Hasn't Prince Harry learnt anything from his mother's experience of having someone write her biography 'to set the record straight'? Couldn't they have at least waited until after his grandmother's death, however long that might be?

Harry's a dimwit. But he's also proven himself a self-absorbed, stroppy, petty spoilt brat as well.

Her evil eye necklace. Didn't she change religions to marry Harry and become confirmed in the Church of England before their wedding (she also converted to Judaism to marry a previous husband, IIRC, and was a Catholic, too, at one point). Seems to have thrown that over fairly quickly Grin.

My dad always says you can change your wife, your religion and just about anything. The only thing you can't change is the football team you support Grin

Oh, and was given British citizenship, a process that is quite difficult, convoluted and expensive for non-EU spouses of British nationals, takes a minimum of 5 years. But they rolled out the red carpet for Harry and MM, who then appear to have pissed all over it, rucked up and left.

I can't help but feel a tad sorry for Harry. He has been manoeuvered into giving up his country, his hobbies ( no more hunting etc ) , drinking and smoking not to mention life long friends and his entire family and indeed his country and all his causes and connections that he seemed to hold dear.
No wonder he can't believe how his life has panned out ! So many major changes in such a short space of time would leave anyone reeling! Not to mention one who ( as he keeps telling us ) has mental health issues aplenty.
I think he has been an absolute fool to be so easily persuaded to throw away so much and it sounds like he is beginning to wake up to that fact already.
I can't imagine Meghan was too pleased to see the comments and before telling me that Harry is a grown man who has made his own mess and it should not be blamed on her you are of course right but somehow I feel that she will always land on her feet and Harry is seriously out of his depth.
I genuinely hope I am wrong and that they can find a way to build a happy and secure future together but I just can't see how it can possibly work .

pigdogridesagain · 30/04/2020 19:10

I think Harry has always been a bit stupid, spoilt and headstrong, the royal families PR machine did well the spin this and he was very well liked by the general public. Along came the odious social climber and he refused to listen to any advice or any council by his brother. Everyone else could see where this was headed apart from him, I don't think he's currently very happy and I don't believe this marriage will make it to 5 years.

HarryDaylight · 30/04/2020 19:13

Harry is nearing middle age and more than responsible for his own decisions.

He and his wife have more than enough money to live happily ever after, so they don't get any sympathy from me.

If they wish to chase fame and celebrity, while taking loads of dosh from the UK, then they have to expect criticism. They could live happily ever after if they chose to, but for some reason they thrive on grandiose behaviour and conflict.

TimeLady · 30/04/2020 19:33

I don't think Meghan was given British citizenship and there are reports that she has abandoned the process, particularly as she won't be able to comply with the residency requirements.

TinRoofRusty · 30/04/2020 19:47

I agree, HarryDelight. Why feel sorry for him, he's bloody 35-years-old!? He knew damn well what he was doing, he chose to think with his other head, though.

Choux · 30/04/2020 19:58

Im sure i read something that lottery winners experience a brief period of increased happiness maybe 6 months or so but after a while their happiness level returns to the same level as it was before the lottery win, so if you weren't happy before you won't be afterwards.

Interesting. Meghan's life recently has been roughly:
6 months as a fiancée
6 months as a newlywed
6 months as a mother to be
6 months as a new mum
6 months as a royal in self-imposed exile

The return to dissatisfaction must be happening right about now and must be time for another change of role.

TimeLady · 30/04/2020 20:03

Harry is just six weeks younger than my son; he's a grown man and has to accept the consequences of his decisions, however misguided.

Mummyoflittledragon · 30/04/2020 20:08

TimeLady
However he won’t. It will be the fault of the press, which enforced his exile and caused his misery. Idk what kind of therapy he received. But it was not effective. He needs to seek counsel from someone not impressed by his position.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 30/04/2020 20:13

If that Nanny sold her story it would be an interesting read

Wait ... Wink

Justmuddlingalong · 30/04/2020 20:20

Anyone else remember as a teenager having a totally unsuitable boyfriend /girlfriend? When everyone else told you what an arse your beloved was, you dug your heels in and pretended everything was hunky dory. When you were left to get on with it and they stopped commenting, the truth dawned on you and you dumped his/her sorry arse. Am I the only one seeing teenage angst comparisons?

BlueChangling · 30/04/2020 20:45

Is anyone planning on buying the book? At the minute its currently in my "i'd really like to read it but I don't want them to make any money from me, even if it is a few measly pence" the other books that fall into pile for me are Tony Blair's and Amanda Knox's autobiographies.

MrsJoshNavidi · 30/04/2020 21:04

Just watched a re-run off DIY SOS with W&H in it. I think it must have been made not long after H had left the forces. He was a completely different person from the man we see today.

Nikhedonia · 30/04/2020 21:13

DIY SOS with W+H Confused

HarryDaylight · 30/04/2020 21:18

Probably because he was under the umbrella of the royal family's press office who made sure that he was protected from media attention.

TinRoofRusty · 30/04/2020 21:21

Too right, TimeLady, Mum and Just. It's like he never got out of adolescence although my teenager is more mature than he is. Sad but he's well into adulthood, he really is. Everything is someone else's fault, his family, the press, the British public. Grow the fuck up.

yoloPenguinsEatfish · 30/04/2020 21:29

god, I wish we had a like function on here...

Harry is nearing 40. His mother died some 30 years ago. He has had access to the best therapy money can buy, he had a perfectly acceptable life path ahead (ok, some restrictions but every financial benefit possible).

He had a carefully cultivated man of the people, normal bloke, supports the armed forces image.

The public were prepared to overlook the naked billiards, the nazi outift, the raghead/paki comments because "oh he's a laugh".

This was all working for him - apparently - and then M turns up.

Since when he has seemed more and more unhappy, petulant, angry and confrontational.

SliAnCroix · 30/04/2020 21:37

I agree, but he is not 36 yet is he? Is that nearly forty 🤷‍♀️

MrsJoshNavidi · 30/04/2020 21:41

He's closer to 40 than than 20!

TimeLady · 30/04/2020 21:43

I'm currently working my way through C4's The Windsors for the first time; I've just watched S2, Ep 5, produced in 2017

Shock

Whereas most of the characters are so ludicrously over the top, they're funny, the H & M characters (with the benefit of hindsight) are starting to come across as uncomfortably accurate. Grin

StartupRepair · 30/04/2020 21:55

I think in Harry's old world there was a structure and level of support that he was not even aware of. Bit like our children who think things just magically happen, not realising the choices, decisions and hard work that go on behind the scenes of, say, Christmas. Now Harry is on his own with no palace officials or old friends quietly making things happen. It will be deeply shocking for him.

CanIHaveAPenguinPlease · 30/04/2020 21:56

The Windsor’s is brilliant. I love it especially Puppa (not a spelling mistake) Grin

Yes to the accuracy - it’s uncanny in a way.
