Carrying on the conversation as the last thread finished mid-discussion.

@Oldbutstillgotit Grin

TimeLady · 07/03/2020 08:57

Agreed (another Scot!)

TheNavigator · 07/03/2020 08:59

Great, so after @Tsukukuviri measured posts, it is back to quoting the Daily Mail as an authorative source. Let us remind ourselves that Jan Moir is a 'journalist' who linked Stephen Gately's tragic death to his homosexuality (he died of natural causes). When you consume such rank fodder, you are feeding your unconscious biases.

TimeLady · 07/03/2020 09:01

MM reminds me of Amil Clooney. All the moralising lectures and public do-gooding and then a three day ostentatious wedding, flaunting their wealth in Venice, as I recall.

TimeLady · 07/03/2020 09:04

Ah, the literary Police are amongst us, I see. I read the DM, The Times and Politico, amongst many others. And in this case, Jan Moir speaks for me.

I do however draw a line in the sand reThe Guardian.

derxa · 07/03/2020 09:08

As a fellow Scot I love the word scunner Grin Yes we're scunnered with pair of them.

OutwiththeOutCrowd · 07/03/2020 09:11

Well, I'm Scottish too, and I think I'm scunnered with them but then I find myself coming back to threads like these!

DandyAF · 07/03/2020 09:13

Great, so after @Tsukukuviri measured posts, it is back to quoting the Daily Mail as an authorative source

@TheNavigator where did this happen?

I didn’t see the deleted post so accept it may have been that, but the other posts here that refer to the Jan Moir article do not quote it as an authoritative source.

Stealing Camilla's thunder: not really cricket, is it?

Butterymuffin · 07/03/2020 09:22

But it's not like they deliberately scheduled the event to clash with Camilla's thing, as I said earlier. It's different to when they publish social media posts that 'tread on' other Royals' events.

Groan at the 'authoritative sources'. Treat all reporting with scepticism. As the poster did when they posted the link.

PelicanPie · 07/03/2020 09:26

Such great, insightful posts. I love reading them. I haven’t read the Jan Moir article yet but will later. Scunnered is a great word. I am also in Scotland.
I think M saw herself in exactly the role salmon describes. However she just hasn’t got what it takes. She got out of her depth fairly quickly and dug herself a hole without realising she was doing so. Michelle and Amal are very bright, highly educated women with a lot of experience of the world. I don’t actually think M has anything much to say beyond repeating stock phrases such as ‘I’m a feminist’. It’s all style and no substance with her because she’s only really interested in the furtherance of her own career.
The victim narrative really grates with me as they have actually been so, so lucky.
Agree about Harry being an unformed personality too. I think the Army became a substitute family for him for a while. He is going to miss his military roles so much.

DandyAF · 07/03/2020 09:27

Ar the school MM visited yesterday, pupils who’d forgotten their ID badges were not allowed in by her security. Not surprisingly, their parents weren’t very happy.

Interested to read that many of us are Scots. Maybe we have stronger bullshit detectors.

FiveTwoFaster · 07/03/2020 09:32

They could have published the photos of the visit next week. I think domestic violence is more important than virtual reality stuff and it would have been politic and sensitive of the Sussexes to let Camilla’s speech have some breathing room. It was picked up by papers but instantly squashed. It’s a pity.

PelicanPie · 07/03/2020 09:34

www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.dailymail.co.uk/debate/article-8084475/amp/JAN-MOIR-gives-Harry-Meghans-final-journey.html

Not sure if there was a link to this article above. It’s a great summary, and I agree with every word.

PelicanPie · 07/03/2020 09:37

I have to say, I think Camilla outs in the hard yards and is really committed to her charities. Osteoporosis and Domestic Violence in particular. It’s a great shame more attention was not paid to her speech.

DandyAF · 07/03/2020 09:44

But it's not like they deliberately scheduled the event to clash with Camilla's thing

No but that’s not the criticism. The criticism is that MM allegedly agreed not to release the National Theatre photos this week so as not to clash with Camilla, but then did so.

Camilla didn’t just give a speech per se, she was opening up the Women of the World festival. It’s a big and very important deal.

OP posts:
Butterymuffin · 07/03/2020 09:48

Ah, I see! Sorry, didn't know about the photo side of it.

That's not tactically a good move anyway - the Endeavour awards 'umbrella in the rain' photo is everywhere at the moment and is a stunning photo. They won't now have a continuing supply of royal event photos. You'd think they'd want to carefully pace the release of these last ones.

TimeLady · 07/03/2020 09:56

Pissing off your stepmother whilst accepting £2m pa from her husband/your dad seems spectacularly dumb.

EthelMayFergus · 07/03/2020 09:56

'Palace insiders?' Yasmin Alibhai-Brown and Ash Sarkar? In what crazy universe are they palace insiders? I wonder if H & M's supporters mind the accusation of racism? Because it's an accusation directed at the whole nation. I'm not British but if I was, and was still cheering and rooting for them, it would piss me right off.

ajandjjmum · 07/03/2020 09:57

I have no issue with the colour of Meghan's skin. I just don't like her.

A previous poster mentioned that she could have hung around and shown the Royal Family how it's done. Really?!!! They've made mistakes, but they've generally been a force for good over many years. I don't think they need an American actress to come and show them how to 'act' royal.

DandyAF · 07/03/2020 10:02

Ha yes Time Grin

What I personally care about is that the opening of WOW was overshadowed.

The visit to the NT was meant to be private. Those photos were deliberately released within a day and not by the NT.

5LeafClover · 07/03/2020 10:04

I'm not usually a follower but, ironically, as a result of this thread I just found details of Camilla's dv speech online. Impressive use of her profile to raise awareness for an important message:

Domestic abuse is #everyonesproblem

Cuttingthegrass · 07/03/2020 10:24

BP PR probably tearing their hair out and packing HaM cases !

FizzyLimes · 07/03/2020 10:41

HaM obviously seem supremely confident that they will be coining more than £2m per year so Prince Charles’ “contribution” will no longer be necessary.
Surely the potential employers can see the Sussexes 2 fingered attitude towards the RF. I think this torrent of cash they think will come their way will soon become a trickle once their association with the RF disappears
