Meghan and Harry's new home in Santa Barbara

Well I've seen the news articles and their new home looks absolutely beautiful and a dream SB pad with the ivy clad walls, pool, tennis court etc. SB has gorgeous homes although very expensive and pretty unaffordable for the humble hoi pilloi. I think Meg has played a blinder. I truly hope their marriage lasts but if not she is in possession of some prime real estate and a neighbor of Oprah. It's also where so many politicians come through fundraising at private events, so if she is politically ambitious she is well situated.

However with 9 bedrooms and 16 bathrooms 😄 I really think they CANNOT lecture the world on cutting back and making do to save the environment in anyway!

I am sure DM readers will explode with jealousy and a collective gnashing of teeth. But they wanted her gone, and she has, to a beautiful ocean facing estate with year round sunshine. Good on yer Megs! Grin

I don't think anyone anywhere cares anymore.

Bumlooksbig · 13/08/2020 07:23

If you only have 9 bedrooms why 16 bathrooms? Presumably each bedroom is en-suite plus a couple of downstairs toilets for guests and maybe a separate one for staff but that's still only 12. Hmm

Port1aCastis · 13/08/2020 07:26

Oh god bashing those two is a favourite pastime on here

formyboys · 13/08/2020 07:26

I hope they just enjoy it now without the need to keep telling everyone how awful it was before.

Do you want to be right or happy springs to mind. It's all a bit nauseating. "First house they've ever owned" Hardly a fucking starter home is it. Jesus.

FelicityPike · 13/08/2020 07:29

Yawn. They need to give back Frogmore and pay back the refurb costs.

CrowdedHouseinQuarantine · 13/08/2020 07:34

there are people who care, always, and wish bad luck on Megan

Nope, it is yesterday's news now. No one cares anymore, it is boring and lame in the face of covid etc. The world has moved on.

Choochoose · 13/08/2020 07:59

Good for them, as an aside and a general question rather than directly about them, why do so many huge American house have so many bathrooms?

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 13/08/2020 08:03

You'd need a lot of jiff for cleaning all those bathrooms. Not for me.

PatchworkElmer · 13/08/2020 08:12

Wow, it’s a beautiful house. Well- mansion. I’m also baffled by the number of bathrooms but absolutely wouldn’t say no to living there either. I hope they’re happy there.

CrowdedHouseinQuarantine · 13/08/2020 08:15

why would anyone need 16 bathrooms?
how bizarre in a 9 bedroom house

lifestooshort123 · 13/08/2020 08:40

Santa Barbara is beautiful - they've chosen the location well.

Serenster · 13/08/2020 12:39

The grounds are lovely, and the views from the terrace stunning. I suspect the interior will be completely redecorated though, as it's not very "Soho House" inside.

As an aside, I was astounded to find out how much property tax (like Council tax I think?) is payable in the US. Apparently more than £200,000 a year for a property of that value Shock

Eaumyword · 13/08/2020 12:39

Can anyone familiar with US real estate or just really rich explain why more bathrooms than bedrooms are desirable?
I have a 5 bed 4 bath (including the cloakroom), which might be a typical ratio of the UK, give or take the number of bedrooms etc.
I understand having additional loo's for the gardener etc but why the disproportionate bathroom number? Must be desirable?

User214934514 · 13/08/2020 12:53

En suites are pretty common in the USA so assuming every bedroom has a bathroom (9). There is also a separate 2 bedroom cottage for Doria plus a "kids area" which looks like a big playground in the corner of the aerial map. So those will probably have 3 bathrooms between them (12). Since there's a big pool/wellness/sport area, they will have bathrooms too, probably not part of the main house so you don't have walk too far (13). And since the house is massive there has to be at least 3-4 public bathrooms for visitors to use which easily takes it up to 16.

If there's an indoor cinema or other recreational areas inside the house (bar, gym etc) then those probably have their own bathrooms attached, which also quickly bumps up the number.

Most people have moved on. I almost never hear a word about her outside of MN. The Meghan-haters are still completely obsessed with her. Poor things, not only are they letting Meghan live rent-free in their heads (while she happily frolicking in her enormous beachside mansion, with her loving husband and their baby), they're also giving her constant PR and keeping her in the media and public eye.

The posters fixated on hating her are the reason the Mail runs stories on her every day, because the Mail know they won't just be clicking once and staying on the page briefly the way a casual fan or non-fan might, but staying on the page for a long time, engaging in the comments section, and making repeated visits to the same page to see what other comments have been posted. That kind of behaviour is gold dust for an advertiser-led data mining website. It's the same clickbait model CDAN commercialised: actively weaponizing hate and obsessive fan-dom.

They need to give back Frogmore and pay back the refurb costs.
The Queen is legally obligated to maintain the listed buildings she owns in a fit state, and she receives state money to do so. Frogmore wouldn't need so much expensive structural work if the Queen hadn't neglected it and her other properties so badly. Getting her grandson to agree to be financial responsible for essential maintenance on HER property is a masterstroke of manipulation, I admit. Harry and Meghan paid for all the interior and design work themselves, it was only the essential structural work they didn't pay for but have offered to pay for anyway.

I really think they CANNOT lecture the world on cutting back and making do to save the environment in anyway!
Meghan rarely if ever talks about climate change, and Harry's done some lecturing but not masses. Climate change isn't one of their pet causes, the way it is for Prince "dozen private jet flights in two weeks" Charles. William and Kate have lectured on climate change far more than Harry and Meghan and they travel by private jet far more too (recently took a private jet from Norfolk to Cornwall to go on holiday).

One for pees, one for poos. :)

SunbathingDragon · 13/08/2020 14:47

Beautiful house. Hopefully they will happily stay there and we won’t need to hear anymore about them.

So why is Travelyst, which was launched by Harry, pretending to be focus on (amongst other things) climate change?

I hope they will be happy. They’ve made some mistakes along the way but seem like a nice couple with good intentions and will hopefully use their influence to bring change.

People, especially here on MN, will be very disappointed when they do well Hmm

Quackersandcheese3 · 13/08/2020 15:23

I’ve seen lots of American real estate with more bathrooms than bedrooms. So strange eh? The house is beautiful and I truly wish them all the happinesses in the world.

Fairyliz · 13/08/2020 15:26

@cheezy
I’m sure you are a nice person with good intentions so should the British people fund you to buy a house worth millions? I’m sure you would appreciate that but is it really fair with all the people struggling in this country?
Can you exactly what they have done to deserve this other than to complain how badly they have been treated.

cheezy · 13/08/2020 15:38

I read that they have a mortgage and have paid for it themselves. They can certainly afford to do so, so why the hell shouldn't they splash out on a lovely big house? I know I would.

Habbyhadno · 13/08/2020 15:40

Genuinely don't care about these two anymore. They wanted to go, so they did. Let them get on with their lives, so over hearing about them.
