Royals and American media coverage

ButteryPuffin · 04/04/2020 23:50

Saw this cover posted on Twitter and noted that it seems the tabloids do indeed exist in the US (amazing, huh?). This is pretty much what you'd expect from the source, and I think it's pretty deplorable, but I am interested to see how the American media in general cover the presence of the former royals who've now arrived to make their home there. Of course we can discuss their coverage of other Royals too and related topics. All welcome.

Link to cover story - please note I'm not endorsing it, I'm just sharing it:

She’s so much like her Dad. Attitude wise. I quite like both of them.

ArchePenguin · 16/04/2020 08:10

So when she says that the younger Royals have a lot to learn, is she including WAK into this statement?

mathanxiety · 16/04/2020 08:17

Did she say anything about how much her son earned from using his royal connections to flog milk in China?

ArriettyJones · 16/04/2020 08:19

I’m guessing not, @ArchePenguin but who knows? She wasn’t a Diana fan either, was she?

It’s a strange family business they’re all in and when the joiners stopped being other royalty and started being beautiful commoners it shifted something.

Harry has embarked on some videocall “visiting” of UK citizens in the last 24 apparently. So maybe aitch really is a bit slow to learn and hasn’t realise that he is not royal any longer. Unless this is him Archewelling by stealth Confused

CallmeAngelina · 16/04/2020 08:33

I cannot imagine two more different people than Anne and Diana.
Or Anne and Meghan for that matter.

Wheresthebeach · 16/04/2020 09:17

I like her comment about putting in 10 years work before feeling she knew enough to speak publicly on a charities behalf.

7Worfs · 16/04/2020 10:05

beach yes, that caught my attention too.

NameChangeInfinite · 16/04/2020 12:28

HaM have apparently “secretly” donated food during lockdown.

Hmmm. Not much of a secret anymore!

Lordfrontpaw · 16/04/2020 12:33

Most people have donated to food banks. And not 'not secretly' either...

CallmeAngelina · 16/04/2020 12:38

There's zoom (?) footage of a meeting he was in with a charity.
Couldn't help wondering a) when he last brushed his hair and, b) when on earth his kitchen cabinets were fitted.

alliwantisagoodnightssleep · 16/04/2020 13:20

Apparently H, A and M have been rolling around the floor hysterically laughing. Yeah, laughing at us poor schmucks still picking up the tab for them. I’m no longer clicking on stories about these two imbeciles as my blood pressure can’t take it😡

TimeLady · 16/04/2020 13:23

I’m not sure he’s going to be an asset for such charities: mainly negative comments; I particularly liked “ After seeing our war hero raise 11 million pounds, it kind of puts Harry's efforts to shame.”

MissEliza · 16/04/2020 13:46

I have noticed lots of pictures of Eugenie and Fergie on 'secret' trips to donate food to NHS staff. I'd like to think this isn't a cynical attempt to endear the Yorks to the public but the very fact that we're seeing photos in the media suggests otherwise.

TimeLady · 16/04/2020 13:56

They roped the Grand Old Duke of York into the photo ops too. I bet the rest of the RF find that hysterical Grin.

RosesandIris · 16/04/2020 13:57

After seeing our war hero raise 11 million pounds, it kind of puts Harry's efforts to shame.”

Yes, absolutely.
The stuff about them rolling round the floor laughing hysterically.. again, just totally crass and tone deaf.

Lordfrontpaw · 16/04/2020 14:18

They come across as spoiled and entitled and just need to try keeping their heads down for a while. All that 'focussing on family' they were banging on about.

Obviously, I have never met them or know what they are really like, but this is how they come across - even the media they are directing.

7Worfs · 16/04/2020 14:20

Most of the direct quotes from that call made me Hmm
The way he’s expressing himself and choice of words was... odd.

Lordfrontpaw · 16/04/2020 14:29

Scripted maybe?

7Worfs · 16/04/2020 14:46

Who knows, maybe MM ‘helped’ with some stock phrases Grin

It looked to me a bit of a mix between verbose platitudes towards the carers and then awkward phrasing when talking about their family time, like he was trying to portray a certain image that’s not quite truthful.

lizzie1970a · 16/04/2020 17:39

Is LA humid? His hair looks like mine in high humidity - frizzy Grin

Lordfrontpaw · 16/04/2020 17:46

He’s going to burn like crispy bacon (as my sister with similar colouring says she did when she moved out there).

ArriettyJones · 16/04/2020 17:59

He’ll have to cowash it until a Brazilian blow dry can be arranged Smile

Winterlife · 16/04/2020 20:15

Is LA humid?

No, it isn't.

He looks quite sloppy. I also think as he is still a royal, that he shouldn't be commenting on what the government has, or has not done. If he wants that privilege, he should give up his titles.

RosesandIris · 16/04/2020 20:43

Especially when he doesn’t bloody live in the UK anymore!
