Here's a follow on to the last thread, which was really enjoyable.

If it wasn't true, BP would be saying so in the strongest terms.

RosesandIris · 11/03/2020 15:34

Good to see some humour back in these threads!

DandyPenguin · 11/03/2020 15:37

Yes yolo both my and your first posts on this thread express feeling sorrow for Harry about it.

And as I repeat, I said serious stuff about it last night on the deleted thread, as did many other posters here.

The Navigator is entitled to selectively choose and interpret things how she likes. It would be nice if she did that without calling other posters pejorative terms but I guess doing that is her right too. Smile

CanIHaveATiaraPlease · 11/03/2020 15:44

Oh gosh - I’m getting so confused. I commented on the deleted thread that there is a special place in hell reserved for pranksters & am having to do it again now for the avoidance of doubt.

yolofish · 11/03/2020 15:48

My MIL played a cruel trick on DD1 one Christmas (fussy eater/food related). I've never forgiven her for it. We get on fine, but I know what she did.

I hate 'pranks' and practical jokes, like that awful programme that used to be on where they did stuff like dropping a 10 tonne truck in someone's newly landscaped garden. Don't Ant and Dec do stuff like that too?

I think trickery is cruel, but the tricksters think they're oh so clever and so funny, and if the trick-ee doesnt laugh then they are seen as a bad sport.

Penguins, OTOH, are bloody funny.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 11/03/2020 15:59

Catherine I don't think I've seen a thread with the title you mentioned, but maybe the mass derailers haven't got going on the reporting yet?

Though of course it depends what direction the "OTT remarks" are going in ...

Dongdingdong · 11/03/2020 16:02

Does security screen Harry’s phone calls?

Some people (close friends and family) will presumably have his direct line, but how would the pranksters have access to that? And surely his security would screen any calls from any unknown contacts and random numbers. You’d have thought.

TheNavigator · 11/03/2020 16:07

If you read back, I did not call anyone a pejorative term. That is not my style. I stand by my statement that hoax calls are vile. I cannot see a funny side and it is people that do who encourage such nasty hoaxes. Could you not just ignore the pranksters? They are doing it precisely to get attention and get people talking about the substance of the call.

yolofish · 11/03/2020 16:07

The pranksters are Russian, Mansion owner is Russian, they used the landline apparently. So possibly quite easy to obtain.

I thought that high net worth individuals all had like proper phone security etc but perhaps not.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 11/03/2020 16:17

I was one of those who didn't think it sounded like Harry, but actually that's a valid point and no doubt the palace are bouncing between Harry and the lawyers even as we type

FWIW I also agree that nobody in their right mind would admire this kind of "prank", but surely there's something to be said for having a bit of common sense and keeping schtum - especially when it's happened before?

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 11/03/2020 16:20

You said You do sound cold hearted laughing at a nasty prank

That is your style.

yolofish · 11/03/2020 16:22

Are the palace actually involved though I wonder?

I mean I know they are officially working royals til the end of this month, but I dont know how much the palace could/would do at this stage.

There doesnt seem much actual damage limitation for the palace to do, as its words directly from H own mouth (if it's real of course) and he would have to be responsible for them.

I guess it will come down to what else the Russians release (as I think they've said they will?), how much influence the palace has over publication or not and whether its worth it for them in terms of damage limitation/time/money.

yolofish · 11/03/2020 16:24

BTW I was told that something I wrote was "witless and unpleasant". I didnt have a hissy fit and report it, I just took it at face value and ignored it.
MNHQ please note: this comment does not mean it's a TAAT, its in reply to the disussion above about perjorative comments.

DandyPenguin · 11/03/2020 16:28

It sounds like the hoax call was with the real Harry. His PR team refused to comment.

TheNavigator · 11/03/2020 16:28

@Myimaginarycathasfleas I did say 'You do sound cold hearted laughing at a nasty prank' and I stand by that. Stating that someone sounds cold hearted is not the same as calling them a pejorative term.

For the avoidance of doubt, I will explain the distinction to you: a pejorative term is an insult (eg you are stupid, you are cruel). I pointed out a behaviour - laughing at a nasty prank makes you sound coldhearted. I didn't even state the poster was cold hearted, as I hoped (vainly, it would appear) to encourage self reflection.

Roussette · 11/03/2020 16:35

I have to say... I feel really sorry for Harry. It must be horrible to be properly duped like this, and IMHO he said all the right things about climate change deniers and sounds genuine in his reasons for leaving the UK.
"Sometimes the right decision isn't always the easy one."

"And this decision certainly wasn't the easy one but it was the right decision for our family, the right decision to be able to protect my son,"

"And I think there's a hell of a lot of people around the world that can identify and respect us for putting our family first."

Yes, and I am one of those.

Waspie · 11/03/2020 16:36

LaMarschallin love that penguin with a traffic cone photo! I also love that apparently it's "Royalty Free" Grin Grin

Penguins with hangovers, traffic cones and BRF hanging around the Duty Free shop at Belarus airport. Love this image it's conjuring in my mind Grin

Now I'll catch up with the rest of the thread...

Waspie · 11/03/2020 16:40

Pranking is certainly wrong. 100% all day long.

DandyPenguin - excellent, The Penguins of Belarus is genius, but is it based on The Guns of Navarone of The Penguins of Madagascar? I need to know because have two very conflicting mental images now Confused.

"Smile and wave boys, smile and wave" Grin

MichaelMumsnet · 11/03/2020 16:42

Hi all. Can we have some peace and love on this thread please. We're ready to take this one down if it goes the same way as some of the others.

SussexRoyalTies · 11/03/2020 16:43

I am Shock that the hoax involved the real PH. I was sure that it was a complete joke with a Harry sound-a-like.

No wonder the atmosphere in Westminster Abbey had penguins sliding down it.

The press are c^^€s. I read an article on Twitter that P Schofield was completely set up by The Sun as the new editor (Victoria Newton) wanted to impress her boss (R Brooks Wade) on her first day. Dan Wooton approached PS to say we have a dossier on you which we are going to publish. That’s why PS made the quick announcement and gave The Sun their exclusive story.

So yes, I think the press has real dirt on all the Royals which they will release when they feel the RF haven’t played ball.

Oh Hazza, what have you done? Sad

SussexRoyalTies · 11/03/2020 16:46

Thank you @MNHQ. Thank you for highlighting the fact that a handful of posters swoop down on this discussion with the intent to be quite unpleasant.

A hits B. B retaliates and thwacks A. The teachers always reprimand B.

Tomselleckhaskindeyes · 11/03/2020 16:47

The difference with this Hoax is that it is laughing at the person. Some of Ant and Dec's work is laughing with the person after the event. It will probably be done with their permission. It feels a bit like kicking a dog when he's down.

SussexRoyalTies · 11/03/2020 16:49

But we are not laughing at Harry. We all feel gutted for him (if it is actually him).

We are laughing at the penguins.

TheNavigator · 11/03/2020 16:50

@SussexRoyalTies could you rise above the schoolyard? We are supposed to be adults.

DandyPenguin · 11/03/2020 16:50

Waspie Oh definitely the Penguins of Madagascar

“Smile and wave” is very pertinent Grin
