Well here we are, another thread for those who wish to discuss. We are not nasty, but we do call account on what is going on, and and what taxpayers pay for.

@DandyDuchess

Enjoy and thank you for the chat.

Bye and I'm sorry if you feel I didn't @ or name you properly.

I did agree with the point you made.

I know. It would have been hard not to.

kayaking
OK so Madonna has offered her New York pad to Harry and Meghan because Canada is 'boring'.

Just looked at that.

Oh dear. Their "brand" isn't going to bestride the woke world like, eg, the Obamas' one does, if A listers (Brad Pitt, now Madonna) keep taking the piss out of them.

IsntCoffeeWonderful · 05/02/2020 14:46

LaM, yep I got that vibe too.

It’s a twee diminutive that’s signals:
ownership,
a voyeuristic and inappropriate glimpse of intimacy, and
a belittling,
all wrapped up in one.

Added to that the constant touching and leaning in in front of him....Utterly, utterly boaksome.

My spidey narcdar went into overdrive.

KayakingOnDown · 05/02/2020 14:49

Even the way that Evening Standard article is written is taking the piss out of them. Subtly.

IsntCoffeeWonderful · 05/02/2020 14:56

LaM, they were pretty brutal en masse at the rather hilarious BAFTAS.

Brad Pitt calling his award ‘Harry’ - as he’s “going to bring it back to America”
Rebel Wilson calling the RAH, the royal Andrew.. er... Harry... er palace thing. I found her speech really funny.

I think M and H as I call him’s name is muck now.
It’s hard to come back after you’re the butt of everyones’ jokes.

I wonder how much the RF’s capital has been damaged by MM’s (and Andy’s, to be fair) antics.

Kate and Will were sitting with gritted teeth during the event. Kate looked tired to me. I’d say they’re worried.

WeArnottamused · 05/02/2020 14:59

Isn’tcoffee,

I saw something about that else where online earlier. Be interesting to see what they say about subletting it.

LaMarschallin · 05/02/2020 15:02

Wonderful (I hope I've got this naming thing right now)

LaM, they were pretty brutal en masse at the rather hilarious BAFTAS.

Really?

I only saw the Brad Pitt thing in the paper and did think "Ouch!".

I'll have to watch the rest now Smile

Samcro · 05/02/2020 15:13

@yolofish has anything happened with H&M? i Have been busy in rl so was surprised to see a new thread. have I missed something?

IsntCoffeeWonderful · 05/02/2020 15:17

Do watch Rebel Wilson, as she’s really funny.
All the non Americans (UK, South Africans and Australians) were cracking up.
Some Americans were really stoney faced. Tarantino looked like a gargoyle interpretation of himself... he was gurning magnificently and spitting tacks...he didn’t win..

Grahame Norton just killed The Irishman dead... Robert deNero was not amused!

It’s all on you tube.

7Worfs · 05/02/2020 15:20

Dandy come back soon, hopefully there will be less tiresome posting.
Crown Smile

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 05/02/2020 15:22

The topic of this thread, since someone asked, is Harry and Meghan, and all things pertaining. People can say nice things or critical things, as long as they are open to civilised discussion about it.

Attacking posters for their views is not civilised. Feel free to start a fighty thread somewhere else if this is your bag.

I saw the Madonna thing too. I couldn't make up my mind whether she was being ironic, or typically attention seeking. Either way, I don't see H&M (as I call them) taking her up on the offer.

Is Madonna even a friend of theirs?

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 05/02/2020 15:25

In other news, Lizzie Cundy (former "friend" of MM) is all over the Mail for being embroiled in some love tangle. No wonder MM dropped her like a hot potato.

IsntCoffeeWonderful · 05/02/2020 15:28

Imaginary, I wonder, does it matter in the virtue signalling golden circle if she knows even less about them that we do?
I mean Oprah got an invite to the weddin’ and had never met them.

I guess Her Madge has heard of them, as she lived in the UK, was married to guy Richie, and also and conveniently needs someone to live in her NY flat.

FramboiseRoyale · 05/02/2020 15:44

A couple of jokes at Bafta does not equate to being "the butt of everyone's jokes."

yolofish · 05/02/2020 15:47

Oprah had never met them???

What fresh hell is this? How did I miss this?

OP posts:
FramboiseRoyale · 05/02/2020 15:53

Oprah had established a relationship with Doria before the wedding; Oprah was supportive of Meghan and Doria in particular because of the racism that had been directed toward both of them, but especially toward Meghan. Prominent women of colour in the US do often tend to show solidarity with other WOC on the matter of racism.

FramboiseRoyale · 05/02/2020 15:55

Inviting Oprah to the wedding was a way of acknowledging her support in the wake of racism having reared its ugly head in the UK.

rockingchaircandle · 05/02/2020 15:57

I didn't think Brad Pitt was laughing at Harry so much as with him & thought it was quite sweet! He was just trying to be topical with his Brexit/RF stuff. And I thought W&K did a good job of looking like they didn't mind, so I genuinely thought they didn't.

Regarding the content of the thread, people will disagree and I think it's fine to say so. Strong feeling on both sides. DandyDuchess I've found pretty balanced even when I've disagreed so that's a shame.

And with @'ing you can definitely turn off notifications and I keep meaning to get round to it!

FramboiseRoyale · 05/02/2020 16:00

I agree that Brad Pitt's comment came across as affectionate toward Harry. I am fairly sure that's how it was perceived at least by the Americans.

LaMarschallin · 05/02/2020 16:12

So, Oprah didn't know MM but was invited to the wedding as a reward for showing solidarity with Doria? Who she didn't know until Doria's daughter got engaged to someone well known?

And Brad Pitt was gently laughing along with Harry by comparing him with a BAFTA trophy, safe in the knowledge that Americans would see the joke?

IsntCoffeeWonderful · 05/02/2020 16:18

Everyone laughed.
That’s the point.

Sweet /good humoured / affectionate/ whatever you’re calling it:
the cat’s out of the bag... the mystery has evaporated, the curtain has been pulled aside... their feet are deemed to be of clay... etc etc etc..
it’s now officially ok to laugh at them and their antics.

There was the whisper of steel against B-list Megs in the A-list banter, make no mistake.

FramboiseRoyale · 05/02/2020 16:21

Brad Pitt's joke was clearly affectionate toward Harry.

In African American culture, solidarity on the issue of racism is one of the paramount values. It's one of the reasons that POC who might never have met refer to each other as brother and sister and who might have particular regard to people who have shown public support for them.

FramboiseRoyale · 05/02/2020 16:24

I think Brad's joke was a bit a poke at the British RF, too. Comedians and others have been joking about various members of the RF for a very long time. That cat left the bag many years ago.

rockingchaircandle · 05/02/2020 16:30

Yes, I can't see anything negative in the Brad or Oprah stories @Framboise.

If the 'dignity' cat hadn't left the bag before It's a Royal Knockout it definitely made a break for it then! www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/was-this-the-day-when-royalty-lost-the-plot-1305932.html I don't think that can be pinned on Meghan but obviously can't be sure...Wink

LaMarschallin · 05/02/2020 16:34

Brad Pitt's joke was clearly affectionate toward Harry.

Fair enough.

I'm sure Harry chortled along with the image of him as a trophy being lugged back to America by its winner.

Personally, I think Brad could have been a bit kinder and waited for the Oscars.

I think Brad's joke was a bit a poke at the British RF, too. Comedians and others have been joking about various members of the RF for a very long time. That cat left the bag many years

I'm sure you're right.

So what has old H got to offer? It seems to me that being a member of the RF is his USP.

IsntCoffeeWonderful · 05/02/2020 16:45

I think it was a specific and particular jibe to M and H Framboise.

IMO it’s open season for M and H now.

To my mind it’s a “don’t even think of rocking up in LA” warning from the A-listers.
