I suppose it's because they are taking a deliberate step to create publicity and the inevitable controversy for themselves every time they film a podcast or a video. It's not like they were door stepped for comment or papped without consent (not that either of those things are acceptable of course.) They choose to make public statements and market themselves and their views. For me, it's just at odds with a) continued alignment with the RF by use of the titles and possibly the finances and b) their express wish to remain private people.

Just for info... I've never read Grazia in my life. Nor Cosmpolitan. A feed popped up on my twitter account, I read it and I linked it.
As a discussion point.

And it generated discussion that wasn't full of hate so it worked. That's if anyone bothered to read it doubtful

Agree with Froggy's post above. Many many influential people talk about voting, they don't get this coverage like MM.
The negative obsessives are beyond a joke.

froggygoneacourting · 23/09/2020 22:12

When have they ever expressed a desire to be private and live completely private lives outside of the public eye?

They said they wanted privacy for their baby, I don’t remember them ever saying they wanted it for themselves.

Maireas · 23/09/2020 22:15

They can promote what they like, film themselves on benches, get photographed at charity events, zoom every day. Just don't claim they're hounded for breathing.

Oldbutstillgotit · 23/09/2020 22:17

froggygoneacourting

They can say and for what they like but drop the Sussex titles !

froggygoneacourting · 23/09/2020 22:20

The flip side to that: don’t obsessively monitor their every movement and spend what feels like every waking second posting about them (thereby contributing to the level of interest and encouraging the press to keep covering them), then turn around and claim they’re shoving themselves in your faces.

I very rarely hear anything about Harry or Meghan outside of MN and one other forum. I haven’t seen this video you’re so worked up about and have not read the book, don’t follow them on any social media, don’t read the Mail. If it wasn’t for this forum I would know very little about them and what they’re doing.

If you don’t want to hear about them you could just... not follow them? It’s not hard.

Viviennemary · 23/09/2020 22:21

And don't go on about voting when you belong to the most undemocratic institution in the world. And all your money and privilege comes from that.

derxa · 23/09/2020 22:24

The positioning of Harry as a pitiable disenfranchised UK citizen is laughable. A brilliant sentence

lakeswimmer · 23/09/2020 22:24

If someone chooses to live their life in the public eye they risk being criticised. M&H could live very quietly - not make statements, not release videos etc. The could just get "normal" jobs and shut up. Then no-one would comment.

If you put yourself out there then stamp your feet when the narrative doesn't go your way then people lose respect for you. This is especially true when the stuff you do makes you look like a hypocrite. So Harry releases a video talking about people saying hateful stuff online when his own team of cheerleaders say horrible things about his brother and SIL and he doesn't condemn it. It makes him looks like a twat.

froggygoneacourting · 23/09/2020 22:26

The idea that black women need to “shut up” or they deserve racial and misogynist abuse is disgusting.

Do you also think women who are raped are “asking for it” based on how they dress?

lakeswimmer · 23/09/2020 22:30

Who said black women need to shut up or they deserve abuse?

Ninjava · 23/09/2020 22:33

I think it was an imaginary person.

Oldbutstillgotit · 23/09/2020 22:34

@froggygoneacourting for the umpteenth time , no one is telling her to shut up , she is being told to drop the title .

derxa · 23/09/2020 22:36

Do you also think women who are raped are “asking for it” based on how they dress? Oh froggy

Roussette · 23/09/2020 22:36

I wonder what 'normal jobs' you suggest they do where they wouldn't be hounded and derided for whatever they did?
Answers on a postcard please

Roussette · 23/09/2020 22:37

If they drop the titles, would the hate stop on here and elsewhere?
Seriously asking

froggygoneacourting · 23/09/2020 22:40

Lakeswimmer literally uses the exact phrase “shut up.”

In the context of saying if Meghan doesn’t want “criticism” she could just “shut up.”

Except Meghan has never complained about “criticism.” Abuse is not “criticism.”

Ninjava · 23/09/2020 22:42

The Duchess of Kent, who admittedly is of a very different character compared with MM, has worked as a music teacher in Hull in recent years. Plenty of normal jobs they could do. William was a search and rescue pilot.

HarryDaylight · 23/09/2020 22:43

Anything that doesn't involve them embarrassing the RF. After all, they've no reason to use any Royal titles now that they're no longer working members of the Royal Family. Easy!
QueenofAsgard · 23/09/2020 22:43

I genuinely believe it would.

Well how about teaching like the Duchess of Kent did for many years or the kind of jobs that Beatrice and Eugenie do (management consultancy and art gallery I think)?

Perhaps they could do something which built on their former jobs. I personally think if Meghan was something like a drama teacher or drama therapist and Harry worked for a forces charity or as a helicopter pilot then people would have far more respect for them than they do now. I don't remember anyone deriding William for working as a search and rescue or air ambulance pilot.

froggygoneacourting · 23/09/2020 22:45

Like signing a Netflix deal to produce nature and social justice documentaries and children’s programming, you mean?

Yes, news of that “proper job” went down so well...

Oldbutstillgotit · 23/09/2020 22:45

@ Roussette.

I would hope so and I think a lot of people would stop criticising .
I want them to be happy and successful but it truly pisses me off that they are insisting on using the Sussex titles .
It doesn’t need an Act of Parliament for THEM to give them up , they can advise HM etc that they wish to be totally independent and follow careers of their choosing.

They've only got that gig because of their royal titles so that's a not a proper job based on their personal talents and work ethics. Next!
