Meghan and Harry's new home in Santa Barbara

Well I've seen the news articles and their new home looks absolutely beautiful and a dream SB pad with the ivy clad walls, pool, tennis court etc. SB has gorgeous homes although very expensive and pretty unaffordable for the humble hoi pilloi. I think Meg has played a blinder. I truly hope their marriage lasts but if not she is in possession of some prime real estate and a neighbor of Oprah. It's also where so many politicians come through fundraising at private events, so if she is politically ambitious she is well situated.

However with 9 bedrooms and 16 bathrooms 😄 I really think they CANNOT lecture the world on cutting back and making do to save the environment in anyway!

I am sure DM readers will explode with jealousy and a collective gnashing of teeth. But they wanted her gone, and she has, to a beautiful ocean facing estate with year round sunshine. Good on yer Megs! Grin

I don't think the house is that special at all, just very average

Have you read FF? Because anyone who has cannot have a good word to say for them.

They must have done a massive paint job on this house

I think this ‘hatred of Meghan because she’s mixed race’ line has been done to death now.
No, most posters don’t hate her. They are disgusted by what has happened within the RF since she came in the scene. Most are disgusted with Harry too. They bring the bad press and commentary on themselves by the way they conduct themselves. The choices they make, the appallingly crass way they treat those close to them, their hypocrisy and the empty mouthing of what Meghan likes to call ‘noise’. The lecturing, superior arrogance that they both display, whilst doing nothing at all useful with their lives. All the while living off money they didn’t earn, on the other side of the world in a mansion bought by PC in all probability.
That’s what you call ‘hate’. No, it’s utter disbelief and annoyance . Many are also very sad and bewildered. Even if you aren’t a Royalist, it’s an utter mess. Have you read FF? Because anyone who has cannot have a good word to say for them

I totally agree with the above. 100%.

Who thinks they live in a “very average house”? Confused

Welcometothelifeboatparty · 18/08/2020 10:02

More deletions of posts and even whole threads. I think MN must have had the threatening call from Santa Barbara...

Can anyone familiar with US real estate or just really rich explain why more bathrooms than bedrooms are desirable?

I am neither but did once live abroad on an expat deal that included a massive apartment with 5 bedrooms and 7 bathrooms. They were allocated:

  • each bedroom had an en suite (5 bathrooms)
  • 1 bathroom was for the maid to use
  • 1 bathroom was totally seperate and was for day visitors etc to use so that they didn't have to walk through a bedrom or into the more private space of the apartment

That doesn't explain 16 bathroms, though! I suppose you might place one or two near the tennis courts/gym/pool so that it was handy.... something like that?

And yet @boltzmannbrains post listing lots of scurrilous rumours about M is allowed to stand ...

Welcometothelifeboatparty · 18/08/2020 11:06

It is inexplicable...

Hardly surprising. Hmm

If they’d stayed, would they now be moving into Highgrove? Or was Highgrove the Cotswolds house that they were offered which they turned down?

It doesn’t seem to be eco friendly to buy yet another property when all these houses are standing about, empty.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 18/08/2020 12:33

The Queen is legally obligated to maintain the listed buildings she owns in a fit state, and she receives state money to do so

This is true, and granted Froggy Cottage was a bit rundown, but isn't it odd that whenever a RF member moves in somewhere the renovations are always said to have been planned anyway?
An ungenerous mind might even think it's a smokescreen to excuse profligate spending and get the taxpayer to foot the bill

LaundryBasket Highgrove is Charles's country pile and he circulates between there, Clarence House and Scotland so it's hardly available ... and if even Camilla can't bear to live there with him I'm not sure H&M would fancy it

SusansSassySidePony · 18/08/2020 12:37

The houses were empty anyway so although it's not environmentally friendly to have massive houses or empty houses, the RF has always had both. iirc Frogmore needed an upgrade regardless of whether H&M moved into it or not, likewise the apartments in Kensington Palace that they didn't move into.

I actually enjoy these threads because they're almost like hide and seek. I check back often to see what things have been said knowing there's a 50% chance most comments will get deleted anyway. Sort of like Snapchat/Insta Stories without a fixed time limit?

MissEliza · 18/08/2020 13:08

@2littleguineas I think that's a fair assessment of H. I do think M deserves a fair amount of criticism for her 'poor me' attitude. Ironically, I think she's the one who'll be able to make money on her own. Perhaps she'll end up doing something like the Tig. She does seem to be good at that kind of thing. H, on the other hand, has nothing to offer which just makes the arrogant way he left the RF even more infuriating because he will always need their financial support.

Grin so true. It's like those memory card games except we don't get to turn the posts back over once MN has covered them up. I struggle to remember my own posts let alone anyone else's Grin

AmICrazyorWhat2 · 18/08/2020 13:16

@MissEliza. I agree, Whatever happens, I think Meghan will be fine in the long run, not so sure about Harry.

I want to live somewhere called “Froggy Cottage,” I like the names. Not fussed about renovations, as long as it’s free.🤣

The renovations on Frogmore Cottage were partly necessary, as it needed to be converted back from 5 separate homes to one bigger home for H & M. They were offered a huge apartment at KP, comparable to that of Kate and William, but turned it down.

It was said that they'd done a big sell to the Queen on how they would love an apartment at Windsor Castle for their home, as it was so important to them. HM didn't allow that, but that was when she offered Frogmore Cottage, which they sort of had to accept, as it was all about 'how much they felt tied to Windsor'.

I am still convinced that Meghan, and possibly both of them, got confused between Frogmore House and Frogmore Cottage.
