thisenglishlife, so Meghan did 67% of Catherine's engagements last year but charged £500k for clothes while C charged £67k. That's not a good look.

Roussette · 11/06/2020 20:48

Ethel it depends where you read, I suppose

www.express.co.uk/life-style/style/1179869/kate-middleton-meghan-markle-latest-news-clothes-cost-wardrobe-style

According to this piece, not what you say.

thisenglishlife · 11/06/2020 20:54

They guess Kate's clothes costs, as they are often bespoke.
They included the cost of items that Meghan owned pre marriage and estimate or make jewellery costs or speculate on which jewellery piece it is and use the price of what item they think it is.

The papers have no idea what Kate or Meghan personally paid or which items Kate or Meghan might have received as gifts or borrowed.

CallmeAngelina · 11/06/2020 20:55

when they KNEW damn well they were buggering off and not intending for one moment to live there
"We don't know this. Frogmore Cottage was a wedding present, work was carried out They moved to Frogmore in April 2019 and said they were leaving in January 2020."

So naive. Yes, we DO know this. It's in their upcoming biography, "Finding Freedom," written with their collaboration blessing by their fan Omid Scobie. They planned their exit before they even married.

thisenglishlife · 11/06/2020 20:57

On twitter Omid has said: Any "insider" claiming to know what's in the book is simply throwing guesses out there.

There has only been speculation about the book.

Roussette · 11/06/2020 20:59

I was going to say, I didn't think the book was out

ButteryPuffin · 11/06/2020 21:02

The book isn't out yet, but I will be getting it and it will be interesting to see how they present themselves. I am working on the assumption that Scobie and Durant will write the 'approved' story that the Sussexes want to make public. I'll do a thread about that when it's released for those who aren't going to buy it but would like to discuss it. It will also be interesting to compare the whole book to the digested version of it that will inevitably appear in the media. I am Sussex-sceptical but will aim to give a fair summary of the book.

ButteryPuffin · 11/06/2020 21:04

Lady Colin Campbell's book is out in two weeks. I'll be getting that too and will also post about it. Expecting that to be a very different take! I haven't read anything else of hers.

Roussette · 11/06/2020 21:04

Thanks Buttery, it will be good to hear about it when released and non speculatively.
Smile

Kate has a wardrobe, built up from years of public appearances. MM did not.

ButteryPuffin · 11/06/2020 21:06

Release is 11 August for Finding Freedom. So a bit of time to wait yet. I am planning my summer reading Smile

Roussette · 11/06/2020 21:07

I am no fan of Lady Colin Campbell. She doesn't come across as a particularly nice person. The book will be just a money spinner for her.

thisenglishlife · 11/06/2020 21:12

She has over 1000 outfits and lots of the same shoe - different colour and same colour but different heights (eg. The Rossi in the same shade and all three heights) and same colour and same type (more than one pair of a favourite).

Wolfgirrl · 11/06/2020 21:17

@Roussette no I didnt say that, what bizarre paraphrasing Hmm

Wolfgirrl · 11/06/2020 21:19

I'm not a fan of any of the royals, ex royals or otherwise.

They're the epitome of privilege, they do very little in return for undeserved splendour, and they treat the public with sheer contempt.

What is your point?

Roussette · 11/06/2020 21:26

I;m confused. The public purse is for the whole of the RF. You said they'd drained it and done a bunk.

But let's not split hairs. On threads like this, misunderstandings can happen, so I am thinking you mean they drained their share of it.

Apologies if I did indeed misunderstand.

ChaosAllAround · 11/06/2020 21:50

“2019:
Meghan – who pregnant and then on maternity leave for much of the year – attended 83.

2018:
Kate Middleton (pregnant until April) attended 64 engagements in the U.K. and 23 overseas”

Kate would also have been on maternity leave in 2018.

thisenglishlife · 11/06/2020 22:23

The website omitted it
Update 2018
Kate Middleton (pregnant until April and maternity leave) attended 64 engagements in the U.K. and 23 overseas
Meanwhile, pregnant Meghan Markle, who only officially became a royal in mid-May, had 45 engagements in the U.K. and 51 overseas.

MissEliza · 12/06/2020 00:51

I think Kate has developed a working wardrobe- not exciting but fit for purpose. I'd be interested to know how much Princess Diana spent yearly on her wardrobe. I don't recall too much 'recycling' going on, but I think because she was using British designers, she was admired for it. I went to the exhibition of her clothes in Kensington Palace and as a child of the 80s, it was quite striking how memorable her outfits were. I guess that's why the public overlooked the cost as I don't ever remember it being an issue.

LightWaterandTime · 12/06/2020 03:07

I see the Jessica Mulroney thing is really blowing up now, she has been fired from her TV show.

The most problematic part of it to me is that she makes a very public apology on both her instagram account and also on the instagram account of Sasha Exeter and them almost simultaneously sends a private message to Sasha threatening a libel case.

Makes a complete mockery of the apology and shows her character. I think she will struggle to come back from that.

ARoseInHarlem · 12/06/2020 04:55

She’s also dragged MM into it. There will be some who would see it as pulling the rug out from under that videoed commencement speech (how can MM be best friends with someone with such a poor grasp of race issues and/or such duplicitous and vindictive race-based behaviour, and yet retain credibility in a heartfelt speech about BLM). I wonder how these things work, in reality. Would Mulroney have sought MM’s permission for that bit of the statement (MM a loyal friend who will back her up)? Is MM an unwitting bystander in this (in her shoes I’d find my friend’s actions despicable)?

What a mess. Nothing good comes out of saying more than absolutely necessary when you’re in the public eye. Nothing!

BarleylemonPenguin · 12/06/2020 07:54

This is why the RF unofficial motto is “Never complain, never explain”. Not only can they not be seen to be partisan but are also clearly aware of what may happen to them via ‘the media’ when they do say something. If I remember correctly, this is the issue that precipitated Diana’s downfall.

FruitPastillesaregood · 12/06/2020 09:14

I think it’s an old adage but I seem to remember a saying about being able to judge someone by the friends they choose...
