A continuation of the thread discussing the Cambridges' contribution to the pandemic.

OP posts:
Wolfgirrl · 04/05/2020 00:31

What have I walked in on, all this talk of exhuming people?! Grin

Well, we have now established that clavinova, alsohuman and mamamia were being incredibly optimistic when they said batch cooking would be impossible for a number of reasons.

Now we have established that they can indeed cook in their kitchen, make safe trips out of the house that arent a security nightmare (indeed they were even happy with charlotte going out!), and that they are not having to stay at home to lead by example, what excuses do you now have for them not doing volunteering to this effect at least several days a week?

Winterlife · 04/05/2020 01:06

How do you know they’re not doing this volunteering several days a week?

Abraid2 · 04/05/2020 01:14

*Prince Philip could address the nation, as he did serve in WWII.

Anyone who actually served would be a better option.*

During the Second World War he served in the Mediterranean and Pacific Fleets.

Wolfgirrl · 04/05/2020 01:22

@Winterlife because they publicise everything they do.

Winterlife · 04/05/2020 01:30

How do you know that?

Wolfgirrl · 04/05/2020 07:17

@Winterlife how do you know they don't?

Clavinova · 04/05/2020 07:55

Well, we have now established that clavinova, alsohuman and mamamia were being incredibly optimistic when they said batch cooking would be impossible for a number of reasons.

I don't think I said anything of the sort.

Winterlife · 04/05/2020 08:10

@ Wolfgirrl, I don’t. Which is why, unlike you, I haven’t made a definitive “authoritative” statement on the issue.

Clavinova · 04/05/2020 08:29

The Queen has an obvious relevance to V.E. day here as well;

"The royal family and Winston Churchill on balcony of Buckingham palace, V.E. day. London."

Alsohuman · 04/05/2020 08:46

Nor did I @Clavinova. The propensity of some regular posters on this thread to twist or make up the words of people who don’t agree with them renders any attempt at discussion pointless.

Clavinova · 04/05/2020 08:50

"The Duchess of Cambridge surprised new parents with a virtual bedside visit 16 hours after they welcomed their baby son into the world."

"The conversation came during a call from the Duchess to midwives she worked alongside on a two-day work placement at Kingston Hospital last November."

"Ahead of UK Maternal Mental Health Awareness Week, (May 4-10), Kate heard from midwives about how Coronavirus has changed the experience of expectant mums and new parents, with staff wearing personal protective equipment for appointments and births."

"Last week the Duchess also spoke to experts from organisations including the Royal College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, of which she is patron, the Maternal Mental Health Alliance and the Institute of Health Visiting, about challenges facing new parents during the pandemic."

Wolfgirrl · 04/05/2020 11:24

Great, another hour long video chat. What of it?

Wolfgirrl · 04/05/2020 11:25

One of you definitely said if the royals started venturing out of their mansions you would judge them for not staying at home. Anyone prepared to hold their hands up? (I expect not)

Alsohuman · 04/05/2020 11:28

You’re the expert on these threads @Wolfgirrl, I’m sure you could find it if you care so much.

Wrong thread

Wolfgirrl · 04/05/2020 11:51

Which is why, unlike you, I haven’t made a definitive “authoritative” statement on the issue

The point is we should know. We are effectively their employer. If you employed somebody, and asked what they were doing that week, what would you think if they replied 'None of your business'. Aside from being very rude you would assume they were doing naff all.

BurneyFanny · 04/05/2020 12:04

Fucking hell can you imagine being so entitled as to imagine that new parents are bound to be delighted to share their most intimate family time with you, a complete stranger?

Clavinova · 04/05/2020 12:08

"Prince William will feature in a new documentary as part of a series of BBC programmes aimed at promoting Mental Health Awareness Week."

"With a working title of “Tackling Mental Health with the Duke of Cambridge“, the film sees the prince tackle “men’s mental health through the prism of football.”

"Filmed over the course of a year, the Duke of Cambridge meets with players, fans and managers, including former England goalkeeper Joe Hart and Chelsea manager Frank Lampard, in a bid to “start the biggest ever conversation on mental health”.

"Mental Health Awareness Week will take place from 18-24 May";

Alsohuman · 04/05/2020 12:17

We are effectively their employer

I bet you get off on telling people who upset you in shops that you pay their wages. We’re not their employer any more than we’re the employers of anyone else who’s paid from public funding. Using that reasoning you think you can ask an NHS worker what they’re doing this week and expect them to be accountable to you.

Pelleas · 04/05/2020 12:39

The issue of whether we are the Royals' 'employer' is a red herring. The problem is that other publicly funded bodies have accountability to the public and plcs have accountability to their shareholders. But the Royals don't seem to have accountability to anyone.

Your MP - you can vote out if not doing a decent job; if behaving dysfunctionally, you can raise a complaint (see today's headline about Conor Burns).

NHS, Police, Schools - all have regulatory bodies and defined complaints procedures for dissatisfied members of the public.
Large companies - banks, energy suppliers, in addition to shareholder accountability have Ombudsmen for the public to complain to; and bodies like Trading Standards, Competitions and Markets etc. to help the public get a fair deal.

The Royals - no redress at all if we don't think we are getting value for money. We have to go on and on funding them whatever they do.

OP posts:
Wolfgirrl · 04/05/2020 12:42

More deflection Alsohuman.

@pelleas yep but none of the royalists will address that point as there us no justification for it.

Alsohuman · 04/05/2020 13:05

Yup, it’s always “deflection” when someone points out the flaw in your argument @Wolfgirrl. This thread’s like a parrot house.

Yes, there is no regulatory body for the royal family although the PM of the day seems to have some influence. I seem to remember Blair advising the Queen to return to London in the wake of Diana’s death.

BurneyFanny · 04/05/2020 13:06

Come on Wolfgrrl everyone knows the royals have productivity targets and annual performance assessments like everyone else.

BarleylemonPenguin · 04/05/2020 13:50

But the Royals don't seem to have accountability to anyone

Yes and no. On the surface - no (and especially when they let people in who don't understand how it all works, who want to draw attention to the deep networks, and who want to glitter and shine instead of keeping their head down). However, they must be hyper-aware of the fact that they may be removed....by the populace. It doesnt happen often but the possjbility/threat is ever-present. That is a type of accountability that must be hard to live with. Charles' 'slimming down the monarchy' mantra is all about accountability. He's prepared to throw distant family members under the bus to ensure his own survival. He is ultra-aware of everything that is being discussed here.
