looks suspiciously like you are aiming to get credit for that show of support. I would be more impressed by some actual concrete support for the charities - e.g. a donation But many of the royals have sent thank you letters recently

One example www.google.com/amp/s/www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-8239885/amp/Kate-Middleton-penned-letter-inspirational-staff-childrens-hospital.html

EthelMayFergus · 22/06/2020 14:38

Why do you keep doing that thisenglishlife?

thisenglishlife · 22/06/2020 14:40

Why do people keep demanding that Harry and Meghan do things that others aren't and not do things that others do?

Serenster · 22/06/2020 14:50

They could have released a statement saying that they contacted Prince Charles to wish him a happy father's day, as they did with both Prince Phillip and the Queen's recent birthdays. On this instance, however, they obviously didn't want to.

EthelMayFergus · 22/06/2020 14:52

Nobody has demanded anything, pp said that it wasn't as effective as other methods and it isn't. They didn't say 'I have a problem with this method when Meghan does it, but I love it when C does it'. Or that Catherine never does it, no one mentioned her apart from you. Why? There's a thread about her if you want to keep talking about her.

It's like when you tell your child off for something and they point at their brother and say 'But, but, he did it last week'.

Good analogy

if they had released a photo, they would have been accused of trying to steal William's thunder. they really can't win.

Have you seen the awful comments underneath. Just goes to prove criticism isn’t just for Harry and Meghan ........

ARoseInHarlem · 22/06/2020 15:06

It was Father’s Day here in the US yesterday too.

The letter was probably sent by email, hard copy to follow (hence why unsigned).

Correspondence from the RF is an art in how to say next to nothing and letting the Royal insignia do the talking. This is no different, although with this couple the insistence on using a logo/symbol that so much as hints at royalty is ludicrously petty, coming from a couple living in splendor in Los Angeles after flouncing off out of the RF so publicly and bitterly. It only serves to bring to mind the “HMQ doesn’t own the word ‘Royal’, you know, and Harry remains 6th - SIXTH - in line to the Crown”.

That said, it looks like the meals that were delivered were prepared by The Hub, the effort MM got involved in and, IMO, did an excellent job with (as she did with Smartworks). I’m sure she is rightly proud of the workers and the contribution they made, and if she felt a letter from them would be well received, good for them sending it. (Still don’t see why it was made public, but oh well). Not being serving members of the RF I’m unclear what standing Harry and Meghan have to speak so authoritatively on behalf of people in the UK (and indeed the world over) about the impact of Covid-19 on people’s lives, but there you go.

Cartesiandebt · 22/06/2020 15:07

I know they do seem to have form for seeming to steal RF thunder (releasing their exit statement on Kate's birthday was a case in point) but no-one has a monopoly on father's day...

ARoseInHarlem · 22/06/2020 15:17

Also, I read somewhere that Oprah is lining up a panel to have a group discussion - which she will host - on the BLM movement and the protests and marches that have taken places worldwide since the murder of George Floyd. I read a report that she was considering including MM in that panel, but was unsure whether to have her on would detract from the seriousness of the conversation, given it would be her first TV appearance and the attraction that would garner. Since then, there’s been the JM spat too.

I would imagine the “meetings” H&M have been having, if true, were a precursor/ research for that appearance (if it happens).

As for Harry getting involved - he’s been married to a biracial woman for two seconds. He’s a Prince of the British Royal Family. There’s literally NOTHING he can say at this stage, of substance more than platitudes, that isn’t going to sound hypocritical and knee-jerk in the extreme. Unless it’s to talk about his experiences dating and being married to a biracial woman. And, like the speech to the JP Morgan talking about his mental health challenges following the death of his mother, this will have its limitations. He really would be better off just staying out of it completely. There can’t be fewer worse qualified people to talk on this than him, unless he’s about to repent for the historic sins of the BRF, which he won’t be allowed to do.

ButteryPuffin · 22/06/2020 15:20

Nobody's demanding anything. I shared my view, which is what the thread is for. I don't think
Kate's letter is newsworthy either (and it's not like there's a general news shortage these days). Sending nice letters is surely standard operating procedure for people in their position. It's not an end in itself.

Roussette · 22/06/2020 15:29

Does anyone else find it surprising that Meghan and Harry didn't release a picture or something for father's day?

Blimey if I was them I wouldn't have done either. Look at the horrible stuff that got written about with MM and little Archie in the video for charity. 'He's in a vest, how awful, what's he going to think in years to come.'
'His nappy is full, dreadful.' 'She won't let him turn the pages properly'
And on and on...

Would that make you want to release a picture? It wouldnt me.

I've said before... what do some people want? If they're quiet that's wrong. If they do anything public, that's wrong. They can't win whatever they do.

Cartesiandebt · 22/06/2020 15:39

I didn't say they were wrong, just that it was surprising.

In general terms, I was very surprised by how closely they've guarded Archie's privacy. The pregnancy was very high profile, with the celebrity baby shower etc, so I was rather expecting them to keep Archie in the public eye.

It's good that he is being protected from scrutiny.

Roussette · 22/06/2020 15:47

Yes it is good.

calmcoolandcollected · 22/06/2020 15:52

The effusive response from the fans on Twitter to what is essentially a rather boring and polite thank you letter is... interesting

That's usually tied to a PR firm.

Cartesiandebt · 22/06/2020 15:58

So do you mean the responses are from bot accounts?

Samcro · 22/06/2020 16:03

it was Williams birthday too. they don't do it and they get moaned about, they do it they get ripped apart.
calmcoolandcollected · 22/06/2020 16:25

So do you mean the responses are from bot accounts?

It can be bots, or people paid to generate certain response types.

American PR firms, particularly those dealing with celebrities, monitor all social media for mentions of their clients. In forums, for example, they will have a person register to counter any negative story or view.

alliwantisagoodnightssleep · 22/06/2020 16:32

I remember reading that Selena Gomez had a lot of bot accounts. This was the reason that at once stage she was the most followed account on social media.

Serenster · 22/06/2020 16:45

It was also the basis of an article by a US writer a while ago - that the Cambridge instagram account had more followers than the Sussex one because the Cambridges paid for bots.

calmcoolandcollected · 22/06/2020 17:10

@Serenster, Not quite -

It's behind a paywall, I think I'm rather glad about that...
