Daily Mail reports they have privately married at Windsor Castle.

Lovely news if true.

I hope they have a lifetime of love and happiness.

I thought Frogmore cottage was currently empty. Harry and Meghan are meant to be paying rent and will use it as their base when they visit the UK. Anyway I'm looking forward to seeing the wedding pictures. Might be released later tonight so they make tomorrow's papers.

Would be nice but I suspect their holding back was partly to allow Captain Sir Tom to make the front pages of all tomorrow's papers Smile

Well done that couple. It will send a signal to all others who have been denied a big gathering for their wedding, and now it might become quite acceptable to have a small intimate celebration with no explanations needed. Has to be a good thing.

Big gatherings like weddings will not be the same for a good while anyway IMO. I really like the idea of a small private ceremony. It takes so much pressure off, an most decent minded people will understand even if it is in your own family.

Well done them.

Alongcameacat · 17/07/2020 23:00

Beatrice had absolutely no choice in this and all those who said she wanted a private quiet wedding, I am not sure that's true, she had something more grand booked and she probably might've liked something a bit more, but given COVID and her dad, she made totally the right choice

I think you are spot on. She didn’t choose a small wedding originally. I think a deal was probably struck where she got the money that would have been spent on a large wedding. I know it was reported they were funding the wedding themselves but what does that actually mean. The money has to come from somewhere. I’d say a deal was struck because of the controversy surrounding PA. I hope they have a good marriage l remember some negative press about the groom at the start.

A royal wedding, high security, the senior RF all together. It just shows how tightly they can control what the public knows. I’m really impressed with how massive a feat they pulled off.

KatherineParr4 · 17/07/2020 23:02

I’m sure they will have a big bash for all the original guests when this is over, and maybe Ghislaine is living under a new identity somewhere .

saltycat · 17/07/2020 23:06

It doesn't matter whether they had something bigger in mind or not, times are different now, and the signal is out there that it really is OK to have a private intimate ceremony with immediate family and friends up to the limits allowed.

I think it's great and wish them all the best.

BakedCam · 18/07/2020 00:03

@diddl

"If the public ever really understood how much the RF owns, there would be a revolt."

What do you think that the public don't understand about what they own/have access to?

Quite.

All this nonsense about taxpayers funding the RF is a lack of understanding of economics.

HM Treasury pays a Sovereign Grant each year to the RF. These funds are raised through the Crown Estates which has a duty to commercially raise rents although covenants prevent any member of the RF from raising funds against them.

What is astounding is that people appear to be of the mind that they 'own' the RF because they are funded by the taxpayer.

I do wish that economics would be taught on the British curriculum. There would be less of the 'benefit scrounger' theme and less slagging off of the RF.

saltycat · 18/07/2020 00:14

Well why do the people not know about the RF and their lands and castles and houses all over? We are not all Economic experts, we see it and wonder!

Carefully hidden I would suggest. But available if you dig deep.

But hey, let's not take away from the happy couple's big day, and congrats to them. That's the spirit isn't it?

wheresthehope · 18/07/2020 00:16

Love it. Can’t wait to see some pics!

ArriettyJones · 18/07/2020 00:51

Whilst I agree that not every building on every estate might be known about, (although can be discovered quite easily), I would think that a lot of people know that Sandringham & Balmoral are owned by HM, Anmer Hall by William, Buck House & Windsor Castle are not owned by the Monarch, but used by them...

I don’t think, for example, that the man on the Clapham omnibus realises that Sandringham is a huge estate with many buildings and generally closer to being a large village than a house. Ditto Balmoral.

The next potential royal wedding could be Lady Louise or Viscount Severn. The royal family will most definitely be the same then.
I'd doubt either of them will have a big public affair. Edward and Sofie have worked hard to keep them out of the limelight. Kust the same as Peter and Zara Phillips both had small family weddings.

I think we are in for a long wait for the next big public wedding.

BobFleming · 18/07/2020 01:02

I'd like to see more minor royal's wedding conducted like this - without a fuss or massive tax bill like her sister's security tab.

Apart from that, Beatrice really had no choice. She could've postponed because of Covid, but she's never going to escape the negative press from involving her sleazy father.

ArriettyJones · 18/07/2020 01:04

It’s what the royals used to do before the twentieth century. Safer and cheaper, too.

cakeisalwaystheanswer · 18/07/2020 01:21

The Crown Estates belong to the nation and is meant to fund the following:

"Historically, Crown Estate properties were administered by the reigning monarch to help fund the business of governing the country. However, in 1760, George III surrendered control over the Estate's revenues to the Treasury,[5] thus relieving him of the responsibility of paying for the costs of the civil service, defence costs, the national debt, and his own personal debts. In return, he received an annual grant known as the civil list. By tradition, each subsequent monarch agreed to this arrangement upon his or her accession. However, from 1 April 2012, under the terms of the Sovereign Grant Act 2011 (SSG), the Civil List was abolished and the monarch was thenceforth provided with a stable source of revenue indexed to a percentage of the Crown Estate's annual net revenue (currently set at 25%).[16] This was intended to provide a long-term solution and remove the politically sensitive issue of Parliament having to debate the Civil List allowance every ten years. Subsequently, the Sovereign Grant Act allows for all future monarchs to simply extend these provisions for their reigns by Order in Council.[3] The act does not imply any legal change in the nature of the estate's ownership, but is simply a benchmark by which the sovereign grant is set as a grant by Parliament."

When we abolish this farce they won't get a single penny. Bowing and scraping to someone because of who's vagina they came out of is absolutely ridiculous. This nonsense needs to end as does the use of all titles. It is this kind of ingrained privilege that is holding us back.

I wish every happiness to Beatrice on her wedding day but I am fed up with reading about what great value the RF is. They are very expensive parasites.

Most minor Royal weddings are small affairs. Eugene is the only one I can think of who's far down the pecking order to have a big do.
Pixxie7 · 18/07/2020 01:48

Perfect, and good that they have followed the rules everyone else has to follow.

Roussette · 18/07/2020 07:54

This is interesting...

"the Duke of York's eldest daughter has also inherited titles from her husband's side of the family, becoming an Italian 'Contessa' or 'Nobile Donna' (noble woman)."

So Beatrice is now a Contessa too, sounds very grand and romantic Grin

In this article, it says the families have known each other since the 70s... maybe her Mum introduced them?!

And his 4 year old son was his Best Man...

They couldn’t do much else before the C20th. There was a bit of a shortage of technology.

"I don’t think, for example, that the man on the Clapham omnibus realises that Sandringham is a huge estate with many buildings and generally closer to being a large village than a house. Ditto Balmoral."

It's all easy enough to find out though if you're interested.

diddl · 18/07/2020 08:54

I do think though that they are in an odd position of being both minor royals & GC to the Monarch.

KatherineParr4 · 18/07/2020 08:56

I think Sarah Ferguson is the Groom’s Godmother. The families have known each other a long time. The couple are supposed to have got together at Eugenie’s wedding.

viques · 18/07/2020 10:42

@KatherineParr4

Andrew and Fergie are living in a free house, with the use of their own personal chapel and six cottages FREE? He’s on a very cozy wicket. He’s retired from Royal ‘duties’ as a result of his disgusting behaviour, so he can just enjoy riding, shooting, fishing and lazing around. All at the tax payers expense.
Didn't the Queen give them a huge modern (and fairly hideous) house for a wedding present, which they later flogged to one of Andrews sleazy arms dealer friends ? They really are a pair of greedy fat cats.

And to the person wondering when the next royal wedding will be, I would put money on it being Andrew and Sarah, I just hope they have the decency to wait until the Duke of Edinburgh is cold in his coffin before they ring their friends at the celeb mags to do a deal for the photos.

Cleaningismycardio · 18/07/2020 10:53

I felt sorry for Beatrice after having to cancel her original wedding. I hope they had a beautiful day. It was probably the right move given recent events. As an aside does anyone think that Bea has Queen Victoria's eyes? I have always thought this but never heard this said anywhere else.

KatherineParr4 · 18/07/2020 11:45

Hmm.. yes that just about sums it up.
