Well here we are, another thread for those who wish to discuss. We are not nasty, but we do call account on what is going on, and and what taxpayers pay for.

OP posts:
7Worfs · 08/02/2020 09:08

Peridito your posts are hilarious 😆
Keep ‘em coming!

LaMarschallin · 08/02/2020 09:09

Oh dear.
It's silly, I know, but it's all too easy to think of Life of Brian quotes that fit.

Like when the Wise Men from JP Morgan want to see Har... I mean the Messiah and Megh... Mandy is initially quite protective:

Wise Man: Well-- well, we must see him. We have brought presents.

Mandy: Out!

Wise Man: Gold. Frankincense. Myrrh.

Mandy: OH! Well, why didn't you say? He's over there..

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 08/02/2020 09:21

Tagging you back, @SummerPlace!Wink

Meghan could because it was her first Cof E wedding

Wasn't Camilla's wedding to Andrew Parker Bowles a Catholic service, which would make her marriage to Charles her first Cof E wedding?

Yes, you could be right, thinking about it. I never could quite get to the bottom of why it was OK for Meghan but not Camilla.

7Worfs · 08/02/2020 09:21

Lol, LaM Grin

When life imitates art.

LaMarschallin · 08/02/2020 09:33

Perdito

but don't you think using a funeral tribute for one famous person to mock another famous person is not a joke .But just distasteful

Personally, I thought the "distasteful" ship had sailed when a pop star recycled an old hit of his to sing at a the funeral of the mother of the future king.

If we've got to have the RF they could at least try to stick with the dignified and ancient pageantry that's supposed to be the great benefit they bring to our country.

SunsetBoulevard3 · 08/02/2020 09:39

This thread has suddenly taken on new life !

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 08/02/2020 09:51

Quite so, LaM

David Furnish has been gushing on their behalf.

I know how passionately they want to give back and they really feel that they have a platform and an awareness and an opportunity to really do great, great philanthropic work.

He added: 'We have a lot in common with Harry and Meghan. Elton and Prince Harry launched our MenStar Coalition at the International Aids Conference in Amsterdam, we've raised money and given money to Sentebale, his HIV/Aids children's charity work in Lesotho.

'And Meghan and he both share a great love of Africa and so much of the work we do is based in Africa.'

Talk about hitching your waggon...

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 08/02/2020 09:53

And I would add that if they really want to give back, a good start might be to take less.

GoFiguire · 08/02/2020 10:12

I want Harry to wear a lumberjack shirt.

LaMarschallin · 08/02/2020 10:18

I've not read the papers yet, but have they definitely said they're not attending the Oscars at all?

Or could it be they want to give the message that they said:
"Li'l ol' us? Give THE BEST PICTURE AWARD? You must think we're important or something Blush. No, no... we'll just sit at this tiny table near the stage (so we don't get in any famous person's way while they're walking up to collect their awards)".

(Okay - truth is, that like Tiara I'd be very keen to see what M would wear. I'm being too hopeful, aren't I?)

SunsetBoulevard3 · 08/02/2020 10:22

And I would add that if they really want to give back, a good start might be to take less.

This really sums it all up actually.

Fleas. Summerplace. The wedding thing wasn't just about Camilla though. Charles had also been married and in a CofE ceremony.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 08/02/2020 10:39

But Charles was a widower (after the divorce) so he would have been ok.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 08/02/2020 10:41

It was all a bit of a mess wasn't it? Things kept going wrong. I do remember the Pope dying and thought "If that isn't a sign..."

annielouise · 08/02/2020 10:44

As if we didn't know but it all boils down to greed - for money, more fame, lifestyle, praise, being put on a pedestal.

All of these things could have been achieved with a lower-key role in the RF. Perhaps a bit of time off. Less acting like 'stars', less attention seeking and trying to draw attention to themselves.

But they didn't want that. It was the money all along. I truly think M has hoodwinked H. Shocked that he would be this mercenary. He's a plonker. I blame them both.

H talking that he's been in therapy seven years is not about helping others but selling himself for money.

Butterymuffin · 08/02/2020 10:45

While I think David Furnish is simply making fuzzy noises, it is the Africa AIDS charity work with Sentebale where Harry has some knowledge and something distinctive to offer. That would be the obvious focus for any philanthropic efforts. He would be able to talk about his visits to Africa. If he really wants to do something worthwhile with his life and 'give back' that would be the way and would also honour his mother's memory.

rockingchaircandle · 08/02/2020 10:46

So, two people who'd said they were going to start doing paid work, do some paid work.

And the vultures descend.

7Worfs · 08/02/2020 10:49

hiss hiss croak croak

annielouise · 08/02/2020 10:54

I think C&C were playing it safe. I think a church wedding would have started to drag up more bad feeling among the public about them so they kept it low key. After all Camilla would be around for a long time and would assume a more important role than M so the path had to be smoothed as much as they could. Plus C well into her 50s by then so can't imagine she'd want to wear a white wedding dress walking up the aisle. M of course acted the role of a demure virgin as she bravely walked up the aisle.

meercat23 · 08/02/2020 10:54

Fleas. Ah, that's right. The first marriage would have been ended by Diana's death so the issue of the first marriage would not have been relevant to the church. No idea why the church would not allow their marriage in church but did allow H&M then.

peridito · 08/02/2020 10:55

Worfs - you're welcome , you're not one of the scroll on past readers then ? Good for you taking in all views .

LaM I quite agree with your post

If we've got to have the RF they could at least try to stick with the dignified and ancient pageantry that's supposed to be the great benefit they bring to our country
but to be clear it was the suggested title for a new thread that I found distasteful ,nothing to do with RF funerals ..

And I would add that if they really want to give back, a good start might be to take less
We don't know how much they are receiving from PC and his income from the DoC ,nor do we know if they contribute to any security costs . We don't know how much they are "taking " .

peridito · 08/02/2020 11:01

This thread has suddenly taken on new life ! vampires and vultures I think .

annielouise · 08/02/2020 11:03

No one has suggested Candle in the Wind for the new thread title as far as I know, only He's not the Messiah, he's a very naughty boy!
