I wimped out of the other thread title I planned as I thought it might look goady.

But please let’s keep it as the reality-and-let's-avoid-idle-speculation-and-reliance-on-dodgy-sources thread (thanks Seneca!).

Bit juvenile

SussexRoyalties · 26/02/2020 19:32

I don’t know what you mean.

GinnyStrupac · 26/02/2020 19:32

Oh dear - what has happened to this thread?!

LilyMumsnet · 26/02/2020 19:33

Hi all

We're not going to delete this thread unless we have to, but we will suspend repeat offenders. Please - no PA's, no clogging up the thread - just try not to be goady. Thanks.

Froq · 26/02/2020 19:38

Good to see the deleting spree is over.

SenecaFallsRedux · 26/02/2020 19:42

Okay, for anyone who still gives two hoots about the curtsy debate, here is some support for my assertion. This was posted the day after the Telegraph article that some posters referred to in earlier posts. It's Richard Palmer quoting a royal aide:

Butterymuffin · 26/02/2020 19:49

The 'engaging' thing came from Annie.

I respectfully disagree with that, as it started with you repeatedly using it on the numbered threads, as you also have here. However, since MN are requesting not to clog up the thread I shan't refer further to other threads. But it wasn't Annie.

rockingchaircandle · 26/02/2020 19:59

No! I objected to the personal attacks, claims of derailment or talk of SOBing in lieu of engagement. In all honesty, just being ignored was much more pleasant, I'm more than happy with that for future reference. In terms of this thread, more than happy to move on.

peridito · 26/02/2020 20:03

Buttery I don't understand all of your last post to me but

Yes you put words into my mouth

I've been criticised and mocked in the past for responding to something several pages back .I can see that can be clunky and I try to avoid doing it . I was pleased to see you clarify that this wouldn't be a problem for you Obviously everyone should be able to step away at any time, or contribute at any time. Their choice.

You still seem to think people have an obligation to 'engage' with posts they find contentious I've never thought this and don't now ,could you explain your thinking ?

SenecaFallsRedux · 26/02/2020 20:06

Quoting from the articles linked below: "A royal highness does not curtsy to another royal highness. Yes, there are articles that state this, but it is not true."

Roussette · 26/02/2020 20:10

Why is no one engaging with me?

And you haven’t even asked me if I’m alright?

Really??

Butterymuffin · 26/02/2020 20:15

peridito I honestly don't follow what you're trying to say to me now, and you seem to have the same feeling about my last post. Yet we're both agreeing on the point that no one has to engage, ever, if they don't want to. So in the interests of not clogging the thread up further, why don't we stop there?

(Anyone more technically adept than me who can post a GIF of Jack Nicholson in Mars Attacks saying 'Why can't we all just...get along?' - please do!)

peridito · 26/02/2020 20:17

buttery I'm asking you to explain why you directed this remark at me

You still seem to think people have an obligation to 'engage' with posts they find contentious

Encyclo · 26/02/2020 20:19

I feel I want to link arms with the other thread now Butterymuffin, and maybe sing Kumbayay. We've been in the trenches a long time now.

Butterymuffin · 26/02/2020 20:21

Because you seemed to think it was ok to not engage because away from the thread doing other things but not to choose not to engage.

peridito · 26/02/2020 20:22

Seneca can I just say - you have the patience of a saint and enviable manners .

You deserve a 🏅

TheMustressMhor · 26/02/2020 20:23

Send me a PM then Encyclo because I do not know what you meant.

Butterymuffin · 26/02/2020 20:23

But thanks for doing exactly what you've just said people shouldn't do. Even when I offered an olive branch.

peridito · 26/02/2020 20:29

Let me get this straight ,you thought that I was against people choosing not to engage ???

you got that from this

does anyone else think it's sad that in an effort to avoid being accused of not"engaging a poster feels the need to explain that their silence will be because they are going to work .

or this ?

Ah Buttery actually I was asking if anyone else found it sad that a poster felt she should explain why she wouldn't be posting in order to avoid being accused of not engaging
