Meghan and Harry's new home in Santa Barbara

Well I've seen the news articles and their new home looks absolutely beautiful and a dream SB pad with the ivy clad walls, pool, tennis court etc. SB has gorgeous homes although very expensive and pretty unaffordable for the humble hoi pilloi. I think Meg has played a blinder. I truly hope their marriage lasts but if not she is in possession of some prime real estate and a neighbor of Oprah. It's also where so many politicians come through fundraising at private events, so if she is politically ambitious she is well situated.

However with 9 bedrooms and 16 bathrooms 😄 I really think they CANNOT lecture the world on cutting back and making do to save the environment in anyway!

I am sure DM readers will explode with jealousy and a collective gnashing of teeth. But they wanted her gone, and she has, to a beautiful ocean facing estate with year round sunshine. Good on yer Megs! Grin

Looks beautiful. They are paying back £18k a month for the Reno on Frogmore house. Im sure it was mentioned in one of the 15 daily articles about them.

DeRigueurMortis · 14/08/2020 01:23

Lovely house.

I hope they stay there.

[quote boltzmannbrains]I really wouldn’t call this “average”.

Wow!! It’s amazing

HeddaGarbled · 14/08/2020 01:41

I do wonder if this whole fiasco hasn’t been about the house. Frogmore cottage didn’t really cut it, did it?

Kokeshi123 · 14/08/2020 02:30

I have wondered the same thing. Frog Cottage was a bit of a dowdy building for someone with celeb aspirations (though still a large house for pretty much anyone else).

Well lets hope it will put a smile on Harry's face now, he has looked proper miserable of late. After covid, they will be able to invite William, Kate and their children over for a holiday, and rooms and bathrooms for everyone.

Hilarious!

I quite agree with WishingStar. Good for them!

Hey that's quite funny! They need blackout blinds on the eyes.
LiBan · 14/08/2020 07:54

Lucky them!

I can see why Frogmore cottage didnt appeal to Meghan.

I hope they get on with enjoying it now. No more lectures. At some point they will have a moment of lucidity and stop telling the world how to live.

The bathroom thing is a result of more living space in houses there. Houses here are smaller so you are never far from one. Also in the US there is more likely to be an entire level without bedrooms and people will want a bathroom there.

SBLocal · 14/08/2020 08:17

So I'm actually from Santa Barbara (name changed for this!). They live around the corner from my aunt and uncle 😱. To get the privacy that they need (or desire) they will have had to spend that much. In fact, when it was reported they spent a mere $8 million, I did think it would have been somewhat of a conservative choice. You can see most houses in that value range from the road!

MissEliza · 14/08/2020 08:29

Also in the US there is more likely to be an entire level without bedrooms. Did you mean this to read like everyone in America lives in big mansions?

Horehound · 14/08/2020 08:34

I don't really care what size of house they have, I think it's fair enough to live in a huge mansion. They will probably support charities planting forests and stuff, offsetting their environmental damage. So what Joe bloggs sees as them being hypocritical is probably not quite true.

Sorry that was unclear. I was referring to having basements, meaning there is an additional level that won’t have the bathrooms associated with bedrooms. Hence the imbalance in numbers.
Jillyhilly · 14/08/2020 09:20

Probably supporting charities planting forests and stuff is a very good summary of their ridiculous lives.

You don't sound jealous at all..oh no...
Welcometothelifeboatparty · 14/08/2020 17:07

Offsetting environmental damage isn't as good for the environment as not causing it in the first place, though

Redhair23 · 14/08/2020 17:13

The defenders of them are as bonkers as the obsessives.

Redhair23 · 14/08/2020 17:14

I dropped by as I too am interested in bathrooms V bedrooms in the US.

MissEliza · 14/08/2020 20:08

@Welcometothelifeboatparty that's how I see it too.

AmICrazyorWhat2 · 15/08/2020 17:22

I’m not generally bothered how other ppl live their lives or whether they buy mansions or not.
But, I do find it odd that two somewhat preachy ppl who’ve said they’ll only have two children max. because of the environmental impact and ask others to check their privilege have bought this place!

I honestly assumed they were going to live a fairly modest lifestyle given their beliefs....

LirBan · 15/08/2020 17:28

@AmICrazyorWhat2 yeh, i cannot believe they could be blind enough to think living in that mansion is compatible with lecturing people, 🤔🥴 but we will see!
Hopefully they will button it for a while.
