Daily Mail reports they have privately married at Windsor Castle.

Lovely news if true.

I hope they have a lifetime of love and happiness.

I looked it up. It's owned by the crown estate and leased to Andrew for 75 years. That is the royal lodge, the chapel and six cottages. He was meant to pay rent but doesn't because he spent his own money renovating it. Very complicated.

Call me cynical, but I expect the very complicated way means it has benefitted him. Although the rent wouldn’t be anywhere near a true market price.
ArriettyJones · 17/07/2020 20:12

This isn't one that they own though is it?

Well it’s in the ground of Royal Lodge, which Andrew has on a long but bargain lease, and is itself in the grounds of Windsor Park, access to which is restricted to the public because of the royal residences. Windsor Castle is next door and entirely at HMQ’s disposal and the whole area is littered with grace and favour residences, buildings, amenities.

It’s a pretty nice deal they have there.

ArriettyJones · 17/07/2020 20:12

Windsor Great Park, that should be.

ArriettyJones · 17/07/2020 20:15

Sorry, I lost my own thread there. I’m basically saying ownership is a slippery concept when it comes to royal residences, but if they have unfettered exclusive use of all these houses, acres etc, then they essentially have something very valuable. Lots of very valuable things.

BakedCam · 17/07/2020 20:21

@LadyofTheManners

Sorry but that pisses me off.

I was due to get married this year, a few weeks back and couldn't due to covid rules. I live not far from Windsor and I find it another slap in the face to the rest of us that she is allowed to do what she wants and ignore the rules, have her granny there, full bloody ceremony.
I've got to hope everything is OK for the rest of us plebs next year.
Bet we all paid for it as well in some way as usual.

Why are we meant to like these people? They do nothing, I fail to see what good they do? The Queen could financially sort the current crisis out with the sale of one bloody brooch.
You would think they would keep a low profile with her dad being on the verge of being up for extradition due to questionable behaviour with young girls.

Seriously?

Her wedding was cancelled too. She has had a private ceremony, and you want to drag your cross to bear for her to fall over?

"If the public ever really understood how much the RF owns, there would be a revolt."

What do you think that the public don't understand about what they own/have access to?

Exactly we know perfectly well what the monarchy owns and what the State (us) owns and allows them to use.
Viviennemary · 17/07/2020 20:49

Do we? Who owns the crown estate.

KatherineParr4 · 17/07/2020 20:54

Andrew and Fergie are living in a free house, with the use of their own personal chapel and six cottages FREE? He’s on a very cozy wicket. He’s retired from Royal ‘duties’ as a result of his disgusting behaviour, so he can just enjoy riding, shooting, fishing and lazing around. All at the tax payers expense.

Alsohuman · 17/07/2020 20:55

@Viviennemary

Do we? Who owns the crown estate.
The state, ie the country.

As i said, I don’t think the full scale and extent of their properties is widely appreciated.

The existence of the chapel in which Bea married was the example that we were discussing.

Well I would say HM, although not in the sense that it is hers to sell/do with as she wishes.
DoubleTweenQueen · 17/07/2020 21:01

I think it's lovely. Wishing them, and all couples who have had to cancel their wedding plans but are making the best of it, every happiness 🥂

ballsdeep · 17/07/2020 21:03

Fantastic news ♥️
I wonder if deep down she's resentful towards Andrew. I think that is a huge reason why they wanted a private wedding!

Whilst I agree that not every building on every estate might be known about, (although can be discovered quite easily), I would think that a lot of people know that Sandringham & Balmoral are owned by HM, Anmer Hall by William, Buck House & Windsor Castle are not owned by the Monarch, but used by them...

saltycat · 17/07/2020 21:12

Before anyone lights on me, I am not being sarky here, but is Frogmore Cottage empty now. Wouldn't that make a nice wedding present on a long lease.

I'm not sure what happened to it when you know who legged it to Canada. Just wondered.

As others (including myself earlier) said, Royal Weddings should from now on be private and dignified like this one. Release the pics next day. Easier on the taxpayer and lends an air of mystery and love. I am such a sop.

Best wishes to them. I hope they had a lovely day. Who could not wish them well. They played a blinder.

LesLavandes · 17/07/2020 21:12

Bless her. She seems lovely. I hooe she has a long and happy marriage

Viviennemary · 17/07/2020 21:15

So nobody knows who owns it because it's unclear. It's not supposed to be the personal property of the monarch. But neither does it belong to the state in that if the monarchy was abolished it is doubtful the land would automatically become state owned.

Roussette · 17/07/2020 21:17

Agree. Let's have it all private with a lovely wedding pic. Because the mood of the nation has changed.

Beatrice had absolutely no choice in this and all those who said she wanted a private quiet wedding, I am not sure that's true, she had something more grand booked and she probably might've liked something a bit more, but given COVID and her dad, she made totally the right choice.

In these days and times a royal wedding would be absolutey naff, good on her for taking the right path.

cakeisalwaystheanswer · 17/07/2020 21:19

I am a huge anti-monarchist and happy to guillotine the whole mob on any other day but even I think that we can all show a bit of kindness on a wedding day. This has been a crap year for anyone trying to get married, Beatrice epitomises this so good luck to her and anyone else who manages to tie the knot this year.

Tomorrow, business as usual - enough of this nonsense.

DoubleTweenQueen · 17/07/2020 21:26

@cakeisalwaystheanswer That took guts and a generous spirit! 💐🥂

It’s rented out and, as I understand it, rent is being paid for it and at some point in the future it may (or may not) be used either as a primary or second home.
alliwantisagoodnightssleep · 17/07/2020 21:59

The next potential royal wedding could be Lady Louise or Viscount Severn. The royal family will most definitely be the same then.

Not be the same!!!
