Well here we are, another thread for those who wish to discuss. We are not nasty, but we do call account on what is going on, and and what taxpayers pay for.

OP posts:
annielouise · 07/02/2020 23:07

I vote that being the next thread heading too. Thanks to Ruby, 7worfs and inadvertently peridito.

DandyDuchess · 07/02/2020 23:07

Declining the invitation and then making it known they were invited is really well played, I am genuinely impressed.

Agreed. And I wonder if it's particularly well played to allow them to go the afterparties at least? They've planted the seed of association of them being there. But this way they'd be going in a far less showy capacity than they could have been, so it won't look as bad. It's all relative.

annielouise · 07/02/2020 23:12

I wonder if they'll get their paws on an Oscar's goody bag - according to Forbes valued at £164k. Just obscene.

RubyViolet · 07/02/2020 23:15

I would be very surprised if they go to the after parties, surely it’s too soon to be seen partying ? It doesn’t fit their woe is me narrative. Any good PR would tell them hold off partying... publicly of course.

annielouise · 07/02/2020 23:16

According to the DM, JPMorgan's gulfstream jet flew from Vancouver to Palm Beach in time for the event. I hope it comes out they flew private.

Justmuddlingalong · 07/02/2020 23:22

And the award for environmental hypocrisy goes to...

Lunde · 08/02/2020 01:01

MissEliza - I find this monetising of grief distasteful. I had a family member who would use a trauma he'd been through to 'win' every family argument. Harry is starting to remind me of him.

I reckon that it must be pretty upsetting for PW to see his mother's name and death basically being reduced to a money making mechanisms to exploit, almost like a buzz word. What ever the event, whatever the subject H&M seem to be using their platform to talk about themselves, while making sure to drop Diana's name ...

Hurtful to William who also has to deal with the same grief himself and was just 2 years older - but is getting on with the job at a MH event today in with a lot less glitz and glamour

Do you think they came on stage to Candle in the Wind?

SummerPlace · 08/02/2020 06:10

@Myimaginarycathasfleas
Firstly, I would like to apologise for tagging you, but as I haven't posted on these threads before and I thought that my post would get lost in the shuffle.

Meghan could because it was her first Cof E wedding Wasn't Camilla's wedding to Andrew Parker Bowles a Catholic service, which would make her marriage to Charles her first Cof E wedding?

I don't live in the UK, so I'm not aware of all the niceties of protocol. Thanks

Ritascornershop · 08/02/2020 06:29

@KayakingOnDown It’s late at night in western Canada, so I haven’t rtwt, but am killing myself laughing at you saying Vancouver Island is small and has one road. The Island is almost 500 kilometres long and close to 860,000 people live here. I think if they wanted to go unnoticed they could (particularly Harry as he’s not unusual looking - Meghan is unusually pretty so a bit more noticeable).

MrsJoshNavidi · 08/02/2020 06:32

Alms for an ex prince!GrinGrin. Good one!

It's about time PH grew up and put his grief in a box. He's not the only child to have lost a parent. But he is the only one to not have to just get in with the daily grind.
Having to Jean your own crust is a great way to take your mind off life's upsets. Playing house with your new wife and child 100% of the time leaves too much time for thinking

FizzyLimes · 08/02/2020 07:09

Speaking of Candle in the Wind David Furnish has weighed in and said that H&M want to give back and achieve great philanthropic work.

...Erm excuse me; but isn’t that exactly what their job was as members of the RF? But shaking hands with pensioners in Mumbles, and visiting commonwealth countries didn’t give them the right sort of Optics, not to mention PayDay.

Even though Meghan has always been a hustler, I wonder how this new lifestyle sits with Harry. He was raised by Diana and Charles to serve, and in private( visits to homeless shelters, rubbish collecting on the beach etc). Meghan seems to have no concept that charity can be anonymous and given; expecting nothing in return.

bohemia14 · 08/02/2020 07:30

I still can't quite get my head around that one day when Meghan came back from Canada. She spent the day grinning and simpering at the Canadian Embassy, thanking the Canadian people for their hospitality and then went straight back there. It was a total 'fuck you' to the British people. And that night they 'pressed the button' on the future. Just why? And why did the Queen allow such outrageous behaviour to go unpunished. She should have stripped them of their titles straight away. When does the Spring start?

7Worfs · 08/02/2020 07:31

One tactical error re the Oscars - they shouldn’t have shared which category.

I get that they wanted to signal they were offered the most important category as it’s in line with the image obsession, but now whoever is presenting it will be looking like a second fiddle.

If it were me after that ‘leak’ I’d just turn it down. Really curious who accepted it.

Also what’s in those goodie bags Shock I’ll have a look later, setting up slow cooker atm!

GoFiguire · 08/02/2020 07:39

I hope Rebel Wilson presents the Best Picture category.

And am I the only one who thinks PH is turning into Paul Burrell?

derxa · 08/02/2020 07:48

Oh dear Harrry

wincarwoo · 08/02/2020 07:49

I u j hi

StartupRepair · 08/02/2020 08:08

Thing is Harry has one story to tell as a keynote speaker. Mummy, military, Meghan. Once he has been on Ellen no-one is going to pay him to tell the story again as a keynote.

CanIHaveATiaraPlease · 08/02/2020 08:15

I’d love to be a fly on the wall at the next royal get together.

KayakingOnDown · 08/02/2020 08:15

@Ritascornershop I didn't mean there is literally one road, but if you were stuck on the coast road behind or in front of H&M you'd soon know about it. It's a relatively small island and it's not somewhere you could really hide, in their position. There have been lots of reports saying that they are very visible and conspicuous with their security following them everywhere - even the security cause a bit of a sensation when they're out and about on their own.

Somewhere to hide away inconspicuously it ain't. They'd be better going to a city for that.

But I don't see them staying in Canada for long.

FizzyLimes · 08/02/2020 08:28

Apparently they’re looking for digs / mansion in LA for the summer.
Their “Royal situation” is supposed to be up for review in 12 months.
If they’re really going to be earning the reported $100million a year; they should be funding their own security.
Given the Diana debacle; they shouldn’t rely on private security; but they should be reimbursing the Met for their police bodyguards.
Also; why on Earth is Prince Charles giving them £2million a year. The mind boggles.

CanIHaveATiaraPlease · 08/02/2020 08:30

I have to say from a fashion POV I’m a bit gutted they aren’t doing the oscars as I would love to have seen Meghan’s outfit.

Nanalisa60 · 08/02/2020 08:36

They won’t stay in Canada long!!

Meghan will be back in California as soon as she can to become the New Queen of Hollywood!!

And Harry will be paraded round tinsel town like a prize pony!!

But as long as they are both happy that all that matters!!

I wish them the best of luck in there new life on the other side of the pond, and I personally don’t care if they never put a foot back in the UK again.

Nanalisa60 · 08/02/2020 08:40

CanIHaveATiarePlease

I would not worry, as sure as cat is a hairy beastie they will be there in 2021

Only twelve months to wait!!

peridito · 08/02/2020 08:41

I know what the answer will be ,but don't you think using a funeral tribute for one famous person to mock another famous person is not a hilarious joke .But just distasteful and nasty ? But of course this thread is not nasty .
