Carrying on the conversation as the last thread finished mid-discussion.

Not at all relevant, but did anyone else think that "Poached salmon and salad" is an odd choice of lunch on a freezing cold day in early March, for people who presumably can have whatever they bloody well want on the menu? Oh well. They're probably more health conscious than me.

DeRigueurMortis I wonder whether the Sussexes will expect to plead their case later on by saying 'It's what Granny wanted, that's what she agreed' to
Charles and/or William.

TheTiaraManager · 03/03/2020 20:32

I also wonder who leaked the lunch

ajandjjmum · 03/03/2020 20:36

I don't know - thinking about it in many families, grandparents can act as a sort of go-between when things are difficult between parents and children. Maybe she was just playing a 'normal' grandmotherly role, rather than head of state?

HarryDaylight · 03/03/2020 20:45

If it was a grandmotherly lunch why was it leaked to the press?
It doesn't make sense, especily as the next few days are crucial for meetings to finalise the Sussex's departure from the Royal Court.

Froq · 03/03/2020 21:12

I think, due to the odd choice of detail involved, it’s a H&M leak.

‘Harry requested a meeting’ - still on good terms with gran and is proactively trying to sort out this mess.

‘He left Frogmore’ - it’s still being used, see! They’re not totally wasteful.

‘And walked there’ - can’t accuse him of being a hypocrite by taking cars/booking out an entire train carriage.

‘They’ll always be welcome back’ - they haven’t insulted gran, she still loves them so we should too.

‘Poached salmon’ - certainly made me hungry.

I think it’s prep for the return of Meg and their upcoming appearance on CD. Making out that everything is still rosy so they receive a better reception.

HarryDaylight · 03/03/2020 21:17

Yup, I thought it telling that it was reported that he walked two miles from Frogmore to HMQ: why is that important? It could only have come from his pr people.

7Worfs · 03/03/2020 21:20

Froq excellent analysis

PelicanPie · 03/03/2020 21:21

This is all true. Perhaps leaked by Harry not BP.

CanIHaveATiaraPlease · 03/03/2020 21:30

Well it’s been leaked by someone. Mind you I’d have wanted soup rather than poached salmon on a day like today!

PelicanPie · 03/03/2020 21:43

Now one of M’s ‘friends’ talking about how they are already FaceTiming. Who cares? I mean really ?

PelicanPie · 03/03/2020 21:44

Always

Puzzledandpissedoff · 03/03/2020 21:45

I suppose discussion could be happening in private but there usually (as per the visit with HMQ) is some reporting of this. Odd that there isn't re: meeting PC/PW

Assuming any of the reports are true - admittedly a stretch in itself - maybe the Queen considers herself best placed to take the reins as it were? After all, Charles's judgement has frequently been shown to be deeply faulty, and William lacks her decades of statecraft and might be too emotionally involved

And I wouldn't worry too much about the lunch choice on a cold day ... doubtless they can still afford to heat the palace, even after missing out on the grant from the deprivation fund to help pay for it

PelicanPie · 03/03/2020 21:51

I thought William looked older and weary in the photos of the Ireland trip.

Cuttingthegrass · 03/03/2020 22:03

It’s all such drivel. He walked 2 miles from Frogmore...so they staffed the place and heated just for him? Bloody hell. Use a premier inn or KP or granny’s pad on the sofa..cut price on security then! . Requested salmon at lunch for seeing granny..hints at healthy diet. Says soz Gran Archie’s staying Canada .. can’t help the £5m extra security cos what M wants M gets.

Makes my piss boil all this ridiculousness. I was a loyal monarchy supporter. Not any more. So so so out of touch.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 03/03/2020 22:06

I agree, Pelican. Clever choice of hairpiece by Kate, though ... cue The Dubliners:

Her eyes they shown like diamonds
I thought her the queen of the land
And her hair, it hung over her shoulder
Tied up with a black velvet band

PelicanPie · 03/03/2020 22:14

Ah! I wondered about the hair and. Thanks for that puzzled.
It could of course have been a coincidence.

eggandonion · 03/03/2020 22:33

It begins 'In a neat little town they call Belfast...' so perhaps a mixed message.

derxa · 03/03/2020 22:35

I agree, Pelican. Clever choice of hairpiece by Kate, though ... cue The Dubliners I love that song. Go Kate!

SussexRoyalTies · 04/03/2020 06:42

Kate is like Charles Dickens: there are no coincidences.

PelicanPie · 04/03/2020 08:28

Sussex
😁

Interesting piece on Harry Markle about who released the lunch leak. Is it the RF trying to soften the public’s anger at HM.

A classic PR and very old trick is to try to tell the public that all is well, and that there is harmony to reassure them, but as I said that is an ancient trick and one few buy into. The premise was that if people think The Queen is happy to allow Harry back (and MM) that the People will follow suit. Alas, no, because The Queen’s reputation has been diminished by this debacle and what respect the People had for her has also waned. In short, what she thinks and decides has been questionable at best in recent times.

alliwantisagoodnightssleep · 04/03/2020 08:30

If Harry had lunch with the Queen on Sunday, it might have been nice for him to have gone to church with her. That would have sent an important message in my opinion.

PelicanPie · 04/03/2020 08:41

Yes that’s true all I want. But has Harry been seeing going to Church at all since
Xmas 2018? I think not.

PelicanPie · 04/03/2020 08:52

Very interesting article there weArenot

7Worfs · 04/03/2020 09:03

Hah, nice catch! Grin
Poor Kate is getting a pasting on the fashion thread for her literal dressing and the 50 shades of green on the Ireland trip
