Carrying on the conversation as the last thread finished mid-discussion.

It's not impossible, although I think they are all underestimating the depth of public opinion. Either that or they are indifferent to it.

To underestimate the strength of public antagonism would be very foolish. The Queen is more canny than that, though. I hope!

@Butterymuffin sorry to take a while to respond, I needed to be back home so I could use my laptop to write and link.

This is the article I'm talking about. It's from Lainey, long-time gossip blogger and TV entertainment host in Canada. I met her a long time ago and have been following her blog for years.

There's some digs in it about HaM. Now, it's fairly subtle, but not if you know Lainey and her connections. This is a game-changer for her. Not only has she long been into Harry over William from the beginning of her blog, and then very pro-Meghan and Harry, she is good friends with no other than Jessica Mulroney. And knows Meghan directly through her. Lainey's been photographed with Jessica and Meghan at a small birthday event for Jessica in the past.

Not only that but the TV company Lainey works for is the one that will be hosting Jessica's new reality fashion show, that MM was rumoured to be appearing on, and is always where Jessica's husband works.

Even further, Lainey is one of the commentators on this US or Canadian documentary that's coming out about MM and racism.

So in a nutshell, Lainey has always been a staunch MM supporter. But this piece contains some points some of us would call 'telling the truth' and others would call 'heinous hate' Wink It's a new look for Lainey, and is very curious. Especially since she remarks on MM not having the best fashion sense - well Jessica used to be referred to as MM's stylist! I wonder what has prompted this change? Is it JM distancing herself? Lainey would definitely be Team JM.

Meghan Markle is many things – she’s an excellent communicator, she’s intelligent and understands modern media, she’s industrious, she’s committed to her work…but it’d be a stretch to say that she has all that much style imagination or adventurism. In fact, some of her outfits haven’t been all that well executed (see the blue and white striped shirt at Wimbledon). She is best dressed when she’s wearing Givenchy and the fashion house team puts together the look. But “glamorous androgynous” is a big swing. If this is true, I’m really curious to see if she can pull it off.

She points out that Archie's 1st birthday is 2 days after the Met Gala and whether that will influence them going to the event or not.

This quote says what I've always thought. I've never believed that Harry doesn't enjoy the spotlight and wants a quiet life. I've always thought that complete BS. He's on board with the showbiz lifestyle.

Meghan, before Harry, was nowhere near the fame level she is now. She is now at a recognition point that almost all of them want to get to, even though they’ll never admit it. That thirst doesn’t go away. Both Meghan and Harry enjoy the spotlight – on their terms – and I wonder whether or not it would kinda turn Harry on to see his wife step back onto a set in front of a camera.

But for them, it’s thirst + prestige. What kind of acting and what kind of character would suit her station now? And… well… does she have the skill? You don’t have to be a hater to say that Meghan’s career before Harry didn’t offer much in the way of answering that question. And they don’t usually stunt cast for prestige projects.

That’s an interesting article by Lainey especially as I felt and always very much supported MM.

M looks very sleek. The dress looks lovely. The back patting and hand clinging still in evidence though sadly.

PelicanPie · 05/03/2020 19:12

Bare legs and short sleeved dress, no coat!

StartupRepair · 05/03/2020 19:17

She can't really logically play 'I'm so thrilled to be back,' can she? Maybe her line is that the 'people' have been lovely , it is just the Royal family and media who have been do caring and unkind.'

DandyAF · 05/03/2020 19:18

It’s possible Lainey is throwing shade on JM’s styling here and they’ve fallen out, but I doubt it because that’s her social circle and workplace she’d be messing with.

No sign of baby no 2 though, that will be a relief to UK taxpayers.

Needthechat333 · 05/03/2020 19:20

I’m surprised that we’ve got no idea of how she arrived here - surely there would be photos from the airport on either side?

DandyAF · 05/03/2020 19:22

The dress does look lovely, it’s a great colour.

We have to remember that they didn’t want to give stuff like this up, I think they’d have done this as part of being part-time royalty as they wanted to be. It’s the other less glitzy stuff I suspect.

Yes, I’d love a job like that. Doing lots of fancy things and tours all the time

yolofish · 05/03/2020 19:26

She looks lovely, not sure whether dress should have been long? I suppose it depends on the type of event. H wears terrible suits, he needs a new tailor.

DandyAF · 05/03/2020 19:27

Yes wouldn’t it be nice, being revered and cosseted so much that one doesn’t need a coat.

Lainey is or was a regular on ET Canada, which is a program Ben Mulroney, JM’s husband, hosts. This predates MM by quite a while.

JM, incidentally, comes from a very wealthy family. Her family owns Brown’s Shoes, one of Canada’s largest Canadian owned chains.

PrettyPity · 05/03/2020 19:41

Meghan looks amazing! Good for her and her equally happy looking husband

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 05/03/2020 19:42

The best thing about MM's look is her make up. You can see just how good it is when you compare it with the "South Africa" interview. She still looked pretty but in a much more natural way with no contouring and other camouflage. If we're paying for her MUA it should be in his/her contract to publish a YouTube video of his/her sorcery.Grin

WinnieTheW0rm · 05/03/2020 19:43

"It’s the other less glitzy stuff I suspect"

Like what the Countess of Wessex has been doing today?

(Bonus point for anyone who knows without having to Google)

FizzyLimes · 05/03/2020 19:45

Isn’t Sophie currently in Africa ( I didn’t google)

7Worfs · 05/03/2020 19:45

Megs looks a little different but I can't quite make out what's different. On some of the DM photos I wouldn't recognise her if I didn't know it's her.
Weirdly from an angle she reminds me of Megan Fox. Could be the professional make-up.

7Worfs · 05/03/2020 19:47

Crosspost with Mischief yes, this make-up is a whole different level, she is barely recognizable from certain angles.

DeRigueurMortis · 05/03/2020 19:49

So I've been pondering the impact of the virus on H&M's plans....

If you look at what's happening in Italy and other countries - schools/universities closed, sports events postponed (or played without a crowd), business conferences cancelled, film premieres postponed (eg Bond for 7 months) then you have to question how that fits with the "grand plan".

Their ability to monetise their brand relies on them having a high profile.

How do you maintain a high profile (and derive income) if all the events you'd usually sell your presence to attend are no longer running?

Endless pictures of Vancouver island isn't going to cut it for long.

Remember they've a 12 month trial period and it's fair to say that predictions on how disruptive the virus could be suggest 6 months or more....that's a big part of the time they have to prove the feasibility of their plans...

I wonder if the RF will offer to extend the trial because I can see this having a massive impact on their finances and also profiles which further limits their marketability - out of sight out of mind....always a silver lining Wink

HarryDaylight · 05/03/2020 19:50

Even if they're pissed off, they have to look ecstatically happy because these next few days photos are the ones that will be sold around the world and make them money.
I admire her balls for turning up, but frankly, I believe that they're only doing it for the Royal connection i.e. $$$$

7Worfs · 05/03/2020 19:51

Apparently someone boo-ed them, looks like they didn't attract a big crowd either.

WinnieTheW0rm · 05/03/2020 19:52

Yes, she's in South Sudan, with engagements icw countering violence against women and girls

Follows a visit to Sierra Leone where visits also concerned women's rights
