Hasn't Prince Harry learnt anything from his mother's experience of having someone write her biography 'to set the record straight'? Couldn't they have at least waited until after his grandmother's death, however long that might be?

I also think OS is somebody for whom pronouns are important.

This may explain a lack of past information available - a name change perhaps?

LadyEloise · 03/05/2020 13:55

The tweet from Serena's husband implied what ?

Mummyoflittledragon · 03/05/2020 13:56

Oops didn’t mean to post that. I was trying to paste something.

I rewatched her UN speech. It was word perfect. But it doesn’t gel well. She has learnt the script but instead of letting it flow, she monitors herself on and off, eg when she talks about when she was a girl aged 11. To be sincere, she needed to just let it flow. That would be the art of good oration and acting. That doesn’t mean she’s lying btw. Possibly reflecting on how cool she was or self adulating. After all what she achieved was pretty fantastic for an 11 yo.

What it does perhaps tell us is that she likes the sound of her own voice and thinks she has more to offer to the world than it does to her and expects to be listened to and adored.

@EthelMayFergus and @Mummyoflittledragon yes! You’ve both combined together and hit the nail on the head for me!

It is those two (little) things together that make Meghan unwatchable for me. The insincerity was there during the engagement interview as well and I cringed watching that too.

Also on rewatching both their style is completely different. Kate is very much sticking to the brief and only talking really to ask questions to highlight the cause she’s publicising. She does offer some personal thoughts, but she appears to want to let the people she’s talking to be the stars of the show.

Meghan on the other hand, I lost track of how many times she used the word I...

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 03/05/2020 14:00

I'm glad you posted that, @Mummyoflittledragon as I found the UN speech really insincere and "soapy". I'm astonished when I see people write that she's an excellent public speaker, because I think she's dreadful at it.

TinRoofRusty · 03/05/2020 14:01

Oh, I don't think everybody like her at first. I think Charles, the Queen and definitely William saw right through her but there was no telling the gormless Harry. They gave her the benefit of the doubt, for his sake, but she proved them right and he really proved himself not just a pillock, which they already knew, but a spoilt, stroppy manchild into the bargain.

Mariposa123 · 03/05/2020 14:01

@Mummyoflittledragon gosh just watched the start of that video and you’re right, the whole thing is (over) a yes. You can also visualise where the stage directions say “pause for applause”.

Mariposa123 · 03/05/2020 14:01

Almost, not also visualise.

Mariposa123 · 03/05/2020 14:02

Acted, not a yes. Typing with one arm constricted by a napping baby makes me autocorrect go weird!

TinRoofRusty · 03/05/2020 14:10

The people on Midsomer Murders are far better actors. C'mon, people really believed this gal? She actually looks more sincere in her previous wedding photos, the Harry ones, so fake!

Mariposa123 · 03/05/2020 14:11

I’m down a rabbit hole here, but I’ve just been reminded of the actor AnnaLynne McCord (the lead in 90210, in which MM had the briefest of parts) but who has a similar profile as actor turned humanitarian. She speaks out on a lot of women’s issues. Just found her tedtalk and it’s just so much more authentic and honest sounding. Even the mannerisms appear real.

It shows that the criticism against MM simply being Too American are unfair and untrue.

Mariposa123 · 03/05/2020 14:13

It may be as equally scripted and acted, but it doesn’t appear so I think the same way.

Off topic I know so I’ll stop there

TinRoofRusty · 03/05/2020 14:15

Michelle Obama. Also American. Note the difference in her actions and her speeches. Like night and day.

Exactly. Idk about in British acting circles, but in French, where acting is very natural and based on feelings, the Americans are laughed at as very much over acting. I’m not talking about high budget method acting btw. It therefore may be that in the US her speech is seen as polished and very sincere.

For me, however, her speech brings to mind BJ’s speech on Monday. See pic for explanation of his very crude hand signals.

Who actually fell for her act? She looked smug as a Cheshire cat with a fat, dead rat under its paw

You've painted quite the picture there Grin

flapjackfairy · 03/05/2020 14:29

Blimey I only managed 30 seconds of that UN speech. How embarrassingly cringeworthy .

TinRoofRusty · 03/05/2020 14:32

It therefore may be that in the US her speech is seen as polished and very sincere.

Nah. They're not buying it anymore than anyone else is. Don't want to pay for their security, either.

Hamsterian · 03/05/2020 14:34

That UN speech is very cringeworthy. She sounds totally amazed and in love with herself 🤣
Also that whole letter thing to protest at the advertisement wasn’t her idea. It was a task they all did together at school! She should stop pretending it was all out of her own accord.

Mummyoflittledragon · 03/05/2020 14:42

TinRoof
I don’t think so either. But am trying to give her the benefit of the doubt on this one... Grin

User0987613 · 03/05/2020 15:15

Omid Scobie is almost certainly a pen name. Can't blame them though...if there ever was a job where you can use a pseudonym then this would be it.

Allflightscancelled · 03/05/2020 15:30

I KNOW this is really mean, but I was just watching a YouTube thing about Omid Scobie and this comment was posted underneath. It made me smile:

'What Commonwealth means for Meghan: Miss Common married Mr Wealth'.

Grin

Sorry, I'll get. my coat

Mummyoflittledragon · 03/05/2020 15:31

I have tried to look to see if there are twitter posts from before he became a royal editor. I’m not terribly au fait with twitter and I have been trying to scroll to the bottom. He joined in 2008 when he was 18/20 and has now written over 12k tweets. For some reason I can’t get past 24th September last year.

SadOrWickedFairy · 03/05/2020 15:32

determined to create a new path away from the spotlight yet the spotlight is an absolute must for the new humanitarian, world saving, money spinning ventures isn't it?

I was musing over what Harry has thrown away with this flounce to LA - the British public were very warm to him, he was within a close circle within the Royal Family, he was close to his Grandmother, Grandfather, Father, Brother, Sister-in-Law, Cousins, nephews and niece, he had a close circle of friends from within the aristocracy and from school, he had his Military connections, polo playing buddies. Now he is alone in LA, with just Meghan, Archie, Doria and staff/security personnel completely cut off from all of the people and from the purpose and role he had within those circles. On the other hand, Meghan was someone who did not have a particularly close connection with immediate or extended family and the circle of friends don't appear to be very long term friends and seem to be cultivated for their usefulness to her more than anything else.

He has given up and lost an awful lot, I wonder if the reason he looks so miserable, angry and resentful all the time is because he realises this but can't bear to or won't put the blame for it where it lies, i.e., with himself and this has led to the victim persona and him lashing out and throwing blame at everyone else that he is currently doing. It does feel like the history of Edward VIII repeating itself, Harry will be very lonely, bitter and twisted, seething with envy as he watches the rest of the RF carry on doing what they do without him.

thisenglishlife · 03/05/2020 15:40

The name Omid is Turkish/Persian and Scobie is a Scottish surname.Omid Scobie is mixed race, so it could be his real name.

He is ABC News’s Royal Contributor, Harper's Bazaar Royal editor, he has also worked for Town and Country magazine and Good Morning America and has a royal related podcast.
