Well here we are, another thread for those who wish to discuss. We are not nasty, but we do call account on what is going on, and and what taxpayers pay for.

OP posts:

It was the suggested title I find distasteful - it is in the news at the moment because it was used as a tribute from fellow Monty Python stars to Terry Jones at his funeral .

SunsetBoulevard3 · 08/02/2020 11:07

paid work.

Wife touts husband around for paid gigs to talk about his grief. I don't call that work.

peridito · 08/02/2020 11:09

Careful worfs you don't know where I've been .Plus you don't want me to be immortal do you ? Grin

7Worfs · 08/02/2020 11:10

you don't want me to be immortal do you

Oh snap Grin

rockingchaircandle · 08/02/2020 11:10

Grin as if there was ever any chance any work they do would have been approved of on this thread!

annielouise · 08/02/2020 11:20

"It was the suggested title I find distasteful - it is in the news at the moment because it was used as a tribute from fellow Monty Python stars to Terry Jones at his funeral ."

If anyone would laugh at it, it would be Monty Python.

I’m still haunted by the thought of Eternal peridito, commenting and raining on parades, forever. Grin

peridito · 08/02/2020 11:52

Yes and there's this aspect to consider - the attack results in the attacked one rising up ......

LaMarschallin · 08/02/2020 12:05

Perdito

It was the suggested title I find distasteful - it is in the news at the moment because it was used as a tribute from fellow Monty Python stars to Terry Jones at his funeral .

Oh gosh.

That is way too convoluted a comparison for me.
The obvious association was the mention of "Candle in the Wind" and then the talk of funeral tributes.

It didn't occur to me to think of Terry Jones. I don't think he and his family and friends would be that determined to seek offence.

Does that mean we shouldn't suggest that Haich tries to "Always Look on the Bright Side of Life" when he's down?

Ah. Maybe not then.

Sadly, I don't think we'd be allowed "He's not the etc" as a title by MNHQ.

peridito · 08/02/2020 12:18

LaM - yes I expect you're right ,Terry Jones' rels probably not glued to MN .

Just my view ,I know I don't always see things the way others do !

Dont think it was that convoluted ,depends if you were reading thread at the time ,the title suggestion and my view were several posts before the CITW .AFAIR .

peridito · 08/02/2020 12:20

I suppose I'm more sensitive about Terry Jones because of sightings of him being accompanied in his later years for walks on Hampstead Heath by Palin . Sad .

GoFiguire · 08/02/2020 12:22

How about “Don’t drop your Aitches” for the new thread title?

LaMarschallin · 08/02/2020 12:33

rockingchaircandle

So, two people who'd said they were going to start doing paid work, do some paid work.

And the vultures descend.

The thing is, vultures only descend on a corpse.

The corpse here, imo, is the pretence that H&M are not going to be rent-a-celebs. That's surely died a death.

They want to be philanthropists? Most proper philanthropists have earned money doing something they're good at (eg JK Rowling; Bill & Melinda Gates) and give money - as well as their famous names - to the cause.

H&M have nothing but their famous names (and I would suggest that MM's name only became famous on her marriage) to offer.

But they still now have to earn money for themselves. How much that is depends on the lifestyle they want.

They could still live a really lovely life on the money they already have (plus the top-ups from prince Charles) and loan their names to charity for free.

Initially, the security payments could be difficult but, if they just carried on quietly supporting causes, the public interest would plummet as would the security costs.

Ultimately, they have nothing to offer apart from a connection with the RF.

IsntCoffeeWonderful · 08/02/2020 12:36

I think the venality of h and m is disgusting... it was always about the money.

It turns my stomach, and I’m a battle hardened vulture at this point.

They are absolutely repellent.

peridito · 08/02/2020 12:44

I think the venality of h and m is disgusting... it was always about the money

I suppose I'm not allowed to ask what you're basing this statement on ?

LaMarschallin · 08/02/2020 12:45

Dont think it was that convoluted ,depends if you were reading thread at the time ,

I must admit that I wasn't.
I need my beauty sleep (ahem Blush) you know.

the title suggestion and my view were several posts before the CITW .AFAIR .

I think you recall incorrectly. The thread title popped up well before the CITW ref.

I appreciate that your sensitivity about the death of Terry Jones may have skewed how you read things.

LaMarschallin · 08/02/2020 12:47

Sorry!
Missed out Perdito from my previous post.

peridito · 08/02/2020 12:47

Can't you just be a philanthropist ?
Do you have to be a proper philanthropist with the proper being defined as doing something you're good at first ?

LaMarschallin · 08/02/2020 12:50

And your view was after the CITW ref, Perdito.

Sorry - this is coming in dribs and drabs

Either MN or my phone is slow today.

peridito · 08/02/2020 12:50

LaM The thread title popped up well before the CITW ref isn't that what I said ?.

ie
the title suggestion and my view were several posts before the CITW

or am I going ( more ) bonkers ?

SunsetBoulevard3 · 08/02/2020 12:52

www.google.com/search?client=safari&rls=en&q=philanthropist&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8

Definition of a philanthropist. Someone who donates money to worthy causes. They aren't donating, they are profiting.

CanIHaveATiaraPlease · 08/02/2020 12:57

Maybe they are donating the fee from their appearance at JPM? I hope so

peridito · 08/02/2020 12:58

How do you know that H&M are not making any donations and that they are making a profit ? What are they making a profit from ?
