New thread

Has anyone seen that Lady Colin Campbell has written a book on Harry and Meghan using insider information. Apparently she’s has members of the Markle family to stay. She’s brave!

Thanks for the new thread, Roses.

Yes I saw the item about LCC's book. She won't pull any punches.

Morning!

Thank you all for the Fergie info in the old thread.
I agree that Megs will end up like Fergie, but much less likeable.

7Worfs · 10/05/2020 10:48

Re Lady CC book - I’ve surprised myself by deciding I’ll be buying it. Grin

I just read a bit about her background, it’s quite... colourful.

WindsorBlues · 10/05/2020 10:51

I'll buy Lady Colin Campbells book. At least she's up front about being a horrid person

EthelMayFergus · 10/05/2020 10:57

I've just seen the video of Harry, his face looks thinner. I'll be surprised if Harry's teeth still look British in a year.

Lady Colin Campbell has been quite indiscreet in the past, her book will be far more interesting than the one overseen by Harry and Meghan.

Oldbutstillgotit · 10/05/2020 11:00

i know this thread isn’t about Fergie but I also remember some of the awful headlines about her clothes -a dress made her look like a milkmaid according to one paper and she was also called the Duchess of Pork when she put on some weight. She was also criticised for dressing her daughters in the same clothes .
Kind of makes some of the comments about M not quite so bad !? The difference is that Fergie didn’t flounce off .

Great, thanks for the new thread.

I agree Fergie was mercilessly hounded and treated far worse than Diana. Harry was too little to remember. Another thing he needs to be educated on perhaps - I think he is looking at more recent times. Eg the wessex’s.

If he’s comparing the press coverage of Sophie Wessex, I imagine Harry would be greatly aggrieved. She was the same sort of age as Meghan when she married Edward. They’re well matched. Sophie is pure class and very discreet, quietly working and not complaining. Meghan is the polar opposite of her really. It isn’t surprising therefore that she hasn’t attracted the same sort of coverage.

Unfortunately the press will pick up on anything outside the quiet, dignified exterior the queen likes to be portrayed to the public. Stories sell papers and there’s nothing to be gained from publishing the Rf behaving well. Badly otoh...

Mummyoflittledragon · 10/05/2020 11:23

I forgot to add, I also have a soft spot for Fergie precisely because she rode everything out; the divorce, shunning, financial difficulty. She has brought up her girls well and has become a bit of a quiet star. She’s matured well. Like an expensive wine.

EthelMayFergus · 10/05/2020 11:24

It must've been difficult for her (SF), I never heard of her complaining or anything, she seems like the type to laugh it off or take it on the chin. People like that are normally quite likeable. The press seemed to deliberately publish really unflattering pictures of her as well which must've been awful. I have seen terrible pictures of MM, almost unrecognisable - but none of the papers have published them.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 10/05/2020 11:29

Fergie had to wait a long time to be forgiven.

I remember her arriving on the scene, bright and bubbly and with a Past, shock horror. She was always up against the sainted Diana, and had a terrible time over her fashion sense. The public didn't always love her, especially after Toegate. Going to the US was the only way she could make a living and she wasn't great at that.

Like MM, her crime was the indignity of her conduct.

Unlike MM, she was the soul of discretion about the RF, unfailingly respectful about HMQ, uncomplaining about the way she had been put out in the cold.

She's still daft as a brush but by far the more honourable character.

CathyorClaire · 10/05/2020 11:32

Sophie was embroiled in her own scandals at one point but has shut up and put up like a good royal wife and worked her way back into the public's favour.

Fergie didn't flounce because she knew she was on to a good thing even after her divorce.

Meghan would have done well to note either approach. The third way is looking deader in the water by the day.

That Times article is interestingly timed given Andrew's chalet related woes. It was widely wondered how he could afford the thing in the first place and there's still a £7m discrepancy between the purchase price and the unpaid loan. I think there's plenty more to come out about his finances and this is part of a slow distancing between him and the palace.

TimeLady · 10/05/2020 11:33

Sorry, but let's be honest, the York women have turned up in some dreadful outfits. Bea's ugly attention-seeking hat at WaK's wedding for one.

CadburysTastesVileNow · 10/05/2020 11:49

I think Harry's hairline has receded a bit or been combed back - it used to curve down. Now it is showing more of his forehead, and his face looks thinner because of it - and he looks much more like William.

BarleylemonPenguin · 10/05/2020 11:51

Agree with this. I remember seeing a very deep curtesy from her to the Queen and surprised myself by thinking how likeable that made her seem despite the other negative connotations of this action.

MrsJoshNavidi · 10/05/2020 11:56

I thought Harry looked more like William in the video. I've never thought them at all alike before. Harry is the spit of Philip and William is a Spencer through and through.
Maybe it's the weight loss

LangtryArchewellSwipePenguin · 10/05/2020 11:57

Pmk

RosesandIris · 10/05/2020 12:00

Sarah Ferguson has been badly treated, but she does like to spend and she likes the lifestyle that goes with being Royal. She really hasn't done anything to earn that lifestyle. She hasn't had to 'work' within the RF really. Even whilst married she appeared to want to have fun at all costs without much regard to her public image. She didn't do many public engagements before her divorce, nothing on the scale of Diana or Meghan. She has expected to live in luxury ever since her marriage ended. Her books haven't been much of a success. She could have retrained and built a proper career for herself rather than spending her life riding on Andrew's coat tails. They are both lazy and greedy in my view , and I can't bear either of them. I don't think either of them are very bright and have little self awareness.
However they do seem to have been very good parents, and their girls seem really decent people with good values.

Today’s rag says they’ve hird the Beckham’s former aide. What could possibly go wrong!

RosesandIris · 10/05/2020 12:01

The Queen apparently likes her a lot, so she must have some redeeming features.

Fergie was on Parkinson a few years later and was asked about scathing comments PP made about her- she praised the Queen and PP and was applauded by the audience. Very sensible, but came across as genuine somehow- it is possible she had rehearsed the speech knowing she would be asked about it

AMillionMugsNoTeabags · 10/05/2020 12:13

Is that in addition to the “Chief of Staff” they hired a couple of months ago? Genuine question - what are all these staff doing?

rosiepony · 10/05/2020 12:17

Yes this is another one hired to ‘arrange their days’

Puzzledandpissedoff · 10/05/2020 12:22

In many ways I found Harry's Invictus video frightening; never mind the weight loss, what happened to the eye contact??

It's not as if he lacks experience in this sort of thing and any idiot knows you engage the viewer by at least looking at them, but he appears like someone who'd been dragged before the Headmaster and daren't look up

katiegoestoaldi · 10/05/2020 12:24

He did seem rather lacklustre I thought
