Royals and American media coverage

ButteryPuffin · 04/04/2020 23:50

Saw this cover posted on Twitter and noted that it seems the tabloids do indeed exist in the US (amazing, huh?). This is pretty much what you'd expect from the source, and I think it's pretty deplorable, but I am interested to see how the American media in general cover the presence of the former royals who've now arrived to make their home there. Of course we can discuss their coverage of other Royals too and related topics. All welcome.

Link to cover story - please note I'm not endorsing it, I'm just sharing it:

Yes but they have the money to go to a psychotherapist every day privately if they want to. They both have friends to talk to and family. It’s completely inappropriate to use a publicly funded visit which is their JOB to air their own problems. You are just being in necessarily obtuse math

RosesandIris · 12/04/2020 10:00

Unnecessarily

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 12/04/2020 10:01

A "body language expert" no less

You obviously don't know who Dr Judi James is. I'm not her biggest fan but yes, she is an expert.

Maybe if they had held off until safely back in England nobody in Africa would ever have heard their remarks?

This comment is bizarre. The documentary was aired on their return from SA. The only audience who heard the comments when they were actually spoken was Tom Bradby and a camera crew.

7Worfs · 12/04/2020 10:02

Yes to complaining while on the job!
MH issues need taking care of, but it’s not unreasonable expectation to separate it from work.
If plebs like us can pull it together and don’t hijack the end of a business meeting to talk about personal struggles, then so can HAM.

derxa · 12/04/2020 10:05

That is a pity, because money doesn't insulate anyone from the pain of mental health problems. Everybody knows this surely. However this wasn't the time to discuss mental health. The poorest in South Africa are barely surviving never mind thriving. Can't you see that?

CanIHaveAPenguinPlease · 12/04/2020 10:16

For some strange reason I don’t think math does. They were working. It was completely inappropriate to discuss that were surviving not thriving where some people barely know where their next meal is coming from.

I come from a very poor family originally. It would have been like my richest relatives coming & gloating to me about their caviar sandwich when I could only have afforded cheese for example. Surely you must understand that.

Lordfrontpaw · 12/04/2020 10:28

You want people who come to visit to empathise with your plight - not whinge and try to make you feel the need to ask ‘awwww, y’alright?’.

Can you imagine the queen turning up somewhere and bitching about her shoes pinching, her arthritis, her kids, and working at 94?

Royal job - turn up, smile, be polite, shake hands, politely accept any gift as if if the best thing ever, smile at babies/small children, and try to make people feel happy that you came to see them.

Moving away from book lined studies for a bit I just saw this:

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle 'buy Mel Gibson's £12million mansion'
mol.im/a/8211711

If true, there's no way they will live with that interior, so they're going to need a few million dollars to remodel it. PC will be having to dig down the back of the sofa at this rate.

Froq · 12/04/2020 10:40

£12 million?! With whose money??

That wouldn’t be a smart move whilst we’re still waiting for them to pay back froggy. A generous donation to the NHS wouldn’t go amiss either.

Their new Instagram... www.instagram.com/archewellglobal/?utm_source=ig_embed&ig_mid=5108F0F4-9EC6-4D2D-8F87-E130CCE9250E ?

Lordfrontpaw · 12/04/2020 10:40

They don’t have that much money to buy and maintain that house - and earning potential isn’t high enough to keep it up either.

I think they have overstretched themselves and will be going to daddy for pocket money.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 12/04/2020 10:48

Is that definitely theirs froq? I'd expect it to be followed by at least one of the official royal accounts in support.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 12/04/2020 10:55

They do have money, let's not forget. H alone is a multi millionaire.

He must have substantial income from invested capital, so they would certainly be able to cover their current living expenses. They aren't exactly doing anything, I imagine their biggest outgoings would be staff, takeaways and Netflix.

I expect they blagged a freebie subscription to Disney Plus.

Froq · 12/04/2020 11:06

I’m not sure, fleas. If not it’s a good copy of their ‘pinch another post and throw in some extra word salad’ style of posting.

If it is them I’d expect the first post to confirm that it is the official account and to ignore everything else though, as they did with their royal website.

alliwantisagoodnightssleep · 12/04/2020 11:08

Archewell GLOBAL. So much more special than just Royal. Says a lot about who they think they are.

thecognoscenti · 12/04/2020 11:35

There are quite a few Instagram accounts now named some variation of Archewell Foundation. I'm not convinced that any are real; if and when they do roll out the official account, I'd very much expect a press release about it. However - they've really dropped a bollock announcing the name without securing the Insta account first, because all the obvious names are now taken by spurious accounts. Oops

alliwantisagoodnightssleep · 12/04/2020 11:41

cognoscenti they do have form for taking people’s Instagram handles so if they want it they will probably get it.

ButteryPuffin · 12/04/2020 12:07

Love the comment 'there's nothing like it on the market' in that article about the Mel Gibson house. True, they will want different decor, though with it done to your own taste it would be fabulous. BUT once again, who will actually be handing over this 12 million? Bank of (Harry's) Dad, it seems. Plus how much will it cost him to buy their chosen Instagram name from whoever's nipped in first?

There is no blue tick. It needs a blue tick.

Jillyhilly · 12/04/2020 15:00

No matter who you are, I don’t get how you can just one day decide to set up a big global charity. It seems the wrong way round. Don’t these things normally start small and grow from there?

SenecaFallsRedux · 12/04/2020 15:14

math is obviously prepared to sit, hammering away at a keyboard in their "book-lined study" or wherever, batting away for HaM.

Only in response to posters on this thread and its predecessors who sit hammering away bashing Harry, and especially Meghan, thread after thread.

ArchePenguin · 12/04/2020 15:17

Well, let’s see what they have to say later, heh?

Hamsterian · 12/04/2020 15:27

I can’t believe they have launched the thing without getting Instagram sorted first. And don’t tell me it was because they were “compelled” to launch it because of the Telegraph! As if it is some sort of big reveal.
It is quite clear she is sticking her tongue out, who licks their lips that way? Not that I care that she stuck it out or not, but what a ridiculous explanation “licking her lips” 🤣

Lordfrontpaw · 12/04/2020 15:37

I remember a large agency rebranding and launching with a large hoo ha.

Unfortunately they didn’t secure their url and someone got there first and quickly set up a webpage that - from memory - had dancing donkeys wearing sombreros.

Marketing 101 - bagsey your name and variations on social media/urls pronto.

Is it me or have all these threads gone quiet or inactive?
