I answered at 17 mins past 4

Cerseirys · 21/04/2020 17:17

The Hubb kitchen and Smartworks are about a bit more than 'cooking and fashion'. The former provided meals for people affected by the Grenfell fire and the latter provides clothes and coaching for job interviews for women who've been out of the workplace for extended periods of time. Both organisations have also said that Meghan visited them several times and came up with the idea of the cookbook and the clothes range.

CallmeAngelina · 21/04/2020 17:25

Your 17.04 post did not answer *wolfgirrl's question at all.

Wolfgirrl · 21/04/2020 17:40

@Samcro

So you are supporting her purely because others are mean to her? Not because if anything she herself has done?

Wolfgirrl · 21/04/2020 17:43

@Cerseirys

A cynic would say they are activities that would compliment her 'lifestyle guru' image but let's be kind and say she contributed to the cookbook and helped design a clothes range because she truly believed they were worthy causes in the UK.

Do you think she raised more money for these charities than we spent on her clothes and house?

soberfabulous · 21/04/2020 17:43

Found you!

I was and remain happy for Harry and Meghan.

Cerseirys · 21/04/2020 18:01

Do you think she raised more money for these charities than we spent on her clothes and house?

Probably not but does any member of the royal family? I'm not trying to "justify" her actions, just saying that that seems to be par for the course when you have a royal family. Even the sainted Anne has probably cost more than she's raised for charity. Hell I'd support abolishing the monarchy but I doubt the Great British Public would!

Wolfgirrl · 21/04/2020 18:05

@Cerseirys I would most definitely support it.

I'm not singling meghan out. I definitely think the criticism of things out of her control (the way she looks, her background etc) is unwarranted and nasty.

But equally she has done very little to endear herself to the public and has swallowed up enormous amounts of our money. Just because she is being unduly criticised in some areas, it doesn't make her some kind of saint.

Cerseirys · 21/04/2020 18:21

I certainly don't think she's a saint and I doubt anyone on this thread does either!

CallmeAngelina · 21/04/2020 19:02

I didn't have anything against her personally at all. Nor Harry.
I liked (what I knew of) them both and thought they were an asset to the RF.
Until they started stropping like teenagers. And now I'm done with all their nonsense and I just wish the British media would impose a black-out on all news of them. Particularly if it turns out she is pregnant. That changes nothing, in my view.

Roussette · 21/04/2020 19:03

I am late to this thread so out the loop somewhat.

Thank you Mummy195 for starting it.

So here we go...the positives and the negatives all on here.

Dan Wootton is fuming on twitter, it's actually funny to watch
Good. He is a nasty individual.

And upthread someone mentioned Princess Margaret. She was a pretty horrible person who flaunted affairs, was much disliked, she treated both friends and staff like shit, but...
she got sympathy from the british public because she was not allowed to marry the person she loved and more importantly...
there was no social media to tear her apart endlessly

Nothing but nothing MM has done can compare but look at what she's subjected to.

Sorry to generalise on this thread, I'm late to the party Grin

ArriettyJones · 21/04/2020 19:11

@RoussetteI think I might have been the only person on the thread to reference P Margaret, and all I was saying about P Margaret was that she was included in a three part documentary currently on ITV player.

No comparison to anyone at all or link to any tother cent anything.

ArriettyJones · 21/04/2020 19:13

No comparison to anyone or link to recent anything at all, that should read.

DioneTheDiabolist · 21/04/2020 19:19

It’s another misstep by the Sussexes.

Everything that they do is reported as a misstep. The press here will slag them off no matter what they do. They even had a go because M Sussex touched her bump during pregnancy.Confused

The british media are hounding Harry, just as they hounded his mother.

Roussette · 21/04/2020 19:19

I'm just saying PMargaret was far far worse . How times have changed.

CallmeAngelina · 21/04/2020 19:20

So, you're complaining that people are wrongly maligning Meghan, yet you are happy to post that about Princess Margaret when actually, you have no real knowledge of what she was like either?

Most of the frustrations the British public are expressing about Meghan (and Harry) are to do with their actions, which are in danger of causing real damage to the Monarchy with the disrespect they are showing. Princess Margaret (and she may have been a complete bitch, who knows?) is a different matter altogether.

Roussette · 21/04/2020 19:24

I think people knew but with no social media there was a lot of lag in reporting it. No real knowledge? There is plenty out there. From people who knew her, worked with her etc. Do we on here have 'real knowledge' about MM?

PMargaret did IMHO immense damage to the RF but she was lucky enough to live in a time without SM to tear her apart.

I've said it countless times, there is nothing that H&M could do that would be right for some people. Nothing.

ArriettyJones · 21/04/2020 19:25

I actually agree with you there @CallmeAngelina

All this insistence that this is the positive thread and everyone must be Pollyanna, then - wham - out of nowhere we get:

Margaret. She was a pretty horrible person who flaunted affairs, was much disliked, she treated both friends and staff like shit, but...

(And about someone who hadn’t even been brought into the H&M discussion!)

Roussette · 21/04/2020 19:27

She was mentioned on here. I skimmed the thread.

H&M are not perfect but OTOH are not as bad as painted by some.

ArriettyJones · 21/04/2020 19:28

I think people knew but with no social media there was a lot of lag in reporting it. No real knowledge? There is plenty out there. From people who knew her, worked with her etc. Do we on here have 'real knowledge' about MM?

Without getting into details about any individual in particular, I think what tends to happen is that all those off the record sources, hints and whispers solidify over the years, first into biography and then into history. A proportion of stuff gets disproved. Most of it gets substantiated to one degree or an other.

Roussette · 21/04/2020 19:29

Do not understand why those that can't stand the couple, who want to paint them in the worst light possible don't let off steam on the 'hidden' thread. That is like minded people.

Roussette · 21/04/2020 19:31

Whatever you say Arrietty
I'm old, I remember her at the time. Even I was pretty shocked at the time with some of the things she got up to. But hey... this is about H&M so I'll leave it there.

ArriettyJones · 21/04/2020 19:32

She was mentioned on here. I skimmed the thread.

Yes I mentioned her at the end of a list of royals who were covered in a documentary.

I have just searched the whole page for “Margaret”. That’s the only mention. Until your diatribe against her character. (My pages are set to run up to 500 posts.)

Roussette · 21/04/2020 19:36

Got the message Arrietty but it does put the case that there have been royals before who have been far worse and not slated like these two are.

CallmeAngelina · 21/04/2020 19:37

I don't think Meghan is a terrible person, by any stretch. She doesn't get up in the morning and plot how she's going to kill kittens.
But that doesn't mean I can't be appalled at what has transpired now, and the damage they're doing (not least, to themselves) with every ill-conceived statement they release.
Just. Stop.
