A continuation for those who would like to look at the positive side of Harry and Meghan.

You can fit a lot of footmen under that skirt.

Roussette · 17/05/2020 08:01

Margaret had beautiful skin, but mind you her sister the Queen does too.

It was the first royal wedding to be televised, I can imagine my parents glued to the black and white telly watching it...

Edward and Sophie haven't changed much!

Iggypoppie · 17/05/2020 09:43

Hello, I'm just joining this thread to say, well done for the positivity. I'm no royalist but the negativity and sneering on the other threads makes me question the sanity and values of some posters. It's horrible and totally disproportionate to hear megan and harry supposed 'crimes are.

Samcro · 17/05/2020 10:46

@Iggypoppie we do try to stay positive.

chrisseldah1 · 17/05/2020 12:11

I thought there would be lots of discussion on the internet and opinion pieces from royal experts about P A’s shenanigans😂. Reports of his charity & even today about JF. It seems like even though his conduct is abhorrent somehow he doesn’t generate interest.

It must have been really hard for H & M to continually be targets of hit pieces. There is always some expert ready / willing to say something about them .They have left, have no insta, Twitter etc seems like the media and some people can’t help but criticise. For nine months when M was pregnant some newspapers used to run 5 or more articles per day. Must have been exhausting & hurtful because the comments under those were not even moderates and were horrible.

I know M is not Michelle Obama, but there are some similarities with how everything they touch is criticised. Some people rush to charities & even public figures that dare praise M and abuse and insult M the charity even more. it’s almost as if this person is undeserving of being treated like human. Same used to happen to MO and to see people twisting themselves to explain why & how she was more horrible than past presidents wives🤷‍♀️.

I read that they are paying for Frogmore and though I think that’s good. If I were them/ M I would never come back to settle back in U.K., I would visit but wouldn’t . She has been told enough times to go back home.

chrisseldah1 · 17/05/2020 12:24

*meant would not stay permanently.

SetPhasersTaeMalkie · 17/05/2020 12:36

Has anyone seen the Monica Lewinsky TED talk about public shaming? It is very interesting.

Samcro · 17/05/2020 12:38

see i don't think they should have had to pay for frogmore. they do not own it, so the landlord should pay.

SetPhasersTaeMalkie · 17/05/2020 12:41

I do think they should pay and am pleased to read they allegedly have. Fingers crossed it's true.

chrisseldah1 · 17/05/2020 13:11

It’s good that they are paying but it will never be good enough for some people. The goal posts just keep moving of what they should or should not be doing. They disputed all the reports about copper baths , etc in Frogmore and the arguments moved to something else. It’s that thing that M is undeserving of certain things and needs be brought down a peg or two. Even if they paid the 2.4 lump sum I think there would be arguments that is not good enough.

Mummy195 · 17/05/2020 13:15

SetPhasersTaeMalkie

Why do you think they should pay Frogmore? I don't know why BP released the statement about them wishing to pay back the money because all that does is open up speculations about when they will pay back, and enforces this ownership that ppl feel towards the couple. At some stage I thought it was going to be a deal similar to PA's property. But are they actually going to come back to the UK that regularly? I would have understood the need to keep Frogmore is they were allowed the half in like other royals have. I see reports of them paying it in instalments now, about quarter of a million a year, I wonder if Frogmore will be given to someone else, and they can be absolved of it once and for all.

I did watch the MO documentary, I can see how she can be one of the ppl to guide MM in future as her and the likes of Oprah and other black women have had this resistance to their success for years. Glad to see MM friends in the states seem to so fortify the couple, unlike all the leaks from the Palace, that must have really hurt H, together with the deafening silence from everyone else in the family.

Just from a PR standpoint. Better to do it, even though that still won't be good enough for some.

Samcro · 17/05/2020 13:27

who owns frogmore? because if they don't the landlord has scored.

Mamamia456 · 17/05/2020 13:33

Samcro - It's owned by the Crown Estate, so currently the property of the Queen.

wufti · 17/05/2020 13:38

@Mummy195. Which other royals are half in?

Mummy195 · 17/05/2020 13:43

That was quite some gift from the Queen then.
The 2.4m was just the basic amount budgeted for the basic renovations, the final amount was reportedly closer to or above 3m. So that excess was paid privately by H&M. Frogmore was already earmarked for the renovations as it was falling apart, so on the face of it, H&M just renovated the property HMQ for free then.

Maybe, it's a good PR move for the future, but for now they are vilified even for payment, and it sets precedence that they should pay for everything even for the time when they were working royals. So now, there is demand that they pay back the security and wedding all of which were when they were working royals ( how about these ppl deduct all these amounts from the money that the wedding generated, then send back a cheque to the couple with the change).

Mummy195 · 17/05/2020 14:04

A lot of individuals in the RF is half in, half out. They help HMQ with duties while carrying on with their own careers. H&M basically asked to be demoted to minor royals in a way, without pay. Ppl will wonder, that is why they pointed out that others have done it in the past.

His cousins are doing just that :
As we know Beatrice and Eugenie have their own careers while helping HMQE with royal duties and patronages .

thedukeofyork.org/about-the-duke/princess-beatrice/

Zara also has patronages while she has her own equestrian clothing line.

Princess Michal Of Kent writes her royal mills&boons type books under the HRH title.

Her husband has his own business, and is a consultant on TV for various royal documentaries.

Their son Frederick (who is married to an actress too) works for JP Morgan.

So, I find it hard to see what the big deal is with H&M stepping down. PC said he wanted to streamline anyway. May as well get Archie and whatever siblings get used to it from the get go afaic.

It’s good that they are paying but it will never be good enough for some people
So agree with this. It doesn't matter what they do, it will be wrong. And agree with the moving of the goalposts too. How awful to have to live with this constant criticism and knowing that your very best will never be good enough because you have the name of Meghan Markle and by association Harry.

I do think the people who constantly criticise every single thing (gosh, Archie wore a vest shock horror) should consider what it must be like to have this hate all the time because it surely must be damaging to someone's mental health.

There are certain celebs who aren't my cup of tea, maybe I don't particularly like them, but I cannot imagine month after month, going on Twitter, or FB or endless threads here and making it my life's work to criticise them. It's an odd way to live a life.

Roussette · 17/05/2020 14:17

Zara is also Cheltenham Racecourse Director.

catinb0oots · 17/05/2020 14:25

@mummy195 - I presume it's because all those other royals have proper jobs. H&M wanted a job out side of the royal family, of being royal!!! Completely different

Mummy195 · 17/05/2020 14:26

A job of being a royal ? What job is that ?

OP posts:
derxa · 17/05/2020 14:27

I know M is not Michelle Obama, but there are some similarities with how everything they touch is criticised. There is really nothing similar about them apart from being women of colour, being American and attending university.

catinb0oots · 17/05/2020 14:32

Well meeting and greeting usually. And supporting charities, It currently seems to be zoom calls.

Mummy195 · 17/05/2020 14:36

Well, they never said meets and greets will be their main job, though they did say they are will continue to support HMQ, which is what they are doing. We have no idea of all they will do, but charities is definitely high on the cards from their indication . Charities do not exclusively belong to the RF. You can ask any hundreds of foundations out there.
