Others have done this too and it's usually just after one cheats and just before the marriage fails.

I hope they are not stupid enough to renew their wows. Like, the first wedding, they must have felt like Britney spears when she woke up in 2007

I do think the “family she never had” comment was rude and cruel. If that had been my daughter I would have been incredibly upset. She has a mother she sees, and a father who brought her up through secondary school and beyond, who supported her and helped her in her career. (There were also other wider family members who said they had helped her and were unhappy at not being invited to the wedding, on her mother’s side)
. It must have been the narrative between them or Harry would never have said it.
The whole thing is so strange. It is odd to have a huge church wedding with no wider family at all. It does make me wonder if the narrative of her life would have been contradicted somehow , had people met other family members ? Most families have a rogue uncle somewhere etc, it isn’t something unusual, I am sure even tricky relations could have been managed, so why the huge drama, no family apart from Doria ?
They could have had a much smaller and simpler ceremony, which would have made it all less glaringly obvious, and also been more appropriate for a second marriage in another religion. I don’t understand it at all.
I also agree that TM seems a man who has been badly hurt, he is quite macho and very American male in his manner and pride. They have really burnt their bridges in so many ways.

@Mummyoflittledragon - who renews their vows after only a year? Is it from the 'how to get attention 101' playbook that the 'slebs seem to use to keep themselves in the red tops and Hello-type magazines?

All hooey most likely - but you never know... They PRs haven't exactly been steering them well so far (or maybe they have but have been ignored). PRs aren't cheap either...

What also strikes me is how well Kate & her family compare.

No one, but no one, understands or cares about royal etiquette more than the British middle classes. It's arguably why the marriages that seem to have worked out involved sensible upwardly mobile middle-class types - Kate, Sophie, Camilla, Mike Tindall. Their families knew the drill, learned from early mistakes, silenced embarrassing Uncle Ron, quietly pocketed the long-loan Land Rover, got on with it.

The obvious exception to this is Fergie, but for all her carry-on she does genuinely seem to love the odious Andrew, and her daughters come across as relatively well-adjusted, despite the pretty vile piss-taking directed at them on and off over the years.

The photo of Louis hugging Charles is just gorgeous. I also love the pictures taken by Kate with Louis eventually ending up with his face covered in paint.
I wonder how K and W will guide Louis in the future. His brother is the future king and I can imagine Charlotte turning into an attractive and charming young lady. Where will Louis stand? I hope K and W guide him to having a 'normal' life.

LeaveitBarbara I'm not sure that either Camilla or Sarah F are what I would call middle class, Sarah and Andrew were friends as children so her parents must have mixed in the same circles as the royal family, and I think Camilla's social circles were similar growing up? Also, Camilla's maiden name is Shand and Diana's step father was Shand Kydd, I don't know if they were related but I think they were quite an insulated group up until this century. But yes, the more successful marriages seem to be since the queen's grandchildren started to 'marry out'.

I am confused on the not engaging with the tabloids stance. MM wants to resume her acting career and now she has a royal title (kind of) is expecting something A list worthy from Hollywood. But, how can she promote any film she appears in if she refuses to engage with the popular press in the UK? And it's not as though she can pop onto GMB for a nice promotional chat with Piers instead. The list of blacklisted press will get longer with every negative story and there isn't anything good to say about them. I am not sure she has thought this through, even proper A list actors are expected to put up with all kinds of crap to promote their work.

Camilla and Fergie are from the “County Set”, ie Uber posh but without the titles. There are lots of them near where I live. Believe me, they are not like you and I.

Kate is upper middle class and Sophie is lower upper middle class. It is very complicated. Put a foot wrong and you’re dead.

And cake, you are so right. The media (newspapers especially) may trash each other for sales but they stick together like glue. Woo one, woo them all. Wound one, wound them all.

EthelMayFergus yes, you're absolutely right - isn't Camilla directly related to Alice Keppel? Doh. Totally wrong! I think I was trying to find a way of grouping spouses who really knew the rules of engagement beforehand because they were outside looking in, but you don't get further in than that!

That's a lovely picture of Charles with Louis, I thought he was a loving father too when the boys were growing up. The press made him out to be a cold fish but I don't remember Diana criticising him as a father, just as a husband.
