Carrying on the conversation as the last thread finished mid-discussion.

The National theatre “secret” visit picture releases a day after visit to clash with Camilla's DA speech could only have been deliberate as BP specifically ensured no other royal events were going on at same time so maximum press coverage would be given (to a very real important issue!!) I’m not interested in seeing Meghan swan around a virtual reality exhibit in her top shop blouse when another royal is trying to raise the profile of a major issue like domestic abuse.

I didn’t mind MM. I’m no racist. I resent our nation being painted as a bunch of racist because we object to someone (and their Prince husband who is equally responsible) lecturing us and taking all we offer in terms of privilege and security whilst decrying us all and playing Hollywood. Just go away now. I don’t mind if they want a quiet life no one should be forced into a role they don’t want. But these two aren’t seeking a quiet life they want celebrity. They’ll have been delighted with the rainy umbrella shot!!

My question if anyone knows is... on the national theatre pics why do D&DSussex gold copyright alongside their wedding photographer? All other royal pics are press association or whatever they are called I believe. This batch is their copyright. Are they getting money for these pictures?! Directly profiting form a patronage?

ajandjjmum · 07/03/2020 10:48

Am I the only one who thinks that the picture Meghan has released of her laughing and engaged, is a almost direct copy of a number of photos that have been released of (not by!) Kate over the past few weeks, in terms of facial expression?

ajandjjmum · 07/03/2020 10:49

And just Wow if that is the case regarding copyright FreshStartNow Shock

FreshStartNow · 07/03/2020 10:50

Yes the wide laughing smile. That reminded me of Kate type photos so much!

FreshStartNow · 07/03/2020 10:52

I don’t know. I’m not sure how all the copyright stuff works so hoping someone more knowledgeable that me can help “shine a light” (I hate that phrase!). I just noticed it said Duke & Duchesses if Sussex at the wee copyright bit at bottom. So she took own photographer (read was their wedding one). Is that what they said in the initial website statement about not using royal press pack? Did they mean they’d do all own photos?

TheMustressMhor · 07/03/2020 10:53

Interesting that so many of us on these threads seem to be Scots.

MissEliza · 07/03/2020 10:53

No one is quoting the Daily Mail as an authoritative source. People are saying with Jan Moir's opinion. I was also interested by Jan Moir's recollection of the positive public and media reception of MM after the engagement, such as the media talking of the 'Markle sparkle'. The victim narrative conveniently brushes that away.

FreshStartNow · 07/03/2020 10:56

Yes I remember the positive reaction. I remember thinking they’d totally outshine k&w and be much better accepted and liked. I remember feeling slightly sorry for k&w as I didn’t think they’d have the same positive reaction ever. How quickly the tides turned and I do think h&m only have themselves to blame. Sadly history is being rewritten and their victim narrative will be the new truth Hmm

WinterCat · 07/03/2020 10:57

So she took own photographer

Yes and the photographer used photoshop on the picture (look at the line around them, the dry arms in the rain etc). I’m sure it would have been a lovely picture regardless but photoshop and the fact it was undoubtedly rehearsed and planned (much like most professional photographs are) means it is a great picture.

FreshStartNow · 07/03/2020 11:03

Oh I didn’t realise that rainy umbrella pic was their own too. I just saw the copyright on the NT pics! Explains why it’s such a gorgeous photo then.

On a human note I can’t say I blame her. Their last “official” pictures at Canada embassy were awful with her sweat marks. I’m no fan (now) but as a sweaty individual I felt so sorry for her and those are the pictures that have been used over and over again as it was their last official visit. And H looked so angry. So I can see why they are trying to control these last few pictures as they’ll be shown over and over again as their last evening engagement so she’ll have wanted them to be perfect. Interested to see what they are like at the commonwealth event now as the last pics with senior royals.

DandyAF · 07/03/2020 11:04

I too am pmsl at the idea of Ash Sarker being a royal insider.

I'm pretty sure I recall an article by Jan Moir talking of how dull K and W looked beside H and M. Now the media is full of praise for K who, to be fair, seems to put her head down and get on with it.

PelicanPie · 07/03/2020 11:07

Yes I read they used their wedding photographer:

www.alexilubomirski.com/

Not taking any chances obviously. Make up, photography etc. I also thought she was deliberately trying to emulate Kate with the wide open mouthed smile. Displaying the new teeth to full effect. Ugh.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 07/03/2020 11:09

It turned out on a previous royal thread that quite a lot of us are redheads too. And what with the frequent discussions of gin and dieting, there is quite a profile emerging...Grin

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 07/03/2020 11:10

Sorry, that was in response to @TheMustressMhor

PelicanPie · 07/03/2020 11:11

More redheads in Scotland though myimaginaryfleas

Another Scot here. Also fair scunnered at being accused of racism. I think the accusation has gone down very badly with decent people who aren’t racists and who were really pleased about the marriage.

DandyAF · 07/03/2020 11:14

They didn’t use their wedding photographer for the Invictus umbrella in the rain photo.

It was a long-time royal reporter.

They own the copyright to a number of photos, including the christening ones. That's a good earner for them. I read somewhere (and have no idea whether it's true or not) that the Beckhams use their own photographer as well, in order to control their brand and earn ££££. It's a good idea but I'm unsure if the royals should be earning money from their public appearances in this manner.

MissEliza · 07/03/2020 11:21

I can understand why they'd want to maximise the impact of their last appearances but to me that just shows how there's really nothing special about them if you take away their royal roles. That's why they really needed to milk the occasion. Diana, on the other hand, didn't need any royal titles or roles to take centre stage. She undoubtedly had a natural charisma and presence. (I'm not a crazy Diana fan but I do recall how people still went mad for her even when she was outside the royal family)

FreshStartNow · 07/03/2020 11:21

Yes I thought I was just normal regular photographer as didn’t have their copyright. It’s a stunning picture to be fair. I doubt even the most anti-H&M supporters would disagree and as I said I’m sure they (h&m) will be delighted with it! I’m mainly a lurker. I don’t think anyone posting here is a massive anti-h&m person to be honest. I think we are all just deeply disappointed in the current narrative.

And ... I’m also a Scot Blush As a PP suggested... maybe we do just have a low bs tolerance Grin

drina27 · 07/03/2020 11:28

Klopp must be arranging for another tooth brightening set of false teeth, as we speak. MM has stolen his thunder with hers.

😆

drina27 · 07/03/2020 11:30

tooth brightening set of false teeth

Okaaay, that sounds like nonsense but I hope you get the drift!

DandyAF · 07/03/2020 11:31

I’m not Scots and had not heard of the word ‘scunnered’ until this thread. Love it!
