Royals and American media coverage

ButteryPuffin · 04/04/2020 23:50

Saw this cover posted on Twitter and noted that it seems the tabloids do indeed exist in the US (amazing, huh?). This is pretty much what you'd expect from the source, and I think it's pretty deplorable, but I am interested to see how the American media in general cover the presence of the former royals who've now arrived to make their home there. Of course we can discuss their coverage of other Royals too and related topics. All welcome.

Link to cover story - please note I'm not endorsing it, I'm just sharing it:

Now, you know I meant you and your "(book-lined) shelves".
Be off with you and your faux-naïf post

Hopefully you also know what I was referencing when I mentioned my (book lined) shelves.

I'll faux-naïf away right here, thanks. It's a free society after all.

TheMustressMhor · 09/04/2020 19:26

Ugh.

I do not want to think about scorpions, in or outside books.

OVienna · 09/04/2020 19:27

Mustress, I signed up to your blog! Looking fwd.

OVienna · 09/04/2020 19:29

I am almost feeling cheerful this evening, seeing as we have not one but two Bank Holidays. Not sure what I'll do, mind.

HarryDaylight · 09/04/2020 19:29

How unpleasant. It's a form of bullying to be nasty to other posters.

mathanxiety · 09/04/2020 19:32

@ButteryPuffin

I have said the DM is a rag and that it wouldn't survive except as bog roll if not for the bum and tit pics. Also that it's a danger to democracy - its contribution to the fake news genre, to the concept of fake news itself, and thus to the breakdown of trust in society's institutions is noteworthy.

But where have I said I boycott it?

Ilovellamasandpenguins · 09/04/2020 19:34

O Vienna - everyday feels like a bank holiday here at the moment. But the next few days can be filled with eating chocolate eggs - so that makes a change.

Mustress - I have signed up for your blog.

alliwantisagoodnightssleep · 09/04/2020 19:35

I thought you said you were leaving or did I misunderstand?

mathanxiety · 09/04/2020 19:36

HarryDaylight
It means scornful, contemptuous, derisive, derisory.

alliwantisagoodnightssleep · 09/04/2020 19:36

I can’t wait to use that in scrabble tomorrow! I wish I was as smart as you.

mathanxiety · 09/04/2020 19:41

Dictionaries are amazing. I have one.

HarryDaylight · 09/04/2020 19:41

Thank you, mathanxiety

I knew.

I just wondered if you knew how aggressively unpleasant a word it is, as you have used it several times.

HarryDaylight · 09/04/2020 19:42

Yeah, in your book lined shelves.Grin

alliwantisagoodnightssleep · 09/04/2020 19:42

I think I will just sob from now on. It’s better that way.

mathanxiety · 09/04/2020 19:42

Nothing happens in a vacuum, HarryDaylight.

BarleylemonPenguin · 09/04/2020 19:43

Thanks for a much-needed laugh. This thread is keeping me sane.

Yeah, in your book lined shelves

Au contraire - I keep it to hand at all times.

HarryDaylight · 09/04/2020 19:45

Thank you again, mathanxiety

Soooo... media coverage. What are the headlines in the US? Bear

LaMarschallin · 09/04/2020 20:07

Have to admit that I was a bit dubious about Premium Mumsnet but, I must admit, the "Hide poster" button is well worth it.

7Penguins · 09/04/2020 20:11

There's a hide poster button??

Soooo... media coverage. What are the headlines in the US?

All were about their new endeavor, and the redirect of golddigger. There is no sympathy for them. But really, not much beyond that. I think if they keep a low profile, they'll stay out of US media.

mathanxiety · 09/04/2020 20:20

Speaking of 'unpleasant', did you read here that Meghan Markle's blog was called 'The Tig' because she didn't know the G in Tignanello was silent?

Oh the irony of preaching about totalitarianism while at the same time making snide remarks about someone not to the manor born not knowing how to pronounce the name of an expensive wine. Looking down on others, loosening of the stays of civility when speaking of others, othering in general - remind me again about the dangers of that...

And is this what you might call double irony?
“Several years ago I had a sip of wine called Tignanello (pronounced ‘teen-ya-nello’). But let’s be real – in the states most people said ‘tig-na-nello’… or just plain old ‘Tig.’

7Penguins · 09/04/2020 20:23

Meg's 'low profile' usually includes a pap walk and an Insta post. Grin
