I wimped out of the other thread title I planned as I thought it might look goady.

But please let’s keep it as the reality-and-let's-avoid-idle-speculation-and-reliance-on-dodgy-sources thread (thanks Seneca!).

Exactly!

LaurieMarlow · 26/02/2020 07:55

I’m not a big fan of private jet use generally, but it’s regular behaviour for both the royals and rich enough celebs, so I can see why it becomes ‘normal’ in those circles.

It’s great that he’s cutting down.

GracefulHippo · 26/02/2020 08:00

Rousette, I hope he is cutting it down. I would completely understand an RAF flight for his family last year if there was an MI5 risk assessment. Elton John’s jet might be safer that I think though.

I think there are a lot of people out there who will have a different view than you in terms of someone who frequently uses private jets and also launches an environmental travelling initiative. That is why it is such a shame. I really love the initiative and I think he could make people think differently if he went about it very strategically.

There is no railway station at Glasgow Airport. It's 1.5km from the airport to Gilmour Street - such an insurmountable distance!
I worked near Arran and remember getting planes from Paisley. It was decades ago, but I couldn't remember any problem getting to the airport. But, then, I was young, and I'll admit I am a pleb and was used to getting my own way around.

"Chariots of Fire" springs to mind "with hope in our hearts and wings on our heels.” Oh dear, the thought of flying around (cheaply as possible) in my careless youth is making me wax lyrical.

RoseAndRose · 26/02/2020 08:05

Oh, I don't think people will care what reaction they get, and might even keep posting the same stuff, over and over again, despite other posters pointing out the isquoting that led to the doggedness.

Remember that MNHQ no love nger permits reminders from posters to ignore posts you think are off topic.

So keeping threads on topic is now, on MNHQ instructions, not really achievable.

SummerPlace · 26/02/2020 08:06

@MissEliza1.5km. Gasp, how problematic.

Samcro · 26/02/2020 08:09

people can start their own threads though, this one is supposed to be supportive and for people who are happy for them.
of course no one owns a thread, but surely its a bit mean to hijack a thread, rather than start one.

katiegoestoaldi · 26/02/2020 08:17

H says, "As tourism inevitably grows, it is critical to accelerate the adoption of sustainable practices worldwide..."

😁

What H says and what H does don't match up. Again. What a surprise

Poppyfields21 · 26/02/2020 08:24

I don’t believe I am hijacking by offering a different opinion. I’ve not said I’m NOT happy for them, I just think they need to do some damage control and consider their next steps carefully?

FelicityFebruary · 26/02/2020 08:24

Random fact:

There's a railway station at Prestwick Airport for anyone looking to use integrated transport!

Encyclo · 26/02/2020 08:27

As far as I can see he's flown commercial since last summer. His entire family have used private jets extensively and PC in particular is very keen to lecture everyone on environmental issues.

It shouldn't surprise me that H gets all the scrutiny.

Butterymuffin · 26/02/2020 08:27

That's your perception and not the view of those on this thread AFAIC

MN have indicated that they are not supportive of people making other posters feel unwelcome on threads. Hopefully we can all share our views and opinions. Smile

I'm happy for them living the life they want free from royal protocols, I certainly would do that too!

However I reserve my right to keep my hypocrisy radar intact.

katiegoestoaldi · 26/02/2020 08:30

JP Morgan was Epstein-linked. They could have chosen better

This is why I believe HM told them they couldn't use the term Royal. H&M just don't have the team (or sense) to do due diligence about what firms and charities to work with, especially when there's financial motivation to overlook things in order to be financially independent. They would make it look like these firms had Royal approval and they'd be too open to exploitation.

She was hardly being a mean Granny as someone else said

Cerseirys · 26/02/2020 08:35

So the Queen is worried about Epstein connections now and not when her own son was actually linked to him?

CallmeAngelina · 26/02/2020 08:35

Samcro, Yes, possibly you could argue it's a bit mean to hijack a thread, but that's exactly what one of the "rainbows and unicorns" posters did on the "other" thread, leading to its deletion.

PerfPower · 26/02/2020 08:37

Their British Protection officers must be doing a fair few air miles between them. Not sure that's being environmentally aware. He really isn't the best person to raise awareness on this subject.

Poppyfields21 · 26/02/2020 08:37

Agree that HM is trying to protect the RF from tarnishing the wider institution. She has enough to deal with at the moment with PA. They should all be learning from this and the importance of keeping good company. There’s a real risk in the business world that H&M could end up associating with business/individuals that have an unsavoury press impact

Poppyfields21 · 26/02/2020 08:38

I feel very sorry for the BPOs. I would think this is just a short term solution though and that H&M will surely pay for their own private protection once they’ve found a home to settle in.

peridito · 26/02/2020 08:38

Blimey ,I don't mind a bit of meandering but since this thread has become a hostel for the homeless ,it's all over the place !

I see Rose is introducing dogging and a fantasy take on the effect of "MN instructions" .

Ah well ,I expect we'll manage to cope.

PerfPower · 26/02/2020 08:40

I'm not talking about the CPOs travelling with him yesterday btw, I'm talking about the ones having to now commute to their full time job in Canada.

LaurieMarlow · 26/02/2020 08:41

JP Morgan are perfectly legit as far as big businesses go. Sure they’re a capitalist giant, but they’ll have CSR initiatives coming out of their ears. They sponsor lots of high profile stuff.

I’m sure the royals will have hobnobbed with them before.

Cerseirys · 26/02/2020 08:42

Re Meghan's friend and Epstein, a quick google reveals nothing on any news sites. Not even the Mail or Sun. There's a few conspiracy theorist blogs and discussion boards which make a brief mention of the connection but you'd have to be pretty short of thinking to take them seriously.

Butterymuffin · 26/02/2020 08:42

H&M will surely pay for their own private protection once they’ve found a home to settle in.

I'd hope so too Poppy, but there's been no statement of intention about that. There is also some doubt about whether they could afford it, which might seem Hmm but the costs of the level of security needed for the situation really are astronomical, and this independent income they aspire to will take time to establish.
