The sense of entitlement from this DM exclusive is breathtaking - it's such an uncomfortable read.

Winterlife · 26/02/2020 19:46

There definitely is a sense of entitlement. However, I don't believe MM knew what she was getting into when she married into the RF. It must have been difficult, at 38 years of age, and having to have hustled for work, to suddenly be thrust into a world of protocol, where every time you are in public, cameras are flashing in your face, where you have to be careful of what you say, and your missteps are mocked.

I think where the entitlement comes in, is in assuming, once you step away from that world, that the RF must support you financially, even when you refust to follow protocols.

Harry has a not insignificant trust fund. They could live a good upper class lifestyle, albeit, not a A-list star lifestyle, on that income. I think greed plays a big factor here as well.

Yes, they don't come well out of that exclusive. What happened to 'never complain, never explain'?

NumbersStation · 26/02/2020 19:52

And I’m now going to try to read the DM exclusive to see how far my jaw can drop Confused

NumbersStation · 26/02/2020 19:54

Be warned... I may look anything between like a Smash mash metal mouth and a flip top toothbrush head Wink

Winterlife · 26/02/2020 19:54

She's Californian. Never complain, never explain isn't in their mindset.

Butterymuffin · 26/02/2020 19:57

It must have been difficult, at 38 years of age, and having to have hustled for work, to suddenly be thrust into a world of protocol, where every time you are in public, cameras are flashing in your face, where you have to be careful of what you say, and your missteps are mocked.

I genuinely thought it would work really well at the start. Seemed to me like the best person to cope with the demands of royal life would be someone thoroughly used to being in the public eye, being scrutinised for all sorts of little things, expected to keep up a particular appearance and public front. Acting seems like good training for that. I hadn't anticipated things breaking down in this way.

Winterlife · 26/02/2020 20:07

MM never had the level of fame where she was so scrutinized.

I live in Canada. She made a deal with Reitman's, a clothing store, for a collection of clothing. It was advertised quite a bit on television, with her as the star of the ad, and whenn I saw it, I had no idea who MM was. She was an actress on a cable television show with a limited audience, and she wasn't even the star. It's just not comparable.

Re that DM exclusive from a "friend"

If you believe one of her friends would pass on rubbish like that, then I have a bridge I'd like to sell you.

NumbersStation · 26/02/2020 20:12

Good on them for rising above the pettiness.

Bit of a bloody shame they seem to be drowning in bitterness....

Butterymuffin · 26/02/2020 20:16

Ah you're in Canada! How are people there feeling about all this?

ajandjjmum · 26/02/2020 20:18

For all of the criticism that the DM gets on here, in time many of the stories have proved to be true. Same with some of the blinds.

Alsgirl · 26/02/2020 20:20

Delurking.. For whatever reason, Meghan and Harry have decided to step away from being royal. That's their choice and no longer the issue. Surely, lthat decision made, they can't cherry pick? If they wish for financial independence, crack on! As pp have said they are not without funds and most adults don't get million pound handouts. There are scions of wealthy families and sleb offspring of course who do receive family money, they seem to manage?

ajandjjmum · 26/02/2020 20:22

Sounds like she's still in foot stamping mode.

Encyclo · 26/02/2020 20:24

Fascinating really. The DM doles out the koolaid and everyone drinks it up.

7Worfs · 26/02/2020 20:31

Alsgirl Megxit means Megxit GrinGrinGrin

MyBlueMoonbeam · 26/02/2020 20:37

A friend met the lovely Prince A socially in the early '80s and he was all "Call me Andy" - not a great precedent 👀

Froq · 26/02/2020 20:41

The ‘friend’ was probably H&M themselves.

Last week the DM had a ‘friend’ leak that they were complaining Liz didn’t own the word ‘royal’. Then comes their own statement whining about the same thing.

Encyclo · 26/02/2020 20:51

There's no way they would be behind an article like that the same day Harry is back in the UK launching Travelyst.

Now, If a media organisation had an axe to grind and didn't like how warmly Harry had been received today...

Winterlife · 26/02/2020 20:58

@Butterymuffin. For the most part we’re indifferent to them. Certainly they won’t be bothered here, no matter where they live. However, 3/4 of Canadians are pissed off that we are funding part of their security, and the consensus is, they need to leave if that doesn’t stop.

Poppyfields21 · 26/02/2020 21:16

I’d say it was tepid rather than warm, especially when compared to two years ago

Notwiththeseknees · 26/02/2020 22:06

I enjoyed this link from Twitter - I am not a natural reader of the Mirror, but FSF sums up exactly how I feel....

Puzzledandpissedoff · 26/02/2020 22:10

B's wedding has already had a shadow cast over it wrt her father's shoddy (to say the least) antics. It would be a shame if it all became about a H&M "no show"

I think there's been some talk about it being much more private than previous RF weddings?

If so, we'll probably still hear if H&M turned up or not, but at least we might be spared "W&K looked grim / no they didn't / yes they did / thread goes poof"

Rainbows8117 · 26/02/2020 22:19

Presuming there has been no direct fall out with Beatrice and family, then I think H&M should go to the wedding. They are family. If they just turn up as guests, don't do any announcements or social media posts on that day or just before/after, then they can't be accused of trying to upstage them surely. It will be far worse if they don't go.
