Why do HARRY and MEGHAN write their INSTAGRAM posts with this WEIRD mix of words in block CAPITALS and others in standard script? It's very ODD.

...not that there’s a problem with activism per se, but the political arena is quite brutal and aggressive, verbally. You have to be able to take a lot of knocks. I’m not sure that either one is prepared for this. If you want to be a politician/activist and offer political perspectives, then it’s no hold barred. It seems that M does not want anyone to debate with her by offering a counterpoint while H....

CathyorClaire · 20/04/2020 20:47

She was always going to be vocal, whether married to a royal or to someone else.

If she'd married anyone else her voice would have got lost in general background chatter. She chose her platform wisely.

yoloPenguinsEatfish · 20/04/2020 21:34

Aw, but she LOVES and UNDERSTANDS elephants. DM online article is hilarious, and omg the comments... I dont think the pair of them have a clue about the real world, and what is about to happen when they hit court on Friday.

thenightsky · 20/04/2020 21:54

Are they in the UK for court on Friday then?

yoloPenguinsEatfish · 20/04/2020 21:57

thenightsky I think its being done via zoom, or whatever the techy peeps do...

Winterlife · 20/04/2020 23:57

@Myimaginarycathasfleas, exactly. HMQ has never, AFAIK, commented on a tabloid story, or on any press about her, positive or negative. She hasn't called out the press. There are no stories about her attempting to influence the, either, as there have been about Charles, and of course, Andrew's disastrous attempt.

Jillyhilly · 21/04/2020 07:51

Scathing article in the Telegraph today, absolutely vitriolic about The Couple, but suggesting that what goes down like a lead balloon over here will play out successfully in LA - and that there’s cynical PR genius behind this. No idea if that’s the case or not. To a certain extent I can see his point - the LA crowd may just see them like we’re home else - another couple of plucky grifters using everything they’ve got in an attempt to elbow their way into the big leagues.

The very effort of sending a letter to the UK’s most popular tabloids to tell them to get stuffed in the middle of a pandemic is proof of that. The backlash will play very well with in the US, for whom the Brits are always the snooty villains. One almost wonders if the letter reads as if composed by a West Coast arts graduate not because it was, but to rile the British media into reacting like aunts in full battle formation from a PG Wodehouse novel. Here, The Couple are the ridiculous ones, but over the pond, who seems out of touch?

But whilst this is happening, other, more important, bits of information from The Couple are seeping into focus, where once it would have been drowned out by literally any other piece of news. Who cares that Meghan is starring in a new Disney film? No one, but everyone now knows she is. How will this non-profit improve your life? It won’t, but you now know it exists.

CanIHaveAPenguinPlease · 21/04/2020 08:07

Interesting viewpoint Jilly from the telegraph.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 21/04/2020 08:11

God, I love this image:

Jillyhilly · 21/04/2020 08:23

CanIHaveAPenguin. It is an interesting perspective. I don’t really see “genius” in it myself, because a) I don’t think Harry’s up to that level of media chess-playing and b) Meghan wasn’t around anywhere near long enough to understand British culture, including the press. But who knows? I don’t know enough to understand how the game is played and it is indeed true that we do all now know about their wretched new charity and her movie.

And I can see that there is a certain attitude in the US whereby people accept you on face value, regardless of your background. It can be quite intoxicating and liberating to Brits, at least for a while. That’s what I found when I lived there, anyway! (But I was also very happy to come home). Maybe Harry will get something out of that.

LittleBearPad · 21/04/2020 08:24

The Times is similarly scathing.

Thanks for the link; I didn't spot that page!

7Worfs · 21/04/2020 09:50

Very interesting coverage, this sums it up nicely

The Sussexes are naive to suppose that in that line of work they can control or bully the media into positive coverage

Thank you for the share token, TimeLady Smile

MarginalGain · 21/04/2020 10:00

In the midst of a global pandemic, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have chosen to reheat that fight by telling editors of four tabloid national newspapers that they will never again deal with them.

Grin

What an absolute fuckup.

CathyorClaire · 21/04/2020 11:08

BP repoorted to be 'stunned' that H&M haven't taken any of their advice. I don't know why.
However I suspect it's closer to a distancing from the crazy move than reality.

And true to form they've upstaged yet another royal occasion even though it's thankfully been scaled back Hmm

ARoseInHarlem · 21/04/2020 14:19

I’ve been thinking about this statement. I don’t think they’re trying to bully the Sun, the Mail etc into positive coverage. I think they’re hoping for nothing from them. In reality, they’ve poked a sleeping bear. Keep friends close and enemies closer, better to have your foes inside the tent pissing out than the other way round etc. This is what the RF has always done, and the RF largely has the British press on its side. The trouble is that Harry thinks he’s extricated himself from the RF and can set his own agenda. But he hasn’t. All it takes is for the papers to threaten to print this or that about Andy or William and H&M will soon be brought to heel. Nobody is bigger than the truth, and H&M aren’t bigger than the institution of the monarchy.

I would never back the Mail, Sun, Mirror over anyone. They’re the absolute scum of the earth. H&M will come and go, the issue is what these tabloids are allowed to get away with. They can’t be allowed to print lies about anyone as truth - that’s basic stuff.

What’s staggering is H&M’s arrogance in thinking they can change the world, starting with the press. And they’re too immature to realise they’re better off cutting a deal.

This has got Harry written all over it. He’s coming across as fragile, petulant, besieged, arrogant, and very very damaged. It’s all adding up to something very tragic. The family needs to reel him in and protect him. He’s fighting impossible demons, in public, for all the world to see, and his father and brother are watching from afar. Just like Earl Spencer did with his sister.

April 6
Harry and Meghan launch their new brand. It will be called Archewell, they announce, after the Greek word for “source of action”. In the future they promise they will be doing “something of meaning, something that matters”. Nation looks up from worrying about whether the prime minister is going to die and the country is going bankrupt, to say: “Do keep us posted.”

This sums things up for me.

LaMarschallin · 21/04/2020 15:36

OVienna

I read that in the Times too - "It's Megxit, the First 100 Days". Very funny Smile

Looks like they'll have to stop talking to the Times as well. Wish I could put a link (bloody Times paywall), but I also rather liked these bits:

"January 19
Prince Harry explains how his life was so intolerable he had no choice but to quit. Nation looks at national flood emergency, widespread use of food banks and its empty current account and confirms it would be happy to have a crack at being royal instead."

"March 26
Prince Charles, aged 71, tests positive for coronavirus. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge release a video of their three young children clapping for NHS carers."

"March 27
Harry, Meghan and Archie fly by private jet from Canada to Los Angeles to start a new life in the middle of a global pandemic. Taken to task in the past for his use of private jets while championing climate change, Harry replies that he only did it occasionally and only then for security reasons.
Never, for example, because the border's about to closed to non-essential travel, there aren't any commercial flights, you're in a bit of a hurry, and have you flown commercial recently? Ick."

March 30
"The Sussex Royal social media accounts close down with the mysterious words 'You've been great!'
'We are confident that every human being has the potential and opportunity to make a difference,' they add. 'Together we can lift each other up to realise the fullness of that promise'. Nation tries and fails to understand what they're on about."

I don't think they were ever really going to get the uncritical reporting of their actions that they would have liked, but I suspect they're a lot less likely to get it now.

yoloPenguinsEatfish · 21/04/2020 17:30

That Times article was superb... but almost gentle in terms of what is really happening?

The COURT case is coming up and some of MEGHAN'S FRIENDS have said stuff to the press. Let's HOPE they no longer WISH to be friends, because if they still are/want to be all I can see is COVENTRY.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 21/04/2020 18:20

Nice work, yolo Grin

I'm also interested in these FRIENDS who weren't AUTHORISED to TALK to the MEDIA. I'm sure if they were to give EVIDENCE, UNDER OATH, things would be a lot CLEARER.Wink

CallmeAngelina · 21/04/2020 18:58

LOVE that Time article. It's deliciously perfect in its summary of the whole fucking car-crash.
Thanks for the share token.

Brilliant articles thank you for sharing.

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-8239183/Alex-Rodriguez-Jennifer-Lopez-eyeing-bid-buy-New-York-Mets.html

A-Rod and JLo were at the JP Morgan wealth management summit in Miami that Harry spoke at. This explains why. I’m sure there’s some truth in Harry turning to Hollywood glamour.

Ick. Hollywood is in thrall to Kate and William, as future King and Queen and as a couple who haven’t made themselves available to LA. There’s no way Harry won’t trade off his brother.
