A continuation for those who would like to look at the positive side of Harry and Meghan.

I think it sounds like a brilliant concept. One of my DDs is a real eco warrior (she's at home at the moment, and checking my bins in case I have missed one tiny little piece of paper that could be recycled Grin).
She would absolutely buy into this sort of thing big time.

Mummy195 · 12/07/2020 19:06

True to all the latest posters @Roussette, @thisenglishlife@Blossom513

The private jets became more of an issue in the last year after the H&M thing. rich ppl have been showing off their private jet travels for ages. It's been the thing, when showing off pics of your wealth.

It seems that a sustainable way was attempted with carbon offset - till it suddenly became unacceptable. I recall Piers M showing off pics of himself on a private jet as well as his son, when asked about his diatribe against H&M, he responded that he did not preach. So I guess that was ok then.......................

I have no problem with individual cases being looked at with regards to security etc. and why ppl have to fly private. While everyone loves HMQ, we still have to take into consideration that the isis types will not. In general I think there are cases of ppl who will obviously need more protection due to their prominence and that includes PC, K&W with their family. After we publicly knew about the threats towards H&M, I was just surprised that ppl thought they should put their lives in danger that is all.

Blossom513 · 12/07/2020 19:28

If you google leonardo dicaprio and private jet there are numerous press articles on the first page of results from Apr 2015, May, July, Sept 2016 about his hypocritical private jet use when he was advocating for environmental causes. H&M might have been the first time you noticed it but it doesn't mean people picked on them first unfairly. I don't follow Leo so no idea whether he is still continuing with his hypocritical approach since google camp last year.

calmcoolandcollected · 12/07/2020 23:06

Up to today, most of the ppl that were on that camp were never discussed as much as H & M (though I'm not sure she was there actually, I could be wrong, but she is named quite prominently when it comes to reporting this google summit).

Wrong. Every year, the hypocrites who take private jets to preach to the world about climate change have been criticized. Leonardo DiCaprio has been criticized for years for this, long before MM even met Harry. He's also been criticized for his selective knowledge of environmental issues (such as claiming the warm Calgary winter he experiences was the result of climate change - WRONG - it was the result of chinooks, which have been occurring for as long as weather records have been kept). Al Gore has been criticized since 2007 for building a completely unsustainable home while preaching to others about the environment. Even Greta Thunberg was criticized because while she took a boat across the ocean to North America, the four man crew on that boat took not very carbon friendly flights back to Europe.

calmcoolandcollected · 12/07/2020 23:13

My pointing out the secrecy of the event, was that it was and still is widely reported that H was talking to us (US, the public). Telling us to do one thing while he does another.

Wrong again. It's pretty clear from reports of the event that what was discussed was secret, although Harry apparently gave a "passionate speech about the environment. He was speaking to conference attendees, not the public. It's still hypocritical, though.

Life is not fair, and never has been. Of course we can strive for it, but it's never going to occur, it's against human nature.

do we dismiss anything that anyone saysor does if they're very rich/use air travel prolifically/are in a privileged position.

It's not the privilege that matters, it's the "do as I say, not as I do". If Harry can't live according to his own beliefs, why should I take anything he says seriously?

On that link for Charles. Two recent articles

Seven in the first two pages that were within the last two years. You stated he isn't taken to task for his words versus his actions. He is. Harry has given a number of speeches in the past two years on the environment, all while swanning around in private jets and now, in Los Angeles, in a gas guzzling Cadillac SUV.

Roussette · 13/07/2020 08:29

Don't take any notice of Harry if you don't want to. No one is forcing you to. His father is no different with his talk of environmental issues. Take no notice of him either.

Incidentally does Charles 'swan around' too, or is it just Harry that does that. Good old Daily Mail on the Cadillac, they never fail to feed their reader base. (No idea if it came from the DM but my guess is, it did)

I'll continue to strive for fairness in my everyday life, glad you agree we can strive for it.

calmcoolandcollected · 13/07/2020 08:43

No, I am not British and don't read the Daily Mail every day. Most of its content is humorous to me, rather than to be taken seriously. I like their crime articles, because so many of them are a bit crazy.

I didn't see an article about Harry, I saw a photo of him getting into a Cadillac SUV. He could easily be driving in a hybrid luxury SUV.

You know what? I can choose who I want to listen to, and who I get to criticize. As I posted above, I am not obligated, just because you deem it necessary, to go down a list of every person, or even every royal, and decide that I must criticize them all equally.

calmcoolandcollected · 13/07/2020 08:44

I'll continue to strive for fairness in my everyday life, glad you agree we can strive for it.

From your posts on the other thread, I don't think you are striving for fairness.

Roussette · 13/07/2020 10:43

Whatever you say calm. I'm not rising to the bait. If you think that I'm not fair, that's your prerogative to think that. I am comfortable with my fairness.

Of course, you can choose who you listen to, who you criticise, what you read, what you disagree with, what you agree with, I am not 'deeming' you don't do anything or do anything, I've not gone down any list! It's a free country thank goodness, you do what you like. So will I.

Hope you have a nice day. I've just been for the most lovely 3 mile walk, saw all sorts of wildlife. Fantastic.

calmcoolandcollected · 13/07/2020 21:38

There is no bait. You made a statement. I countered with my observation.

Glad you enjoyed your walk.

Viviennemary · 14/07/2020 11:26

What do supporters think are the positive things about Harry and Meghan. Do they think they enhance the image of the royal family. Will they make a good contribution to the community they live in now. Are they good examples for save the planet campaigns. I am looking forward to seeing how this Latest film production goes.

TheNavigator · 14/07/2020 12:17

I don't necessarily expect H&M to do anything positive. I thought it was postive when a mixed race woman joined the royal family and was disappointed by the veiled and not so veiled racism she endured at the hands of the press and social media. I feel the royal family let them down, closing ranks to protect the institution rather than taking on the press.

I am no royalist, but do occassionally join (and report) the more unpleasant threads in this section when the glee in sticking the boot in Meghan becomes too uncomfortable. So I guess I feel negative towards the royal family rather than positive to Meghan. I don't have any strong feelings for her either way, but despair of the merciless way she has been taken down by the press.

Samcro · 14/07/2020 13:12

So true
I have said on many occasions that I can't stand bullying.

Bit of a derail, but i read that beatrice might have her wedding in the USA.
No idea if its true or not.

OverUnderSidewaysDown · 15/07/2020 10:13

Well I've just watched the Duchess of Sussex's speech to that conference in its entirety, and I must say I was struggling to find any actual meat at the heart of it. She looked very pretty but the content was vacuous.

Mummy195 · 15/07/2020 10:56

A greatly received speech by MM at the Girls Up summit. She is trending on SM, with a lot of press outlets quoting some extracts from her speech.

"There will always be negative voices & sometimes those voices can appear to be outsized, and sometimes they can appear to be painfully loud.
You can and will use your own voices to drown out the noise."

— Meghan Markle

I'm not too happy with the sound quality, but here is the speech from Girl Up youtube posting.

That ethical dress MM wore a few days back has , surprise, surprise, been sold out.

Hahaha, ppl sent tweets to Cadillac about how their environmental hybrid has been dubbed 'gas guzzling' by the daily fail.

I listened to what MM said, and also to Michelle O. Both good speeches I thought.

(I wish I could look like that in a linen dress and hat. I have a few of them and just look like a crumpled paper bag Grin)

On youtube, MM's speech has been viewed, as of right now, 52,541 times.

If you are receiving a "what's trending" notification and MM's name appears, it is because MM is one of your interests. It doesn't mean she is trending on social media.

Please link all of the media outlets quoting from the article, beyond merely reporting on it, the same way they reported on other speakers.

sorry but i dont think she looks nice in that dress.

What a petty way to respond to a woman's speech.
bluebell34567 · 15/07/2020 22:06

i meant the white linen dress.
