Royals and American media coverage

Saw this cover posted on Twitter and noted that it seems the tabloids do indeed exist in the US (amazing, huh?). This is pretty much what you'd expect from the source, and I think it's pretty deplorable, but I am interested to see how the American media in general cover the presence of the former royals who've now arrived to make their home there. Of course we can discuss their coverage of other Royals too and related topics. All welcome.

Link to cover story - please note I'm not endorsing it, I'm just sharing it:

Boo fecking hoo hoo. The pampered “prince” is finding life difficult in LA. Just let me see if I can conjure up some sympathy for him. Nope, sorry can’t find any. All my sympathies are reserved for the people coping with the effects and tragedies of the GLOBAL PANDEMIC we are facing. What a waste of space he is. Why doesn’t he come back to the UK and drive an ambulance like the rest of his military brethren.

CallmeAngelina · 14/04/2020 12:17

Because he's "focusing on his family," alliwant. Hmm
As if the rest of us don't give a shit about ours.

TimeLady · 14/04/2020 12:24

It’d be interesting to know if Jane Goodall gave that quote with the Sussexes’ approval, because it’s clearly opened them up to more ridicule about their seemingly perpetual whinging - and if it wasn’t approved, I guess she might be off their Christmas card list now Grin

ArchePenguin · 14/04/2020 13:03

Oh dear, what a troubled man he is.

OVienna · 14/04/2020 13:30

What I don't get about her and the hunting - she knew he did this? Let's see how many ways we can change the person we've married. Because we can? Was that part of it? A control thing? The satisfaction of getting your way.

Still, on balance I think he's had to have been up for it though.

The primatologist also revealed that Harry “hinted” at his wish to leave the royal family months before the couple made their public announcement.

Comes back to the same old question, which I agree we've been going round in circles on. GO THEN! Why on earth launch a website/new venture with the status you're supposedly so keen to drop at the cornerstone of your 'new' life??? Then get pissed you can't do it.

H&M's apologists have never been able to come back with an explanation for why any of it makes sense. The posters here, the few sympathetic articles, just refer in some way to the limits of the role and to wanting to be free. Yes, to do as they want, seemingly, any old time.

What they wanted was an open relationship.

I hope someone calls time on this serious bollocks soon and they are made to really get on with it, on their own steam without external support.

ArchePenguin · 14/04/2020 13:47

Well, I know there is a lot of shooting in LA, but is there much fox hunting? It’s like taking a Penguin to the Arctic and telling not to sunbathe.

OVienna · 14/04/2020 14:22

Lol

FannyFernackerpan · 14/04/2020 14:25

"So people don’t need to curtesy/bow to them any more? Joe Public can put their hand on their shoulder and call them ‘mate’? Their builder can get into a yelling row with them face to face over a disputed bill and tell them ‘you’re an idiot - I’ll see you in court’?"

There will be plenty of sycophants in Hollywood willing to bow and scrape.

Lordfrontpaw · 14/04/2020 14:37

And there will be plenty who won't!

7Worfs · 14/04/2020 14:44

Not sure they’ll have a fawning crowd. HAM don’t have the pull to attract true A list and I doubt Megs wants Z list dregs hanging about.

Lordfrontpaw · 14/04/2020 15:03

"Great party, nice turnout... oh god, don't look now - it's the Windsors... they'll be after a job or a villa... don't catch their eye whatever you do... shiiiii... Oh hi! Megz mwah-mwah, hi Hazza mwah-mwah, just talking about you! Sorry we can't stop and chat, we are just on out way to the...errr... that thing ...you know...the thing Amal..."

7Worfs · 14/04/2020 15:04

GrinGrin

RosesandIris · 14/04/2020 17:01

😁😁
Harry is used to people pretending he matters desperately. He won’t know how to handle that.

ArchePenguin · 14/04/2020 17:44

Rofl 🤣

ArchePenguin · 14/04/2020 17:47

I still think this song is the most appropriate thing Aitch should be listening to at the moment.

Has anyone read this interview with PA in Vanity Fair? Ouch!

Thanks for the link, great interview and that cover photo is fantastic.

Place marking

‘Please do not reinvent that particular wheel. We’ve been there, done that. Some of these things don’t work. You may need to go back to basics.’ ”

Anne from the VF article - I've always had a lot of time for her.

MrsJakeLovell · 15/04/2020 22:21

Yes - and she looks amazing on that cover photo.

MissHoskins · 15/04/2020 23:20

In the New Yorker article Meghan was repeatedly referred to as Markle, that lack of respect is usually levelled at popularly unpleasant people, Thatcher is one that springs to mind.
It's a shame, and I think that it's quite sad. As been said here several times their life could have been very different and possibly much better but they bit the hand that feeds them.
And the hand bit back. No more Royal Sussex for them

Winterlife · 15/04/2020 23:54

That style of address is not unusual in North America, MissHoskins.

StartupRepair · 16/04/2020 00:09

Yes, I think it more professional than dismissive to refer to her as Markle.

Needmoresleep · 16/04/2020 00:28

Clever of Vanity Fair. They use Anne to demonstrate what royal life involves. Different from celebrity.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 16/04/2020 07:17

Fabulous photo of Anne. She said something quite cutting about MM didn't she? Along the lines of "she has a lot to say about a great many things". I get the impression from that she thinks MM is a bit of an empty vessel.
