Does anyone want a thread for people who are happy for Harry and Meghan? Thread 2

I wimped out of the other thread title I planned as I thought it might look goady.

But please let’s keep it as the reality-and-let's-avoid-idle-speculation-and-reliance-on-dodgy-sources thread (thanks Seneca!).

Keep banging that drum Froq

Roussette · 26/02/2020 16:25

Wish Dave the OP of this thread would come back I was having quite a nice chat with him/her

Agreed. Dave is a Star. And I've actually seen a coach with Dave's Coaches on it.... in the middle of Spain last year, with a group of pensioners on. Smile Funny how I remembered that.

I agree there is little news about H&M at the moment so all the old stuff gets rehashed.

peridito · 26/02/2020 16:29

does anyone else think it's sad that in an effort to avoid being accused of not"engaging a poster feels the need to explain that their silence will be because they are going to work .

Samcro · 26/02/2020 16:29

its just plain daft that people are banging on about a dress.
its hardly new news. but a way to stick the knife in.

rockingchaircandle · 26/02/2020 16:30

Confused How did Diane Abbott get roped in?!
Please let's leave her off the royal threads.

Roussette · 26/02/2020 16:35

How long ago was the dress? years wasn't it...

If we mention Diane Abbott, perhaps we can talk about Priti Patel, she's worth some inches of post. And not in a good way.

I have no idea what Diane Abbott has to do with H&M and I can't be arsed to scroll back and find out because this thread is not at the moment anything to do with the thread title (being happy or positive for H&M) , but of course it is the right of every poster to post what they want within MNHQ guidelines. (I added that last bit before someone jumps on me!)

I think I might have to tell my Prince George's school story in a minute if this carries on... Grin

Encyclo · 26/02/2020 16:38

I'd like to hear that story Rousette 🥰

Everycloud12 · 26/02/2020 16:40

M&H have received some fair criticism as well as the unfair.

I think with social media etc people will always need someone to poke at and bully. I hope I'm wrong but I don't think the whole "be kind" thing will work at all. People enjoy having a target to attack and the media is doing nothing to change that - why would they, Its click bait.

Today it's M&H tomorrow it'll be one of the Cambridge children.

Everycloud12 · 26/02/2020 16:42

Kate and William might start wishing they'd spoken up in support of the media bullying of H&M if one of their own children becomes a target a few years down the line.

PortiaCastis · 26/02/2020 16:49

Ah Rousette I've also seen Dave's coaches here but as Dave asked me how long my train journey was home on Sunday night I very much doubt if they're one and the same, anyway Dave if you're reading your thread I'm just saying hi and please come back

Roussette · 26/02/2020 16:52

Since you asked Encyclo... Grin

One of my DDs works not far from the school in Battersea where PGeorge is attending. When the press heard the name of the school, they were poised for his first day at school.

DD complained to me that over a period of days/weeks, the school minibus drivers were parked in a side road where she had to walk to get to her office. They called out the most disgusting things to her, like we'd gone back to the 60s. Day after day...comments about her appearance, the usual stuff, you can imagine...

She'd had enough. It was the week before George was starting there. She wrote to the Principal, about the culture of misogyny amongst the drivers of the school buses, and how it was obviously normal amongst all of them as it was no one driver. My DD writes a good email !

You can imagine.... (she could've gone to the papers about this!) the Principal was beside himself with apologies and phone calls etc. Hardly surprising given their important pupil about to attend!

She never saw another school bus from that day forward, no idea what happened.

rockingchaircandle · 26/02/2020 16:52

How long ago was the dress?

I read this, then went on Twitter and saw 'that dress' was trending!

But it's because it's the five year anniversary of the white and gold (not blue and black!) dress story.

Its a good analogy, like Peridito's Rubin's Vase!

Samcro · 26/02/2020 17:10

Not wishing to be rude to dave, but when i see the user name i see johnny vegas, he played a coach driver in something i watched a while back.

Butterymuffin · 26/02/2020 17:12

Harry's doing an event to publicise an initiative of his today, and is back in the country for that reason. It's been discussed on the thread too. So not sure why this notion that there's 'nothing to discuss', but thanks for your input Smile

peridito agree - the idea of 'engaging' and posters being told that they weren't 'engaging' if they didn't respond to challenges to their views was a popular refrain on the other thread. It's a case of be careful what you wish for, I guess. Obviously everyone should be able to step away at any time, or contribute at any time. Their choice.

rocking I can't believe that dress meme was 5 years ago! Where does the time go..

StarbucksSmarterSister · 26/02/2020 17:14

When I lived in London I heard many a reference to "the Queen of England

Most English people I know say "Queen of England". I do live in a very "little England" sort of place though.

Encyclo · 26/02/2020 17:17

Good on your Dd Rousette. I bet that School Principal acted fast!

It's shocking that she was subjected to that type of behaviour in this day and age though. From school bus drivers, who carry children around. That's very disturbing

TheMustressMhor · 26/02/2020 17:22

It's sad they went and hid the thread, but can't blame them as it has been hijacked so badly

Samcro the thread has not been hijacked. It has attracted posters because of the subject-matter, that's all.

katiegoestoaldi · 26/02/2020 17:29

How silly to say the thread has been hijacked! Like Rocking said previously, it's a discussion site, expect things to be discussed. People are still on topic, what's the problem?

drina27 · 26/02/2020 17:31

Most English people I know say "Queen of England".

Yes, due to ignorance on their part.

PortiaCastis · 26/02/2020 17:39

Well done to your dd Rousette cat calls are awful and women should be able to walk to their place of work without harassment, noticeably these men who shout their stuff never seem to be alone and are usually showing off in front of their mates

Roussette · 26/02/2020 17:39

It's shocking that she was subjected to that type of behaviour in this day and age though. From school bus drivers, who carry children around. That's very disturbing

Exactly, and shocking given the importance of the school. But she's a tough cookie takes after her mother Grin

The thread hasn't been hijacked as long as we agree the other ones weren't either. That was discussion too then...

Encyclo · 26/02/2020 17:42

Jaysus Mustress, did you give yourself whiplash doing that U turn 😂

Butterymuffin · 26/02/2020 18:05

Well, that's what we kept being told, Roussette. So I guess what's good for the goose is good for the gander!

TheMustressMhor · 26/02/2020 18:08

I don't know what you mean, Encyclo.

rockingchaircandle · 26/02/2020 18:11

I like the story too, Roussette - I love women sticking up for themselves and taking no shit!

In some ways, the thread isn't strictly on topic- as it's clearly labelled as a place for people who are happy for them, so it's sad for the OP who had good intentions.

The other threads were very confusingly titled and seemed to be open to general discussion. Still, I can see why, as they were deleted, people would migrate over here. Its not perfect, I can see why some people are concerned but it's been less toxic so far. I'm definitely pro (civil) discussion Smile
