A continuation for those who would like to look at the positive side of Harry and Meghan.

@Mummy195 are you referring to the re tweet of Omid Scobie’s post because he said ‘a’ keynote speaker and your post said ‘the keynote speaker’

Blossom513 · 12/07/2020 17:32

If the article about W concerns and hotline is true, then he was correct and the Palace has to adjust according to the circumstances. Not clear why they did not in this case.

So pure speculation about KM having a hotline and pure speculation that MM didn't?

Blossom513 · 12/07/2020 17:35

Those headlines are not comparable.

Harry was giving a speech about the environment and the headline is aimed at all 114 private jets, not just his.

The William & Kate headline is actually about the going out for dinner with celebs who happen to have been at google camp? It wasn't an event about the environment? You could argue the William and Kate headline is more intrusive if it was a personal dinner.

You've only posted headlines so I can't comment on the content of the articles but I really don't see the issue in either of these headlines.

Oh ok, who are the other Keynote speakers?

Not my speculation. As reported by a mainstream newspaper.

Sheryl Sandberg, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Yara Shahidi, Abby Wambach, Nadia Murad

The agenda is available on line. There are a number of contributors

Nanasueathome · 12/07/2020 17:52

Michelle Obama is a keynote speaker too

Mummy195 · 12/07/2020 17:53

Harry was giving a speech about the environment and the headline is aimed at all 114 private jets, not just his.

As you state, he was talking to the private jet owners, a correct message. He never called the RR on this. Or released a press statement, even the transcript for this conference is not widely available because it was a private event. Just some snarky reporter was there and decided to tell us that that H is preaching to us. There are lots of these kind of conferences all the time, where the reach preach to each other. Leo DeCap himself has been preaching to these ppl, and jumping on private jets to see his model gf s forever. He even planted a whole forest in cabin offset - a concept that was suddenly unknown when H & EJ did it. We were then inundated with this story for ages, even today it's used as a stick to beat him and MM up.

Then, beginning of this year, K jumps on a private jet after telling us she and W are mending the earth and the press are quiet as a graveyard.

Anyway, how do you suppose W&K arrived at that same conference? It was after all long after W went and supported David Att.

Ok, then I will correct that as :
The keynote speakers are MM, MO, SS, PC etc.

(Can't really be bothered with printing out the whole list since it's already been done)

There, is that better?

I just googled the Google Camp articles, William and Kate attended the welcome dinner.

The entire event was criticised though. There are tons of articles not aimed at just Harry. Not only is it bloody hypocritical to have a summit around the environment whilst flying in on private jets or sailing in on your multi million pound yauchts, it's entirely elitist and just a disgusting display of filthy rich wealth.

Every single person who went deserves to be criticised.

I would prefer MO to be first named in the list

Nishky · 12/07/2020 18:00

It’s more accurate. Michelle Obama and Hilary Clinton amongst others are sending messages according to the agenda, not sure if they are making full speeches.

Blossom513 · 12/07/2020 18:06

What are you suggesting? That he stood up to tell them they were all naughty arriving by private jet, yachts, supercars and they need to make some changes? Why does the speech and the entire event need to be so secretive if they were all there out of the goodness of their hearts to change the world/environment for the better?

I would think if you genuinely wanted to make a real difference to the world with regards to the environment and equality you would object to attending such an elitist event in the first place.

It's just a cover up for a giant Hollywood piss up as far as I'm concerned.

Up to today, most of the ppl that were on that camp were never discussed as much as H & M (though I'm not sure she was there actually, I could be wrong, but she is named quite prominently when it comes to reporting this google summit).

I may have heard about Leo once or twice - still not as much. The rest, HS, TC, and all other most likely well known tech giants, never heard anything about them. H&M were discussed on TV shows, front news, and it's still a thing today, almost a year later.

Mummy195 · 12/07/2020 18:13

My pointing out the secrecy of the event, was that it was and still is widely reported that H was talking to us (US, the public). Telling us to do one thing while he does another. This was the excuse especially, where if a person asked what about the other royals, and ppl would say, well they did not preach to us - despite the fact that PC made speeches on climate since the 70s, officially, W was also on official duty with David A.

Blossom513 · 12/07/2020 18:19

Harry has gone on to launch Travelyst whilst continuing to use private jets, even after all the criticism the Google Camp event generated. And tried to justify it rather than hold his hands up and admit he should do better. They used their Instagram account to preach to us about the environment too which may be where MM has ended up involved. They initially said they were going to be based in both UK and North America which would also increase their carbon footprint. It's an accumulation of poor decisions when it comes to their supposed efforts to protect the environment. Can you really not see a problem with this? You don't think they should be held accountable for it?

Roussette · 12/07/2020 18:23

Yes, Charles has been making speeches on environmental awareness for decades. I remember him talking to plants in the early 80s! Back then he was thought of as a bit bonkers with it.
Now, of course, I think of him as ahead of his time.
But all the while, he takes private helicopters and private planes. He's only recently been criticised as far as I'm aware, just January he took 4 private jets in a two week period. So they all do it!!

Mummy195 · 12/07/2020 18:24

You don't think they should be held accountable for it?

I thing everyone should be held accountable, at exactly the same level. Not be over the top with others, while ever so forgiving with some.

OP posts:
Roussette · 12/07/2020 18:25

Charles needs to be held accountable too, then. It can't just be M&H. And Charles is very vocal on environmental issues. No different.

Blossom513 · 12/07/2020 18:26

So you don't disagree with the criticism then? Just that others should be criticised at the same level?

Mummy195 · 12/07/2020 18:27

PC, almost exclusively uses private jets. The only time he does not, is if one is not available. Just a few months ago he reminded us of his speech from back when . It was an anniversary of his climate speech, I think from 1969.

OP posts:
Roussette · 12/07/2020 18:30

Personally, I think if there is criticism, it needs to be fair. Where were the threads on Charles's 16,000 miles on private jets in January?
Nowhere.

I think they are right (Charles & H&M) to talk of climate change, environmental issues etc. It's a hot topic that needs talking about. Of course, it's going to stick in the craw a bit if they are not practising what they are preaching. But security does come into it. There has to be a happy medium somehow but that has to apply to all, and I can't imagine Charles giving up his private jet habit.

As I said... they're all at it!

Blossom513 · 12/07/2020 18:39

I would say it's probably only the last few years that anyone has been criticised for the use of private jets for environmental reasons.

Gary Barlow sometime last year had to delete an Instagram post of himself in a private jet because he very quickly started getting a large amount of backlash, for the crude display of wealth as well as the impact on the environment. I think it was not long after all the google camp stuff. I'm sure he still uses them but at least he's not showing off now or writing insta posts about the environment. I'm a huge Take That fan but even I could accept he deserved every bit of criticism he got for it.

With regards to Charles, I wonder if he gets more of a free pass from the public for being the direct heir to the throne. There is obviously a heirarchy to the royal family for all sorts of entitlements and maybe that applies to criticism and forgiveness too.

thisenglishlife · 12/07/2020 18:46

Harry has gone on to launch Travelyst
Which will focus on helping local communities, preventing damage to wildlife/areas and encouraging companies to improve, offer carbon offsetting, offer better managed resorts, etc... rather than encouraging not to travel, making sure travel is being better managed.

Travalyst’s founding companies announced the development of draft sustainability frameworks that will 'serve as a cross-channel guide' for scoring sustainability practices across the travel and tourism industry. The end goal is to create a scoring system across all participating platforms that will make it clear to travellers that they are picking a sustainably-minded holiday. Sounds like a good idea for the trial.

Blossom513 · 12/07/2020 18:50

It does sound like a good concept. I just have an issue around the 'do as I say, not as I do' approach. That's with anyone and anything, not just Harry.
