I genuinely believe it would.

Genuinely, why?

For months it was “if Meghan stopped being a working royal the hate would stop.”

Then it was “if they stopped using their HRHs.”

Then it was “if they paid back Frogmore.”

Then “if they got a job and earned their own money.”

They’ve done literally every single thing that’s been asked of them, and the haters keep changing the goalposts.

No one really cares about a title, it’s just another thing to beat them over the head with. If they gave it up, I’m very certain we’d have threads breast-beating about how awful Meghan is to snub the Queen and then you’d all find some other reason to attack her.

lakeswimmer · 23/09/2020 22:49

Lakeswimmer literally uses the exact phrase “shut up.”

In the context of saying if Meghan doesn’t want “criticism” she could just “shut up.”

I've never said anything racist or misogynistic about Meghan. I've pointed out that if people live in the public eye then they may get folk disagreeing with them. In fact all the comments I've made this evening have been directed at Harry so stop twisting my words to suit your own agenda.

Roussette · 23/09/2020 22:50

The Duchess of Kent is nearly 90 ! And it was a very different time when she went undercover as a music teacher in Hull.
She suffered terribly with her MH and withdrew somewhat from the RF

Good to hear them giving up their titles would produce less dislike.

Roussette · 23/09/2020 22:53

Yes yes yes to your post of 22.49 froggy

I would love to think that will be nothing else to berate them about but sadly I do not think that would be the case

froggygoneacourting · 23/09/2020 22:54

They've only got that gig because of their royal titles so that's a not a proper job based on their personal talents and work ethics.

See? Already you’re changing the goalposts.

There is literally no job they can get where one couldn’t make the argument it’s potentially based on their backgrounds.

Besides, it’s not true. Meghan has plenty of TV experience and Harry has been involved in making numerous successful TV documentaries. Netflix hired them because whatever pitch they came up with (which would have included detailed information about exactly what programmes they intend to make, and with whom), it made Netflix believe the proposal would be financially rewarding.

It’s also very hypocritical to attack Harry and Meghan for making documentaries when plenty of other royals have done the same with less experience.

Besides William’s Netflix proposal was rejected despite him being the more senior royal/future King. So obviously Netflix aren’t that impressed with royal status.

lakeswimmer · 23/09/2020 22:55

What's the Duchess of Kent's age got to do with it? It doesn't alter the fact that she chose to use her abilities to make a positive impact on the lives of the children she taught. William was working for the air ambulance in the last 10 years.

Ninjava · 23/09/2020 22:56

The Duke of Kent served in the military. The Duke of Gloucester was an architect. MM was given the choice to continue her acting career. I think the Netflix deal wasn’t particularly well received because it didn’t seem to have been achieved through merit - we’ll soon see, if they produce content worth the money it would be great (although the descriptions I’ve seen didn’t sound particularly interesting). Don’t kid yourself about why they got that particular gig though, it’s because of their royal status not proven production talent.

Who says that no one really cares about a title?
If that's the case, they can hand their titles back to the Royal Family and move forward in their life as independent freethinking members of society. But they won't, will they, because without the Sussex titles, they are simply normal citizens, wealthy but not special.
Oldbutstillgotit · 23/09/2020 22:59

William’s Netflix proposal ? What was that ?

froggygoneacourting · 23/09/2020 23:00

Then why did Netflix reject someone with a far, far higher royal status?

I’m going to make the assumption (please correct me if I’m wrong) that I’m the only person in this thread who has actually been through the process of pitching to Netflix. I’m sure Harry and Meghan got the VIP treatment which ordinary creators don’t, but the idea that Netflix just blithely throws millions of dollars purely because someone has a minor title is fantasy. At the very least they would have seen a proper complete pitch document with detailed info about specific proposed programmes, complete with proposed budgets and lists of potential/attached talent.

Ninjava · 23/09/2020 23:00

Is there a source re: Prince William having a deal with Netflix turned down?

froggygoneacourting · 23/09/2020 23:04

William developed a three-part documentary series about mental health which he pitched to Netflix, Amazon, and one other company I’ve forgotten. They all passed on it. Finally he pitched it to the BBC who agreed to commission it but as a one-off episode, not a three-part series. The finished documentary aired on the BBC back in May.

derxa · 23/09/2020 23:05

William’s Netflix proposal ? What was that ? I'm guessing it was a load of old rubbish. Why in God's name would William need or want a Netflix deal?

froggygoneacourting · 23/09/2020 23:06

Of course William’s new documentary about climate change airs on ITV in a few weeks.

But I’m sure he got that because he’s such an experienced documentary-maker and respected environmentalist. Absolutely no other reason.

I'm sure he couldn't give a shit about any of that. Even if it's true

Iknowthingsthatwillhappen · 23/09/2020 23:12

For me, the main point here is that Harry is telling people to vote, whilst he won't be voting himself? Im assuming he can't vote in the US and we know that it would be frowned upon in the UK (although he is allowed to vote and could have done had he really wanted to!)

This has been discussed at length in previous threads, nobody particularly cares that William’s MH documentary was on the BBC rather than Netflix. It got very good reviews though (better than that elephant thing).

lakeswimmer · 23/09/2020 23:19

TBH @froggygoneacourting your earlier comment that I might
think women who are raped are “asking for it” based on how they dress because I pointed out that if you're in the public eye people will critique what you say and do was so offensive that I'm not sure there's any point in continuing to engage with this thread if that's your level of argument.

Clearly no-one is allowed to disagree with you without having vile accusations thrown at them.

froggygoneacourting · 23/09/2020 23:19

It doesn’t matter that “no one cares”, the fact Netflix rejected the MH series proves they aren’t making decisions based solely on royal status, which is the allegation several posters - who clearly have zero knowledge or experience of TV pitching process - have made.

Still waiting to hear why William having documentary production deals with TV companies is perfectly fine and dandy, but Harry doing the same is outrageous.

Harry's doing it for dosh and fame. William's not.
Dairyfine · 23/09/2020 23:24

Harry's doing it cos his Mrs tells him to.

Ninjava · 23/09/2020 23:24

Of course, this is an anonymous forum and people can make up any old shit...

Ninjava · 23/09/2020 23:26

And William wouldn’t be willing to make a documentary about his mother for the 💰(Maybe Harry wouldn’t either.)

MissEliza · 23/09/2020 23:27

@froggygoneacourting how do you know William pitched his documentary to those networks?
