I thought we could have a thread for latest news. MN did say they didn't mind one or two threads. And no rules except stick to MN guidelines. It's Meghans birthday today I just read. And the Queen has wished her a very happy birthday on the royal Instagram page according to that popular Oracle the DM.

Not on hard to believe. Impossible to believe.

Serenster · 11/08/2020 07:12

I agree, KatharineParr4. Although I have to admit if they really didn’t, I am amused by what horrifically self-obsessed people they must be. Imagine having friends who tell you about every aspect of their lives and relationship in such minute detail! You’d be gnawing your own arm off to get away from the broadcast!

YouSayWhat · 11/08/2020 07:15

How old are they? Six?

Bumlooksbig · 11/08/2020 08:02

I would love to have been a fly on the wall when Meghan shared details of her toilet habits with her closest friends. It's not something I would generally bring up in conversation. Bitching about my future sister in law not taking me shopping. Possibly. If I was a real narcissist and didn't like her and bore grudges easily. But hey, "Guess what, we had an en-suite bathroom but I took a loss in the woods just to show him how down to earth and outdoorsy I am.". Great. Where was the security guy? Did she use a Shewee? I bet she has one of those bright pink ones that comes in a box. And who in their right mind, having been told such a thing, would think it appropriate to bring this up in a discussion with a Royal Biographer? Tacky.

Bumlooksbig · 11/08/2020 08:04

Piss not loss. Stupid phone!

EthelMayFergus · 11/08/2020 08:14

Tacky. It really is. It's not so much that she pee'd in the woods, it's that she was so proud of it that she told people (I'm assuming Omid nor Carolyn were there).

FannyCann · 11/08/2020 08:16

Imagine having friends who tell you about every aspect of their lives and relationship in such minute detail!

Imagine listening so attentively that you have perfect recall to pass on to Royal biographers and other snoopers!

YouSayWhat · 11/08/2020 08:18

I can imagine that senior members - well, all of them TBH - are chortling over their cornflakes this morning. The Tindalls must be creasing themselves with laughter. Except for Her Maj, who will be stony-faced. If she summons Harry to Windsor Castle and he refuses to go, what happens then?

peachsquish · 11/08/2020 08:32

Harry really doesn't seem to get the idea, that William will eventually be the person he will need to get funds from if their sparkling new career ideas don't take off.

DorisLessingsLesson · 11/08/2020 08:35

I'm laughing at the thought of HM summoning Harry to Windsor since she's currently in Scotland. It would be like tiara-gate all over again - everyone in a different location Grin

There's a real thread of misogyny and classism running through FF's revelations. The bitching about Kate. The targeting of Angela Kelly. The complaints about the staff, when a lot of H&M's team were women. It's a real disconnect from H&M's espoused values and I'm trying to work out if the book's sources don't share H&M's public values or if it's the book's authors who are sexist snobs.

WinnieTheW0rm · 11/08/2020 08:36

If she summons Harry to Windsor Castle and he refuses to go, what happens then?

Off with his head?

As she's in Balmoral now, I'm not sure sending him to Windsor is going to be worth it. I mean, I know there's a tight bubble round HMQ, but I think social distanceing by several hundred miles is a bit extreme even for a nonagerian!

Viviennemary · 11/08/2020 08:47

So if they didn't have any input into the book can we assume all those intimate details are

Made up
Or
5 friends scenario. They told friends and the friends told the authors. Of course they had absolutely no idea the friends would do this and they didn't have their permission.Hmm
Or
Telepathy/clairvoyance

I think he does. The book takes a lot of pot shots at Kate but apart from calling him a snob I think that generally, by comparison to others, William has gotten off lightly. But it may not be enough. William may be pissed off enough at the criticisms of Kate to cut Harry off anyway. It will be all change at the top if the Queen dies and Harry needs to be careful. I think the Duchy of Cornwall will be run very differently under William's stewardship and Charles will be too busy Kinging to care xxx

DorisLessingsLesson · 11/08/2020 09:10

But what sort of man or husband would William be if he acted as though it was fine for Kate to be criticised because at least they didn't criticise him? It's interesting that the book is silent about the William 'issue' that journalists said was leaked by the Sussex household. I'm wondering if that entire rumour was manufactured to smear W&K. Or if they are holding it back as their bargaining chip.

@KatherineParr4 I'm bemused by you saying there are no woods in Africa. Confused Was it a joke or reference I didn't get? Of course there are woods and forests in Africa.

KatherineParr4 · 11/08/2020 09:15

There’s bush but not forests surely? In Botswana??

DorisLessingsLesson · 11/08/2020 09:19

20% of Botswana is forested.

KatherineParr4 · 11/08/2020 09:21

Actually, I think I may be wrong @DorisLessingsLesson. I thought Botswana was mostly scrub and grassland.

Are we to believe that our Megs traipsed off to the ‘woods’ rather than use the en-suite?

I am not going to read the book, but the whole thing seems to be from M’s perspective. What about Harry’s feelings and insights into things ? Not his amazed wonderment about M , but generally?

MissEliza · 11/08/2020 09:26

Gosh the Guardian article is brutal. I love the fact that don't give Piers Morgan any importance by refusing to name him!

2020meh · 11/08/2020 09:32

The cynic in me (and I've been cynical since MM's engagement interview "performance" despite being thrilled that a POC was marrying into the RF), can imagine only too well how the toilet trip to the woods fact was disclosed.

MM to closest (at the time) friend. "I think I've totally clinched things with H, I took a piss out in the woods to show him how down to earth I am, like roughing it just like him etc etc. He really fell for it !"

BF - "You go girl ! Can't wait for further developments, if it goes all the way can I be bridesmaid/MOH and give that Pippa a run for her money".

Oh yes, many have trodden the same path of trying to impress a fairly new boyfriend/girlfriend and they weren't even actors.

2020meh · 11/08/2020 09:34

I don't think there would have been a great camp toilet option anyway given that they were "camping out under the stars". I'd rather pee in the bush than use a chemical loo.

Madasahattersteaparty1749 · 11/08/2020 09:36

Oh that Guardian article is brutal. I think they have really judged it wrong by putting the blame on Kate. If William, then people would have been more understanding as sibling dynamics are relatable.

MissEliza · 11/08/2020 09:51

I can't fathom accusing the palace of being misogynistic towards M while throwing Kate under a bus. I happened to catch Omid Scobie on Lorraine this morning. What a load of fluffy waffle that was! Andi Peters really let him off the hook in terms of his sources. He said he couldn't name the person who called M a showgirl for legal reasons. To me that means he knew it wouldn't stand up under legal scrutiny if he took libel action.

DorisLessingsLesson · 11/08/2020 09:55

I enjoyed the detail of M having one backpack to go camping. If she did any overseas humanitarian charity trips then she'd be used to travelling light and peeing in bushes Grin The more remote areas, the more likely your luggage will get lost so you always opt for hand luggage only.

StartupRepair · 11/08/2020 10:12

Omid seems to be very driven by his own experience of racism from the courtiers. His experience seems to completely entwined with Meghan's. It is the opposite of an objective biographer stance. 'someone was mean to me so it is true that they were mean to Meghan.'

OVienna · 11/08/2020 10:15

Yes, that was pure class, not naming Piers.
