A continuation for those who would like to look at the positive side of Harry and Meghan.

I also think the William cheating rumours are true. Not sure why I have to pick a side. They're all dicks basically.

Roussette · 15/05/2020 09:10

Never said he was a saint.

ArriettyJones · 15/05/2020 09:18

I really don’t think you can keep dismissing Harry’s repeated use of racially offensive epithets as “mistakes” @Rousette

Have you ever called colleagues those words?

It is bizarre that so many people are inclined to give home a free pass. More so than P Philip’s historical racist clangers.

It’s part of what’s so interesting; These emotional, irrational reactions. Sensible, middle aged women, with professional jobs or responsibilities, talking with a straight face about the whole nation feels maternal and indulgent towards Harry because of his early bereavement. Bigotry being excused. Hypocrisy being excused.

Which was one thing (privileged, posh spare to the heir being consistently spoilt and offensive). But then - big plot twist - the bigoted party boy falls for an Uber- woke woman of mixed ethnicity. It was always going to get interesting 🤷🏽‍♀️

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 15/05/2020 09:19

I've been on your threads in the past. I've tried to discuss. The result of that was a poster endlessly telling everyone again and again an again to Scroll on By.

I have to correct this, Roussette, because the OP made a similar claim.

Nobody on the other threads minds an opposing view, and we are happy to debate it calmly and politely. You and I have had such exchanges.

But that was not what happened. You (occasionally) and others (more often) were quite abusive to posters, telling them they were nasty people, "haters" that they should be ashamed of themselves, and that they were posting lies.

It was very unpleasant and posters were told to ignore and scroll, including by MNHQ.

Please do come and share your perspective if you want to, it's a free country, and people will happily listen if you don't tell them off.

GoFiguire · 15/05/2020 09:21

I like cheese

Roussette · 15/05/2020 09:22

Whatever I say in response will be jumped on. Do I think H is a complete dick for ever referring to anyone in derogatory terms? Yes
Do I wonder why it was never talked about on MN until he married MM? Yes.

Or should that be No....

ArriettyJones · 15/05/2020 09:24
  • Whatever I say in response will be jumped on. Do I think H is a complete dick for ever referring to anyone in derogatory terms? Yes Do I wonder why it was never talked about on MN until he married MM? Yes.*

Well that sounds much more reasonable a position than the “youthful mistake” mantra. I’m certainly not going to jump on you for that.

I still don’t quite agree, but we don’t have to.

FWIW, I think he has the same mixture of very positive qualities and poor judgement that his mother often exhibited.

Roussette · 15/05/2020 09:26

I was never ever abusive to any poster. I've been on MN since it almost began and have never had a post removed by MN. Disputing what people said on that thread is not abuse. After all I'm a fangirl and Pollyanna on here!

It must depend on what you call abuse. For me, it is a word that is bandied about and shouldn't be and I am shocked at you saying that I was abusive on past threads. I really don't want to sound all precious on this point but I do object to that, sorry.

Roussette · 15/05/2020 09:27

Totally agree on that. His mother was a flawed character and I think to some extent, he is too.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 15/05/2020 09:40

I take back "abusive" Roussette, I meant it in the general sense, if it upsets you that wasn't my intention and I'm sorry. But you do know what I mean.

Samcro · 15/05/2020 09:47

critical thinking allowed” threads
is that a new term for online bullying?
IMO some people do not like the idea that people can see H&M as real people. not perfect, but not deserving of the "critical thinking" that is being aimed at them.
I know I would rather be seen as a pollyanna than the alternative.

its sad that people want to get this thread shut down.

ArriettyJones · 15/05/2020 09:58

@Samcro you sound so unreasonable now, I just don’t know where to start. You sound more entrenched with each post.

If you could shake the idea that there MUST be polarised threads for polarised opinions, (and stop talking to us all as if we’re all collectively guilty of everything that every poster on a dozen threads has said, whether we were in them or not) you might regain some credibility.

MoreHippoThanPenguin · 15/05/2020 10:31

I think these threads are an excellent example of confirmation bias... when you have an opinion, you tend to look for evidence supporting that. It is a quite well, documented psychological phenomena.

I usually stay off this thread as I in the past has been more on the other (it seems a bit over the top at the moment), but can I say that M looks absolutely amazing at the moment? Her skin is just flawless!!

And Archie is just the chubbiest, loveliest, happiest little baby. You just wanted to reach into that video to cuddle him Smile.

Samcro · 15/05/2020 10:36

@ArriettyJones i am not biting. insult away.

yes Hippo he is at that lovely age imo

ArriettyJones · 15/05/2020 10:38

@ArriettyJones i am not biting. insult away.

It’s really not meant as insult. I’m quite taken aback by your recent posting. I’m really not trying to provoke more of it (“biting”).

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 15/05/2020 10:45

Archie does look very well loved and well fed!

Roussette · 15/05/2020 11:05

Archie looks just great. Happy, chubby and wriggly. I bet Harry is absolutely loving this.
My nephew and his wife have a baby similar age after so much heartache with late miscarriages etc and oh my goodness, the videos they post are just so lovely.

What a shame we'll all be missing out on cuddles with extended family's babies for some time to come.

mrscampbellblackagain · 15/05/2020 11:25

The private jets thing is funny. To be honest if someone said to me - hey fancy a go in my jet I would bit their hand off. I suspect a lot of people would.

I think the thing that annoys people is when celebs/royals lecture and then do the exact opposite of what they want everyone else to do. It is why Bono is so ridiculed and now Harry. Of course all the RF use private jets and are obscenely rich they are just a little bit better at hiding it.

Samcro · 15/05/2020 11:38

@mrscampbellblackagain I agree.
have to say I did think the staged stuff W did with the commercial flight stuff was a bit hmm.

I bet they all wish they still had the royal yaucht.

mrscampbellblackagain · 15/05/2020 11:40

I don't think William could win in that instance to be honest and apparently they do travel a fair bit on low cost airlines - well now they do Wink

But was yet another opportunity for the media to pit the sussexes and cambridges against each other.

MrsJoshNavidi · 15/05/2020 11:47

mrscambellblack do you have a DH whose name starts with L by any chance?

mrscampbellblackagain · 15/05/2020 15:50

No I don't

Mummy195 · 15/05/2020 18:05

Goodness me Cerseirys I read that whole story, and I should not be shocked, but my jaw was dropping at every sentence. She wrote with such clarity though.

I also noticed how many ppl had a similar experience on the comments. The DF has sunk lower and lower over the years too.

Roussette I think it gets to a point where you cannot even wipe your behind with the DF incase you catch something.

Nowadays, I consider the DF so desperate that the only thing true in it is the date - though even that you have to double check. Grin

I love the youtube video that went viral years ago.

I remember the Nazi uniform story. H profusely apologised for his bad taste in what he thought was a joke. I am not making excuses for him, but everyone has to grow up sooner or later. The whole party seemed like in bad taste for rich aristos to be involved in, period. Native and Colonial? Really? It was reported that there were lots of blacked up faces. But H was the most famous, so we only heard about him. I remember reading the story from some publications where they sent a reporter to the costume shop where W had gone with a friend looking for a Zulu costume, it was not available, but he went for leopard skins akin to what the Zulu warriors wear. This was reported as him being a leopard (not sure if that is actually what he was portraying since it was a natives and colonist kind of party, not wildlife theme tbh to me it sounds like he was blackface of a Zulu warrior). Bad taste all round, but H had to take the grunt of the criticism as he always has.

When H was in the army my understanding was that everyone had a non-pc nickname. H himself had a derogatory name for ppl with red hair. It was my understanding that if there was a black person there they would have been called a ng , if someone was dyslexic, a rt *d, if they lost a limb a crp etc. All of them abhorrent, but maybe they should not have shared this info with the world. I remember seeing the friend called a pk * laughing it off. I don't recall him complaining because I thought everyone had an offensive name assigned to them.

H was around 20, yes an adult when these incidents happened. But I think he has learned go grow up now. What would be a major problem is for him to have remained the same. I think when Justin Tr made his apology about blacked face, a lot of ppl understood because since then his actions have shown he is grown from that backwards thinking. I don't think these ppl should still be hung down from their past missteps when they seem to be working hard to prove they are working hard to change.

My suspicions are that H as spent a lot of time with the likes of close friend Prince Seeiso, who may have taught him a different approach to what he is used to.
