Here's a long version of the story behind the Tig, as told to People magazine.

"“Tignanello is a full-bodied red wine that I tried about seven years ago,” she said to the outlet. “In wine circles, it is nicknamed ‘Tig.’ It was my first moment of getting it — I finally understood what people meant by the body, structure, finish, legs of wine. The TIG is my nickname for me getting it. Not just wine, but everything.”

MissEliza · 02/07/2020 13:18

@SunbathingDragon I recall a criminal conviction being overturned because the witness statements of the police officers were too identical. A psychologist testified there are usually slight differences in individual recollections of events.

Oops, cross posted. If only this site had an edit option...

OVienna

GBP 1bn in tourism revenue. For crying out loud

Quite.
And, obviously, all generated because people were agog to see the wedding of the world-famous Meghan Markle to some randomer (Herbert? Hooray?) that nobody had heard of.

ArriettyJones · 02/07/2020 13:20

@Puzzledandpissedoff

Ah - thanks, Arrietty; you live and learn Smile
There’s always more to learn with this saga. Smile

"Getting it"?? Errr ... okaaayyy Hmm

Rainbunny · 02/07/2020 13:21

If I were the judge in this case I'd be pretty annoyed at the claimant manipulating the lawsuit as a vehicle for shouting out her version of events to the world in a ploy to get sympathy (and get a dig in at the RF). The latest legal filing is full of self-serving emotional language that for the most part is utterly irrelevant to the legal issue at hand. This filing was written purely for public consumption. In the judge's place, I'd be critical of MM's legal team for their bloviated court filings.

I’ve certainly heard before about how you can ask several people for their version of something and all, whilst telling the truth, will say something different because of how we all interpret things and (as you say) our recollections.

Is she trying again to allege dishonesty by the newspaper again and is giving specific examples? I can’t see any other reason for the amount of claims against the Royal Family including Beatrice and Eugenie and revenue generated by wedding etc.

This is not going to end well and if relationships were strained beforehand it is not going to get any better.

This short piece offers a real insight into Meghan's mindset: 'You are enough.'

I get the impression that she simply can't empathise with others, or see herself as others see her. Everything is seen through the prism of her own interests and world view, which is all she needs (You are enough)

User214934514 · 02/07/2020 13:40

My understanding was that it wasn't all 5 friends who mentioned the letter to People magazine? In the article they only paraphrased one person talking about it. She seems to be painting the situation as 5 friends going to the press purely out of concern for her wellbeing, which means she technically didn't "authorise it" but that explains why she's not suing those friends or may still be friends with them.

Following the H&M saga is a welcome distraction from perpetual Covid news, though they really seem to have fucked things up for themselves. Cannot fathom how they can come of this with the same dignity, success and family that they enjoyed before the wedding. She's basically stuck two middle fingers up at the Queen, by insinuating that there was no support from RF, "fleeing" the UK and burning bridges with W&K.

Cluehorn · 02/07/2020 13:40

To be fair I think the “you are enough” comment from the casting director was gentle advice not to overact.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 02/07/2020 13:53

Not to worry, Myimaginarycat, it was good to read the whole piece even if it didn't make sense

derxa · 02/07/2020 13:58

she requested that a 'quill' be featured on her personal coat of arms For some reason that's made me laugh out loud. Is she a modern day Samuel Peyps?

bluebell34567 · 02/07/2020 14:01

the letter was so staged as if written to be read by everyone and say 'oh she tried to contact her father so much'.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 02/07/2020 14:02

Who knows, perhaps he will - after all some of his comments last time were a bit acerbic

What beats the hell out of me, though, is that the legal team must be advising what is and isn't appropriate to include in the case; after all that's their job. However from their previous comment to the effect of "that's how the client wishes to run things", maybe they're just happy to accept the money and publicity, but otherwise no longer really care

OVienna · 02/07/2020 14:02

Have the latest filings appeared anywhere we can look at directly?

Blossom513 · 02/07/2020 14:07

Does anyone know if these latest papers will be released at some point? I've seen previous papers but not sure if that's because there was a first hearing. I would like to read these latest claims in the context of the court case.

Blossom513 · 02/07/2020 14:08

Haha cross post OV!

OVienna · 02/07/2020 14:13

When Harry released the very first statement to the press when they were dating regarding the racism claims, I remember thinking to myself...using some very big words there, Harry. Know what they mean?! Quite a long way from the Nazi costume.

It's not that I think he's being insincere - I don't. I think he is genuinely on board and is rightfully supporting his wife and child.

However, launching into a discussion about endemic racism in Britain is dangerous - for him. The people driving the current conversation are absolutely light years ahead of him in terms of thinking in this area, in particular what needs to/what might happen next, in Britain and the UK. What they hell is he going to say if he's asked outright, should there be reparations? What about the royal family's role? He is out of his depth and living in a country where the issues are similar but not exactly the same whose culture he is just properly getting to know. He should just let Meghan speak, and on behalf of herself.

Cartesiandebt · 02/07/2020 14:13

Perhaps, but she seems to have taken the idea and run with it...

OVienna · 02/07/2020 14:16

I mean that in the US he may be asked about Britain and could easily put a foot wrong.

There is a lot of conflating of US issues with the UK landscape.

According to one of the recent books, the RF's investigations of Meghan revealed more than enough to disqualify her from marrying into the family - but they made an exception because of her race. I'm guessing they regret their decision now.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 02/07/2020 14:26

I was wondering that myself; perhaps, like last time, they'll be released more generally after the hearing?
Not to worry though ... if the reporting of what's in them is in any way inaccurate she can sue the press for that too
