Kayaking - I think they are right to sue, there were some nasty, hurtful things written in that article, especially saying that William is obsessed with Carole and that she is the mother he always wanted. Both Harry and William have said they think about their mother every day so that lie must have made him particularly hurtful.

SunbathingDragon · 31/05/2020 20:17

It would be classier to just issue the rebuttal, move on and rise above it.

I wonder whether it was because Tatler came back and counter argued their rebuttal that they decided to take the matter further.

Sittingontheveranda · 31/05/2020 20:21

It didn’t take them long to turn on Kate. The palace should have stamped it out with Meghan and with Kate too. It is wrong to let pathetic people continually criticise these women they don’t know.

Winterlife · 31/05/2020 21:49

@Wolfgirrl, did Kate complain?

Wolfgirrl · 31/05/2020 21:57

Well shes suing them isnt she Winter? I would say that is probably the highest form of complaining there is!

Winterlife · 31/05/2020 22:06

Is she? No claim has been filed, and even if it is, we don’t know if Kate instigated the lawsuit. I’ve said the same about Meghan. I have always believed Harry instigated her lawsuit.

SunbathingDragon · 31/05/2020 22:26

W&K have sued before, when topless pictures were taken in France and published.

I think both William and Harry have a hatred of the press although on the outside, William seems to deal with it better. Certainly both are protective of their wives.

Undercoverdetective · 31/05/2020 22:33

Just a quick de-lurk to wonder if Prince Andrew will sue the papers if everyone else in the family is going to.

Winterlife · 31/05/2020 22:54

@SunbathingDragon, yes, but I understand why they sued in that case. Some photographer took photos from 1 km away, into a private garden where W&K expected privacy. I think had they not sued then, they would have been subjected to more intrusive photos.

I think there's a difference between photos and stories.

SunbathingDragon · 31/05/2020 23:29

As I understand it, it wasn’t just the normal expectation of privacy but France has (or had) far stricter laws that the photographer himself was in breach of.

I wonder if Fergie ever sued over the topless toe sucking pictures that were printed of her. I remember that being a scandal at the time.

Winterlife · 01/06/2020 01:10

Yes, the photographer and the French based magazine that published the photos were also fined.

ButteryPuffin · 01/06/2020 08:31

We're back to the freedom of the press. How do you think the palace should have 'stamped it out'? Should the palace get final say on all stories? Because in that scenario they would have blocked all the Prince Andrew articles for starters.

Kate and William are currently taking one of the other courses of action open to them. For whoever asked if the 'Kate never complains' posters Hmm approved of it, I'm surprised, but I assume they feel particularly strongly this time, and as I posted earlier, their case seems to be more specific than the Sussexes' case against the Mail on Sunday.

CanIHaveAPenguinPlease · 01/06/2020 08:49

Winter That’s sounds horrific.

I don’t think suing is the right course of action tbh. But that’s my imo.

And no the palace should not have stamped on any negative press. What a way to curtail our freedoms by doing so.

TimeLady · 01/06/2020 09:43

An article in Tatler can't be disregarded as 'just the tabloids printing garbage'. Details in it are being quoted elsewhere such as the Daily Telegraph and so the untruths become 'facts'.

FruitPastillesaregood · 01/06/2020 10:25

Winter
Awful to hear that story.

I think that article was spiteful. I’m surprised they are suing but it’s obviously really upset them. I really don’t understand why Tatler of all magazines would print something like that. It’s on the face of it complimentary, but full of snide digs.

BarleylemonPenguin · 01/06/2020 11:22

Is it because, given what is currently going on in the world, they've all been less than useless? No leadership, no succour, no guidance, no help, no value for money, no nothing...Isn't the whole point of their role to be wheeled out to offer all these things at times like the present?

mateysmum · 01/06/2020 11:36

As far as I understand it - and I'm not a lawyer, W&K are not actually suing Tatler. They are putting in a legal complaint to get the article withdrawn from the website. I think that's quite different from H&M's action and is very specific.

I think the main thing that has stung is the insinuation that Catherine is workshy and angry at having to take on more. That is a "professional" as well as a personal insult.

catinb0oots · 01/06/2020 11:42

Just read it and I imagine that the nasty digs at her mum and sister have pissed them off. It's one thing being attacked for your position in the public eye but it's pretty shit when your family are hauled over the coals as well. Especially as they've really been nothing but discrete from day 1.

Greyscreendream · 01/06/2020 14:16

Surprise surprise - sounds like trouble in paradise! www.newidea.com.au/meghan-and-harry-explosive-fight-claim

KayakingOnDown · 01/06/2020 15:22

Oh, really? That's a bit different then.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 01/06/2020 15:23

Give me a break, Greyscreendream - that's the online version of one of the worst check-out rags, though it does show that some US media are no "kinder" to them than the UK version were

KayakingOnDown · 01/06/2020 15:38

Ouch! The Forbes piece is brutal about Harry.

Will he sue? Oh, wait he can't - 1) defamation laws are far less rigorous in the US where the press has more freedom and 2) everything it says is true

IloveParmaViolets · 01/06/2020 16:15

Just out of curiosity, how does a photographer take a photo from 1km away. I know they have zoom lenses but don't they need to see the subject to focus the lense on. I'm a bit dim about these things so can someone more knowledgeable please enlighten me. Thanks

caperberries · 01/06/2020 16:36

Actually it's a trashy Australian mag of the sort sold at supermarket checkoits, not a US one.

That said, the content sounds rather plausible!
