A continuation of the thread discussing the Cambridges' contribution to the pandemic.

OP posts:

One thing the pandemic has shown us is that the Royals haven't been missed by the vast majority of people. That therefore begs the question what is the point of them? Have all the Royalists missed the occasional wave or pre-written speech?
Are the Royals worth the estimated £300mn pa cost? I think not.

maresydoats · 04/05/2020 20:26

TheGirlFromStoryville

Agreed. They are unbelievably haughty and don't care about us ordinary mortals who bankroll them.

But they are just ordinary themselves anyway. They have to pee and sit on the toilet just like we all do. lol. No getting away from that!

Clavinova · 04/05/2020 20:28

What are you talking about? Did you miss the royal birthdays, clapping for the NHS, Prince Charles' illness, William with Stephen Fry...?

Get a life love.

I like the life I have thank you - coronavirus aside.

"The Royal Family are an incredible force for good when it comes to supporting charities."

"charities of which the Queen is patron raised more than £1.4 billion every year, it becomes clear that having a royal name atop one’s charity is a big deal. The royals are afforded both a platform and an audience simply because of who they are. We cannot underestimate the impact that has when they use that platform to promote charities. All of a sudden a charity can find itself on the BBC, the Daily Mail, plastered across Twitter–attention that it may not have been able to garner by itself."

"The Prince of Wales, who founded the Prince’s Trust more than 40 years ago, has dedicated much of his life to supporting charitable organisations. The Trust alone has helped over 825,000 young people across the UK since its inception, and quite easily raises upwards of £60 million every year to keep it running."

maresydoats · 04/05/2020 20:49

Plenty of people support charities without the Royal moniker or support.

If that is all the RF do well then they need a bloody good paycut!

CathyorClaire · 04/05/2020 20:54

William with Stephen Fry

Oh yes. Fricking around pretending his trousers were awol Hmm

Alsohuman · 04/05/2020 20:59

You added an extra 0 there @TheGirlFromStoryville, it’s £30 million.

Warwick Business School - University of Warwick;

"Not only does the Queen play a large part in the annual £500 million that tourists bring to the UK, but her marketability contributes to the country’s £160 billion annual exports, especially luxury goods."

www.wbs.ac.uk/news/five-reasons-why-the-queen-is-good-for-uk-business/

"Prince George is worth around $3.6 billion to the British economy, and Princess Charlotte is worth $5 billion"... "Princess Charlotte’s heftier worth perhaps can be attributed to her gender. Her birth generated the “Charlotte effect,” ... “A princess attracts endorsements from fashion brands and people get excited about her clothing and accessories choices,”

Who do the Royal kids benefit?

Clavinova · 04/05/2020 21:19

Who do the Royal kids benefit?

British businesses - manufacturers and retailers - clothes, souvenirs, baby products...Many products will be exported abroad or bought by foreign tourists in the UK.

Alsohuman · 04/05/2020 21:20

Who do the Royal kids benefit?

What an absurd question. Who do your kids benefit?

Well done Charles

maresydoats · 04/05/2020 21:30

Alsohuman,

The RF is just a publicity thing. And it works for the hard of reality folk.

Alsohuman · 04/05/2020 21:33

Excuse me, was that supposed to make sense?

maresydoats · 04/05/2020 21:46

Alsohuman

Of course it makes sense unless you don't want it to!

The RF are parasites. End of story, they are off the radar of ordinary people. You know, those people who are struggling in their own lives, but support them through taxation etc

Just because they were born or married in doesn't mean they are special.

On the other hand I would not swop with any of them. I like my life. Would totally hate their lives. But do not want to bankroll them either.

Not impressed.

Clavinova · 04/05/2020 21:48

"In March 2014, Charles arranged for five million measles-rubella vaccinations for children in the Philippines on the outbreak of measles in South-East Asia. According to Clarence House, Charles was affected by news of the damage caused by Typhoon Yolanda in 2013. International Health Partners, of which he has been Patron since 2004, sent the vaccines, which are believed to protect five million children below the age of five from measles."

Alsohuman · 04/05/2020 21:51

Sorry I’m a bit simple and I need sentences in which the words have some meaning and connection. This means nothing to me:

The RF is just a publicity thing. And it works for the hard of reality folk

maresydoats · 04/05/2020 21:53

Oh here is the RF spokesperson. Clavinova Lol.

What are they doing about Corona Virus apart from cocooning in their mansions with nannies and servants.

maresydoats · 04/05/2020 21:57

Also human.

Just meant that some people just don't do reality and accept every bit of shyte thrown at them. The RF being a bit of that too.

That ok?

Clavinova · 04/05/2020 22:06

Oh here is the RF spokesperson. Clavinova Lol.

Funniest thing is - I wasn't really a fan before these threads started - now I'm Prince Charles' number one fan - thanks to you lot! Smile

What are they doing about Corona Virus apart from cocooning in their mansions with nannies and servants.

You missed the previous links?

maresydoats · 04/05/2020 22:12

The RF is dead now, they serve no purpose. Apart from sucking from the teat of our hard earned work via taxation.

I don't wish them bad at all, but they are totally irrelevant now. And I think they are getting the message slowly but surely.

Winterlife · 05/05/2020 02:26

@maresydoats, that is your opinion. You don't know what the majority of the population believes about the RF.

Alsohuman · 05/05/2020 08:12

We can soon tell her.

Wolfgirrl · 05/05/2020 09:48

@Alsohuman

So older conservative men are more likely to support the monarchy? Well, knock me down with a feather.

The link you just posted is from a couple of years ago, before the very recent scandals. It would be interesting to see what the public think now.

I think most support for the monarchy is fairly indifferent - as in, they support it as they're not specifically against it. It's what people have always known and most people probably havent given it much thought.
