I'm not sure I would go as far as to say that Camilla is regarded now (nationally) as "the best thing since sliced bread," but I actually have always liked her and thought she was a far more interesting person than Diana anyway - certainly a better fit for Charles, anyway.

Milicentbystander72 · 21/06/2020 09:37

Just de-lurking to randomly say that I come from Anglesey and all my family ties are there.

When W&K were there she was often seen in the local Waitrose doing a totally normal grocery shop. I've often wondered if she 'security' discreetly positioned near her?

There was an unsaid rule amoungst locals that you left her well alone. We loved them being there.

Sorry to derail.

I worry for Harry in this now mainly. They have the classic 'holiday romance' dilemma - where to live and who has to relocate. Megan would have felt lonely and overwhelmed in the U.K. without anyone or anything she knows.....now I'm sure Harry feels the same in LA.

I hope they find a way to make it work but I'm not sure the odds are in their favour, and that's just looking at them like an everyday normal couple let alone royals/former royals.

Roussette · 21/06/2020 09:41

That sounds lovely Millicent and great that the locals just let W&K get on with what they were doing.

Samcro · 21/06/2020 09:48

lovely pictures of W and his kids.

parrots · 21/06/2020 09:49

Yes lovely natural pictures, they seem like a very happy family

Roussette · 21/06/2020 09:51

I saw those on the News, weren't they just. Sweet kids. Can't believe how little Louis has grown!

ButteryPuffin · 21/06/2020 09:56

I think it would be great if she did have some kind of political/ advisory/support role. I think she could make a difference if it was handled correctly.

I'm not sure how she would be appropriately experienced or qualified to do any of the above. Her main asset is her public profile - through that, she can draw attention to worthwhile causes, where the actual work and expertise is provided by others. Ironically, that's the Royal Family model.

The other point to make about politics is that it's brutal and the media will give you a very rough time. It's not the arena for someone who has decided they don't want to deal with the level of intrusion and criticism that the Royals can get. Politics will be worse not better!

For the next few years they would be better getting their heads down and working quietly.

Oldbutstillgotit · 21/06/2020 10:35

I think they probably want to "make a difference." Fair enough - but they had a great platform for doing that whilst in the Royal Family. Presumably that had too many other restrictions for them, so they left. But the trouble is, in doing so, they have alienated many, many Brits, so any future message is going to have a barrier to being heard in the spirit intended, for a while, at least. But once the public's "hurt feelings" die down, the danger is that they will be replaced by a complete lack of interest in anything H&M do.

Spot on .

ajandjjmum · 21/06/2020 10:53

Just going back to Camilla, I was one of those people who thought she behaved appallingly (as did PC), and could never envisage supporting her as Queen.

Years have gone by - yes, she is a better fit with Charles, and they seem happy. Also, she's kept quiet, not grouched and done her bit.

Although I would now expect her to be Queen (eventually!), I wonder if to be truly accepted she would need to apologize in public for her part in the breakdown of the Wales' marriage. If she did so, I would have more respect for her - as I would Charles.

Sorry for this on an H & M thread.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 21/06/2020 11:08

I really do hope they do the actual work rather than just pop in to get an Instagram picture

With the possible exception of Anne they'd be unusual RF members if they did

Not sure either why there's so much angst over a silly Mail headline; isn't it obvious that, given the pending legal case, they'll do whatever they can to muddy the waters? For all we know the "source" may be some junior staffer, though in theory it could be a personal friend ... after all, the choices H&M have made won't necessarily encourage loyalty

bluebell34567 · 21/06/2020 11:17

i cant get over the picture of her(MM) other pregnancy. she looked like 6 months.

Samcro · 21/06/2020 11:35

the idea of MM going into politics is ludicrous.

Camilla has done well. she seems nice and I know when she visited dd's school she came across very well.
I don't think its useful to compare the treatment she got to what M has had.
C and C behaved really badly and caused a lot of hurt to a young woman.
M has done nothing wrong, yet has been treated appallingly by the media and even worse on here.

StartupRepair · 21/06/2020 11:42

C and C included a public prayer of contrition in their wedding service.

SunbathingDragon · 21/06/2020 11:50

Arnie went into politics which I also thought was ludicrous many years ago. Although he at least was married into the ultimate American political family at the time.

Samcro · 21/06/2020 11:59

Clint Eastward did too I think?

Puzzledandpissedoff · 21/06/2020 12:04

Arnie went into politics ...

I've not got my reading glasses on and read that as Anne who'd gone into politics!! Shock Grin

Don't do this to me on a Sunday morning ...

Sittingontheveranda · 21/06/2020 12:16

was one of those people who thought she behaved appallingly

One of those? Does anyone think she she didn’t behave appallingly?

Im amazed at what a good PR team has done for Charles.

Wonder no more. She was accompanied by security. There is a photo online showing her putting shopping into her car and there is a big burly security officer beside her.

MoreHippoThanPenguin · 21/06/2020 12:34

Buttery, I do think there are roles which could work for her. How about an advisor/public face of how to be more inclusive of BAME actors or even for the entire entertainment industry? She would know a lot about what issues they face and she would be someone they could look up to. If she did a lot of reading on policies etc, I think that could work.

More successful actors (I am thinking Will Smith, Denzel Washington, Beyoncé, etc before I am jumped on) will not have the time to put into this and and many up and coming actors will be more focused on their own careers as well.

She would have both the high profile and the experience. Is that such a silly thought Confused?

I think it has helped that Camilla has gone about her duties in a quiet way and not sought attention. And no interviews about how hard it has all been. I was very disapproving of her. But she has done nothing in the past few years to be annoying. And she did get bad publicity over cost of security for her own private home and alterations done there. But no foot stamping or flouncing off.

alliwantisagoodnightssleep · 21/06/2020 13:10

Ronald Reagan also went into politics...
