Does anyone want a thread for people who are happy for Harry and Meghan? Thread 2

I wimped out of the other thread title I planned as I thought it might look goady.

But please let’s keep it as the reality-and-let's-avoid-idle-speculation-and-reliance-on-dodgy-sources thread (thanks Seneca!).

Meghan that is.

ApplesinmyPocket · 26/02/2020 01:35

"no one should have to bow to another human."

It is absolutely ridiculous, isn't it?

annielouise · 26/02/2020 02:11

Seneca: but the only person that she would be expected to curtsy to in the British Royal Family is the Queen. It seems that's wrong. M would need to curtsy to various other members including Beatrice and Eugenie as blood princesses although they in turn would curtsy to her if she is in the presence of H as it is her husband's position that 'validates' the status of the wife. Now that in itself is not aligned with being a feminist - at all - so I can imagine it stuck in her craw, as it would do me. How did she reconcile that with her values I wonder? There's compromise and there's compromise.

SenecaFallsRedux · 26/02/2020 03:05

There is a lot of confusion around the order of precedence and the notion of who bows and curtsies to whom, most of which has been promulgated by erroneous articles in the tabloid media. Meghan does not have to curtsy to anyone other than the Queen. The order of precedence has to do with who enters the room first, who arrives at a function first or last, etc. HRHs don't bow and curtsy to other HRHs. Kate has been seen to bob slightly to the DoE out of respect, I assume, but that is her choice; it's not demanded by protocol.

SummerPlace · 26/02/2020 03:20

MissEliza I presume that that would be Glasgow Paisley, and not Prestwick – it's decades since I have been to Glasgow – as I don't live in the UK.

What's to stop him getting a train from Glasgow airport to Edinburgh? Changing trains a problem? But surely it will just give him a foretaste of living as a private person.

OverUnderSidewaysDown · 26/02/2020 05:01

There is no railway station at Glasgow Airport.

Poppyfields21 · 26/02/2020 07:09

I definitely do not think she was happy with the hierarchy. She has shown she wants to be the centre of attention at all times and having to know her place clearly didn’t suit her. She also didn’t understand the concept of hierarchy in the family and this being different to misogyny. She regularly broke protocol under the guise of feminism.

MissEliza · 26/02/2020 07:27

@SummerPlace yes when I said Glasgow airport I meant Glasgow airport Hmm. Prestwick is quite a distance away. As pp have said there's no train from Glasgow airport.

Roussette · 26/02/2020 07:29

She has shown she wants to be the centre of attention at all times and having to know her place clearly didn’t suit her

That's your perception and not the view of those on this thread AFAIC. I have no idea about her breaking protocol under the guise of feminism?? Is this something ridiculous like how her legs were when she was sat down?!

This is a positive thread. Personally I don't look for negativity and fault with H&M and everything they do.

Hope Harry gets on OK in Scotland.

I love the sound of this...

'The Duke of Sussex will kick things off on Wednesday with a summit for Travalyst, a sustainable tourism partnership that he launched last year

Harry is expected to unveil a new holiday scheme with a ‘scoring system’ to help jet-setters pick environmentally-friendly flights.'

Good on him.

Dozer · 26/02/2020 07:30

No one should be expected to curtsy to the Queen! Ridiculous.

LaurieMarlow · 26/02/2020 07:31

Is any of this based on anything other than ‘bollocks I read in the DM’?

And when did she break ‘protocol’ pray?

Roussette · 26/02/2020 07:31

I do think all the curtsying stuff will die out once the Queen dies.

SetPhasersTaeMalkie · 26/02/2020 07:34

This is a positive thread. Personally I don't look for negativity and fault with H&M and everything they do.

👍👏

GracefulHippo · 26/02/2020 07:35

Rousette, this is the only thread.

I like the environmental initiatives. I just hope there will be no more private jets. Private jets are awful for the environment (I hope the reports that JP Morgan sent a private jet was wrong) and will take a lot of attention away from the message.

SetPhasersTaeMalkie · 26/02/2020 07:36

The curtsying is ridiculous. I would laugh if anyone asked me to curtsy to somebody.

LaurieMarlow · 26/02/2020 07:38

What happened the ‘other’ thread?

Though I’m sure I’m not allowed to ask that.

Poppyfields21 · 26/02/2020 07:41

@Roussette sorry I thought this was a public discussion forum? Am I not allowed to share my opinion?

Poppyfields21 · 26/02/2020 07:43

I also am fully in support of their environmental initiatives but it is imperative that they live in the way they preach. So far they’ve shown themselves to be hypocrites on that front, and as they lack any actual detailed knowledge or kudos on that front they need to tread very carefully or they will further tarnish their image.

Roussette · 26/02/2020 07:45

Rousette, this is the only thread

I know and it would be great to keep it, and keep it happy.

There are a lot of people out there (like my DCs) who are very environmentally aware and if there was some sort of 'scoring system' for working out damage to the environment with trips/aircraft/whatever, they would be all over it like a rash. So if Harry can get this off the ground in some way, that would be great

His initiative is being backed by SkyScanner, Trip Advisor and Booking.com... all sites I and my family use!

GracefulHippo · 26/02/2020 07:46

Of course you are Poppy. Good with a variety of opinion to avoid it turning into an echo chamber. Smile

LaurieMarlow · 26/02/2020 07:46

Am I not allowed to share my opinion?

You’ll find that opinion more scrutinised here than on ‘other’ threads.

So yes, the protocol point. When was it broken? Also sources for your points on hierarchy. Your own head doesn’t count btw.

GracefulHippo · 26/02/2020 07:47

Rousette, do you think that it is a good thing that Prince Harry takes private Jets? Do you not think it distracts from his message?

Roussette · 26/02/2020 07:48

sorry I thought this was a public discussion forum? Am I not allowed to share my opinion?

And where did I say you couldn't? I just answered you on this thread for those that are happy for H&M, that's all.

Roussette · 26/02/2020 07:51

GracefulHippo security wise I expect sometimes he has to, maybe he is cutting that down and I applaud anyone who starts an initiative like this. It wouldn't stop me or my family checking it out. We wouldn't think... 'who does he think he is, starting this when he flew by private jet last month'. That's not my mindset, I'd think what a brilliant idea.

BonnesVacances · 26/02/2020 07:54

Lol at the folk who come on here and trying to slag H&M off! Yes there's free discussion, but chat forum etiquette is that discussion is as per the thread title. So if you're not happy for H&M, you're not going to get the reception you want on this thread.
