Why do HARRY and MEGHAN write their INSTAGRAM posts with this WEIRD mix of words in block CAPITALS and others in standard script? It's very ODD.

We're all equally BAFFLED, Barleylemon. There seems to have been no EXPLANATION.

AllTheLittlePenguinsRiseUp · 03/04/2020 13:34

Ooooh, Dandy!

I think we're all interested - even us lurkers

When I first saw this new thread, I thought it was going to be a guide for how we're supposed to write to comment on La Royales to avoid getting deleted Blush

HarryDaylight · 03/04/2020 13:42

What happened on the last thread? I was happily reading the link about what Hollywood Harry means in LA, which is really quite nasty, and then the thread went caput.

DandyPenguin · 03/04/2020 13:48

Ha @AllTheLittlePenguinsRiseUp I’m not posting it openly here, don’t want to run the risk of breaking talk guidelines.

AllTheLittlePenguinsRiseUp · 03/04/2020 13:54

Fair enough, Dandy Grin

Myimaginarypenguinhasfleas · 03/04/2020 13:56

The talk guidelines are regularly broken by one or two hostile posters, with the aim of getting the threads deleted. Eventually, MNHQ will cotton on. In the meantime we just have to rise above.

BelleharePenguin09 · 03/04/2020 13:57

Why don’t they support Priti?

CallmeAngelina · 03/04/2020 14:29

Dandy, could you PM me too, please?
How many fish is it worth?

Needmoresleep · 03/04/2020 15:20

I lurked on the old thread. Some really amusing posts.

My theory. Archie was having teething/weaning/sleeping problems so Meghan nipped over to MN for a few tips...and did not like what she saw.

Myimaginarypenguinhasfleas · 03/04/2020 15:42

DM quote (sorry)

According to an insider the father-of-one feels 'helpless', and is trying to keep regular contact with Charles and the Queen, but the time difference is making it difficult.

LA must be further away than I thought. I assumed it was on planet Earth.

AllTheLittlePenguinsRiseUp · 03/04/2020 16:17

Struggling because he might have to stay up a bit late to make a call?

So they're still not taking advice. Confused People dying in their 1000s globally and HaM are trying for sympathy. Haven't their 'sources' suggested that the duo might do themselves a favour if they just shut up?

Back to OPs original comment on comms style -

Now that they have a team of Hollywood PR professionals, do you think HaM will let them to take over managing their IG, social media, any media?

The duo had money and resources thrown at them in the UK and a team of professionals who could have helped them avoid a lot of the flack they brought on themselves. They chose to reject it.

Misplaced arrogance or a bit of control-freaking?

Will be really interesting to see what the new IG is like.

Winterlife · 03/04/2020 16:51

The time difference shouldn’t really matter. One can call at say, 10:00 am and it’s 7:00 pm in the U.K. Or call at 10:00 pm and it’s 7:00 am in the U.K.

I think that’s just an excuse.

On the other issue, there may be hired PR teams that derail anything they deem negative. I know that happens elsewhere. On unmoderated forums, they will post to change the subject completely. I think it depends on the size of the forum.

Jaggerypokery · 03/04/2020 17:00

Can’t understand why the last thread got pulled. I could see it had been derailed by a couple of posters intent on proving that having a thread about H&M while they are in stasis and doing bugger all proves we are all following some sort of racist agenda and don’t have lives. I’m not a racist but have to admit I do not have much of a life right now and discussing the royals is a welcome distraction from the life I do have.

BelleharePenguin09 · 03/04/2020 17:32

Yes, unfortunately, there are certain people who come into threads like this decrying all and sundry as racist and / or lazy. That sort of behaviour is totally unacceptable. Threads which are a distraction, at this very worrying time, for many users of the site, are removed as a consequence.

BelleharePenguin09 · 03/04/2020 17:33

come onto

PenguinOrHippo · 03/04/2020 19:34

I think it is sad. As you say, some threads with regular posters become a source of comfort in a worrying time.

I think it is a combination of several things...

  1. under UK law, you should report something as racism if YOU perceive it to be (not if a rational person perceives it to be).

  2. there are some awful posters out there who clearly post horrific, racist things

  3. some posters may have come across racism in real life, so have a heightened awareness of this - and then come across the awful posts.

  4. the sensitive person believes that all posts are racist and verbalise this

  5. the normal posters get horrified and annoyed at being labelled racists for commenting on actions.

  6. as everyone is under an awful amount of stress at the moment, nobody has any patience, including MQH, everyone hates each other - and the thread gets pulled.

It is such a shame. I have taken so much comfort from these threads, loved the diversions into succession and tiaras and generally reading everyone’s input. It has been many sleepless nights this spring.

Jaggerypokery · 03/04/2020 19:43

PenguinOrHippo totally agree with you. I’m from an immigrant family and have been on the receiving end of racism. I haven’t seen racism towards Meghan on these threads. People have called out her opportunism, tackiness and unwillingness to do the boring royal duties and her hypocritical preachiness. Wouldn’t matter what colour she was those things are bloody annoying and are rightly being challenged.

ButteryPuffin · 03/04/2020 20:11

Folks, I'm very much with you on this, and have lots I would like to say about the disturbing turn towards protecting the rich being taken in this, but we'll be deleted for being a thread about a thread (TAAT) if we do much more of this. Let's not create that opening for anyone.

There has actually been a high level of interest from the media lately because of the Sussexes' last days as senior royals, and also their statements about the future of their Instagram account. I don't know too much about Instagram but it had been said that they couldn't port their followers over to another account without special permission which Instagram wouldn't give? So the question is now whether they have a fallow period where they can think carefully about future branding, or whether they will want to launch a new account fairly quickly and look to make that available to their existing followers while they are still fresh in the memory.

Jaggerypokery · 03/04/2020 20:21

I’m not sure about the porting Ig followers over situation. I know they were rumoured to have asked to be allowed to given they’re exceptional but have no idea if they’ve been refused or if they’re still considering it.

If they did start a new Ig then what on earth could they put on it at the moment that wouldn’t get people’s backs up further? They can’t give talks in person, they can’t do anything other than offer up trite statements really.

AllTheLittlePenguinsRiseUp · 03/04/2020 21:04

This is it Jaggery

If they had anything of substance to say, if they did anything meaningful themselves, not just standing on the back of other peoples' work, the self aggrandising trite on IG wouldn't grate quite so much.

I don't think you're allowed to port followers on IG anymore, so HaM will have to start from scratch. And anything they post is going to have to be good to build up 11million followers again.

Myimaginarypenguinhasfleas · 03/04/2020 21:23

I may be missing something but I don't see the problem. Surely people will just follow the new IG account? They just have to post details on the old one and anyone actively following will move with them.

LilyMumsnet · 03/04/2020 21:29

Hi folks

If this thread becomes a TAAT, we will have to take it down...

Jaggerypokery · 03/04/2020 21:30

You’re definitely not allowed to port followers on ig but they were saying they’re a special case and asking for them to make an exception. Do we know if this was refused? Long distance virtual claps to the UK NHS staff and other such nonsense will just piss everyone off it they keep it up. They don’t seem to want to actually get out into society and do anything practical to help which would, as you say AllTheLitttle, make their virtual virtue signalling less irritating.

If they have bought followers on ig which judging by all the posts consisting of just ❤️❤️ Or 😘 seems to suggest they have, then it’s unlikely they’ll have 11 million following them on a new account. Unless they just buy more followers which I suppose is entirely possible.

ButteryPuffin · 03/04/2020 21:34

There will always be some slippage where existing followers don't see the message, or can't be bothered to click, or have lost interest. Anyone with a big following on social media will be aware of that and want to preserve it. It is likely to be important to them as their route to at least some of the income they hope to generate.

AllTheLittlePenguinsRiseUp · 03/04/2020 21:38

Yes, I suppose some people will follow for the sake of following once they announce their new account.

But it takes something substantial to get 11million real people (not bots! Shock) to follow you.

Maybe HaM will surprise us all by doing something. But what will that look like? People were interested because they were royal, doing interesting things only royal people get to do.
