Here's a follow on to the last thread, which was really enjoyable.

Penguin biscuits tastes too much like Blue Riband margarine.

And so it starts...

Brainfoglightson · 13/03/2020 10:44

Oh this thread. Penguins In the Time of Coronavirus. Thank you. @BarleylemonPenguin I think that’s the crux of it- searching for that bit of meta-awareness.
That Omid article actually reminds me of an article I once attempted to write for the school magazine. All I could think about was the headmistress (similarly un-meta aware) reading it... ‘and as Mrs X rolled up her sleeves to flip burgers with the parents, laughing and joking with the little ones’ etc etc. I made myself quite nauseous.

It’s the circle of... something.

Or a pyramid, maybe?

yoloPenguinsEatfish · 13/03/2020 11:12

Dodecahedron? Complicated, anyway

7Penguins · 13/03/2020 11:13

What a mischievous suggestion Grin

In all seriousness these are the sorts of connections that would have made a part-royal role for either MM or H problematic.

Perhaps it's naivety on their part that they don't see this.

Fully detached they are free to work with what seems a very American model. I'm not sure I find it very dignified but that's another story.

yoloPenguinsEatfish · 13/03/2020 12:32

Yes, in a 'who you know not what you know' world they are ripe for the picking. M probably understands this, because it's the way of the acting world, but H could be vulnerable to not seeing it.

yoloPenguinsEatfish · 13/03/2020 13:25

Just musing about networking. In my professional life (such as it is/was) one criticism that always came up in performance reviews is that I am not good at networking.

This is true, I'm not particularly sociable, I don't like making small talk with people I don't know, I don't like the whole idea of OMG I met X at a party and they can help me with Y. I'd rather pitch an idea or a story on its merits, and then do the work it requires.

I couldnt be doing with a dinner with JM and 10 other women all fluffing about who knows who.

This actually makes me NOT a penguin, as they are very social birds.

Brainfoglightson · 13/03/2020 14:17

I don’t really see that JM thing as proper networking though.
Perhaps you are more a solitary sandpiper, @yolofish. They’re lovely.

(Jessica Mulroney) the 39-year-old fashion stylist is offering female entrepreneurs the chance to have dinner with her next month

Don't all rush at once Wink

SussexRoyalPenguin · 13/03/2020 14:28

I went to Waitrose and had to buy this. Why can’t a Penguin fly?

Harry and Meghan and the intricacies of the Monarchy
SussexRoyalPenguin · 13/03/2020 14:37

Because it’s a biscuit.

Why are Penguins hard to get along with?

Myimaginarypenguinhasfleas · 13/03/2020 14:48

I'm not particularly sociable, I don't like making small talk with people I don't know

Welcome to MNGrin
