Obviously the RF won’t pay, it will be the Met / Taxpayer
Cost is about £8m a year.
I can’t believe anyone thinks they should hav3 their security paid for.
Their titles need to go and so does their security.
Zara Tindall and Peter Phillips are grand children of the Queen and have no security.
Someone in the RF / government needs to grow a pair and leave a Meghan Markle and Harry Windsor to it.

Winterlife · 29/03/2020 21:55

@Mummy195 No, I don't despise them with a passion, I could never have a passion for them. But I do not like the fact that they are constantly getting a pass or being elevated and H&M get vitriol for doing the exact same things.*

Please provide examples of W&K getting elevated or getting a pass while H&M get vitriol for doing the exact same things.

I don't recall Kate seeking out, and smiling directly at the cameras.

I don't recall Kate asking that a section of Wimbledon be closed off to the minions.

I don't recall Kate asking her security to admonish Wimbledon spectators for "taking a photo of her" (which was not occurring, in any event).

I don't recall William giving speeches on climate change while taking a private jet to the events where said speech was given, or setting up a "sustainable" travel firm, while saying he would still take private jets when he considered it "necessary".

I don't recall William and Kate asking to leave the Royal Family and writing on their website that while they don't wish to fulfill royal duties (presumably for the benefit of taxpayers), they are "internationally protected persons" who are entitled to taxpayer funded security.

I don't recall William, as Colonel Chief of the Royal Marines, blowing off an event to commemorate the deaths of 11 marines in a terrorist bombing, in order to attend a glitzy movie premier. I also don't recall William ever hustling for work for Kate at any royal event.

I could go on, but you get the point.

If you can provide examples that would be most appreciated.

My shock is at him entering into the fray. When there’s been so many deaths from CV in the US on this day.

Trump always does this in his tweets. It means some US news show, probably on Fox, raised the issue. Trump watches TV news daily.

ButteryPuffin · 29/03/2020 22:03

Chris Ship the royal ITV correspondent has just retweeted Trump's message and followed it with:

A spokesperson for Harry and Meghan has just told us that “The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have no plans to ask the U.S. government for security resources. Privately funded security arrangements have been made.”

7Penguins · 29/03/2020 22:10

Privately funded security arrangements have been made

Excellent. Hopefully details will be publicised very soon.

StartupRepair · 29/03/2020 22:10

Hmm. That's carefully phrased.

MyOtherProfile · 29/03/2020 22:12

Sorry to butt in here. I'm not really a royal follower but I've just seen on the news H and M have left Canada for California. Can anyone briefly explain to me what's going on? Thought they were going to settle in Canada? And isn't it a bad time to move?

ButteryPuffin · 29/03/2020 22:14

Yes, carefully phrased to avoid any agency. They do not want to say who is paying.

It's one of those 'even a stopped clock tells the right time twice a day' with Trump. He's obviously wanting to make a statement that appeals to public sentiment after how terrible his handling of coronavirus has been. And he will resent everything they've previously said about him. He's correct that the US can't be expected to pay though and they know it.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 29/03/2020 22:17

Trump watches TV news daily

Given that state of much US TV news it's no wonder he looks deranged
If I see another MSNBC newscast made all about Rachel ruddy Maddow and Joe whatever his name is, I swear I'll scream Hmm

ohellnotagain · 29/03/2020 22:22

@MyOtherProfile Hollywood is in California. That's what M really wants, stardom.

Winterlife · 29/03/2020 22:22

Trump doesn’t watch MSNBC, as by US standards, it’s left wing.

Myimaginarypenguinhasfleas · 29/03/2020 22:24

That BC clip was excellent 7, and quite extraordinary.

They would never have expected the US to pay for their security. I'm interested to know what "privately funded security arrangements" means. Perhaps HMQ is picking up the tab.

MyOtherProfile · 29/03/2020 22:27

Thanks @ohellnotagain that makes sense. But why the palaver of moving to Canada first? Why not straight to Hollywood?

7Penguins · 29/03/2020 22:29

Assuming it’s not going to be RPOs, how much does local sleb security cost?

Let’s say each hired gun is paid 200k USD annually, and they need 9. That’s 1.8m, but let’s round it to 2m with expenses.

That’s two JP Morgan speeches a year for Haich. Easy peasy.

CallmeAngelina · 29/03/2020 22:29

I don't want the Queen to pick it up either!

I mean, what the fuck do they think they're playing at? Pissing off around the globe, without any consideration of the shit they've left behind, and without waiting to get all the myriad of arrangements confirmed, and with seemingly no care for the massive cost to the British people.

Wheresthebeach · 29/03/2020 22:30

It will be interesting- the RF will be aware of public sentiment, combined with the current crisis it would be a bad time to announce that the tax payers will cover this.

yoloPenguinsEatfish · 29/03/2020 22:33

Just been watching The Windsors, hilarious! It was the episode with K&W renewing their vows - I dont get the gipsy thing? but love Puppa and Evil Camilla

Becles · 29/03/2020 22:36

This is the person who thought the church she married in smelt so musty she needed scented candles

Given that Kate did the same for her wedding, it's a bit off to snipe at Meghan for assuming it was fine since Kate got to scent the Abbey with Orange Blossom in 2011. Hmm

DandyPenguin · 29/03/2020 22:39

It was Kate who wanted the scented candles.

Meghan wanted the church, which she said smelt “musty, to be sprayed with air freshener.

My brain isn’t working much with coronavirus but I’ve got a huge sense of deja vu here: did you say this yesterday is the other night too yolo? Confused

yoloPenguinsEatfish · 29/03/2020 22:44

dandy I may well have done Grin but I dont have the attention span to watch more than one or two at a time... just wonder how I missed it first time round and loving how it seems to play out against current activities.

thenightsky · 29/03/2020 22:50

That’s two JP Morgan speeches a year for Haich. Easy peasy

But he only has one speech Hmm

Alwayscheerful · 29/03/2020 22:52

@DandyPenguin

Diptique supplied candles for Kate & William's wedding, I saw a statement on the website.
Diptique don't sell air fresheners as such but their stores smell absolutely beautiful, I suspect they supply commercial diffusers to high end establishments. The domestic versions are £220 and are only suitable for small/medium rooms.
Candles are considered to be a fire hazard, I can see why diffusers might be considered a more sensible option.

DandyPenguin · 29/03/2020 23:00

I've just searched for it yolo as I thought I was going mad. I've been having the most vivid dreams, including last night dreaming that I wrote a long post on here that was so full of typos and mis-types that it made no sense Blush

It was last Saturday you wrote similar. I remember the comment about 'evil Camilla' and not understanding the gypsy thing.

I can't explain the gypsy thing as don't know about it either, I just assumed at some point it's been said that there is gypsy bloody in the Middleton family?
