Well here we are, another thread for those who wish to discuss. We are not nasty, but we do call account on what is going on, and and what taxpayers pay for.

OP posts:

He'll just look like a spare part. Unless his brief is to go round tapping up more people for work for her.

astrogirl99 · 06/02/2020 08:47

@ FramboiseRoyale I take your point re Oprah at the wedding.

It is important to note that Oprah’s reputation has been irretrievably tarnished in the eyes of many African Americans in light of her silence regarding her friend Harvey Weinstein’s disgusting behaviour, while forging ahead with very public take-downs of African American men accused of similar crimes.

Is Oprah- like Meghan and Harry - also happy to be paying Sunshine Sachs for PR, knowing their most high profile client is Harvey Weinstein?

Until Harry came along Meghan had zero record of charity or social justice work.

Zero comment on black lives matter and other key black social justice movements.

And zero mention of Black History Month, ever.

(She did however gladly fawn over Ivanka Trump for a Tig story a few years back).

Those of us out here with a genuine interest in and knowledge of anti-racist social movements are not looking to Meghan for inspiration on that front.

Cheers!

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 06/02/2020 08:48

NO-ONE at the Oscars is going to appreciate being upstaged by part time British royalty. Bad move.

LaMarschallin · 06/02/2020 08:54

Just a general "sorry" to "Tiara" - I obviously came across as far more harsh than I intended.

But I consider myself properly told off.

peridito · 06/02/2020 08:56

So somewhere on the internet someone is talking about how M&H might go the Oscars .

And here on this bit of the internet we are labelling their attendance pathetic and hypocritical ( they say they want a quiet life ! ) before it's even happened .

I guess in the absence of any news about H&M, imagining what they might do and finding it distasteful fills a void .

EthelMayFergus · 06/02/2020 08:57

I really hope they don't go to The Oscars. I've defended MM at work, saying she's clearly in love with H - and I've been accused of being gullible. If they go to the Oscars then I'll have to accept that my colleagues are correct and I am in fact very gullible.

kirinm · 06/02/2020 09:01

I only pop in and out of these threads and don't read many of the gossip sites that are relied on here but a genuine question. Have any of the rumours on these websites proved to be true yet?

yolofish · 06/02/2020 09:08

kirinm I think Blind Gossip is said to be quite accurate, but I'm sure someone knows more than me - I only ever click on it if there's a link in a MN thread.

OP posts:
peridito · 06/02/2020 09:11

Why shouldn't they go to the Oscars ? It's a big night out ,a social event ?

If they are to continue with supporting charaties and patronages they surely need to network and have a profile ? How will Harry and Meghan continue to support the Queen and attend any functions where she requires her grandson's presence if they are expected to shun all events ?

Butterymuffin · 06/02/2020 09:21

Think Blind Gossip were publishing stories about them wanting to move to North America before it came out.

peridito Not sure what void you're filling by spending time commenting that you don't like the comments and there's nothing to comment about..

Butterymuffin · 06/02/2020 09:22

Why shouldn't they go to the Oscars ? It's a big night out ,a social event ?

I'd quite like to go on that basis.. Wonder when my invite will arrive?

kirinm · 06/02/2020 09:24

Do you mean that blind gossip was saying they wanted to move before they announced it? Because lots of papers were too. I'd be interested to hear if it's right about the oscars although like someone else said, I'm not sure what them going is meant to prove.

kirinm · 06/02/2020 09:25

Are you famous Buttery?

ajandjjmum · 06/02/2020 09:35

I suppose it just shows that they're not hiding away and enjoying the peace and tranquility - but are up for getting on a plane to LA where there will be hoards of people (and photographers). Proves nothing, other than confirming that their intention is not to shun the highlife.

Seriously.....do you not know who Buttery is?!!! Shock Grin

7Worfs · 06/02/2020 09:37

The Oscars is not for famous people. Confused
It’s for all who have worked on notable movies in the past year. I hope that includes many off-screen talented people and their +1s.

7Worfs · 06/02/2020 09:38

And for any non-film related sleb there, one non-famous film worker loses their spot.

LaMarschallin · 06/02/2020 09:39

I hadn't realised how difficult it is to get tickets, but the following makes it sound quite hard:

www.latimes.com/entertainment/movies/la-et-mn-oscars-tickets-20180228-story.html

I'm not sure that just being famous (or notorious) would be enough.

Have any royals gone before?

And, despite being an actress, surely there would have been no question of MM going before her marriage.

But perhaps the two of them together will prove greater than the sum of their parts.

(Buttery, if your invitation arrives would you consider putting my name forward as one of the randomers who fills your seat when you pop to the loo? Apparently, that's a job.

The seat-filling, not the loo-popping)

peridito · 06/02/2020 09:47

Not sure what void you're filling by spending time commenting that you don't like the comments and there's nothing to comment about

I thought personal attacks on posters weren't approved on this thread ?..

7Worfs · 06/02/2020 09:51

Ah that’s a great link LaM
Confirms how I pictured the process.

It’s an industry event for many many people, not just the actors. Miscellaneous slebs that shouldn’t be there are probably loathed.

Butterymuffin · 06/02/2020 09:55

Glad someone is aware of my star power ajandjjmum! LaMarschallin you will be first on my waiting list to be loo-break-coverer Smile

peridito if my comment is a personal attack, isn't your original one about how you suppose speculation fills a void (to which I was responding) the same? I would think so. If both get reported then MN can decide, can't they?

CanIHaveATiaraPlease · 06/02/2020 10:00

Thank you for the apology LaM especially as it was my error in the first place

Moving on - brilliant link LaM

kirinm · 06/02/2020 10:15

Did they ever say they were planning on hiding? No. They said they wanted to step down from being senior royals. I know everyone here will attack them for daring to leave their home or attack them for staying away but I'm not sure they ever claimed to want to hide.

peridito · 06/02/2020 10:15

Buttery you made your post personal by using "you're " as in referencing me specifically .

My post was a general observation and singled no one out ,on this thread or the media .

peridito · 06/02/2020 10:18

Do you want the posts reported ?

Seems a bit childish if you do ,almost as if your intention is to use MNHQ as an arbitrator between posters rather than moderators trying to get posters to follow talk guidelines .

Butterymuffin · 06/02/2020 10:29

To be honest peridito I'd just like to stay on topic without reams of posts about how pointless, personal or otherwise unacceptable the posts here are. MN have asked people to report if they find something unacceptable so if you do, do that rather than moaning for post after post when you seem mainly to be here to moan about the existence of the thread anyway.

Right, I am going back to the thorny issue of which dress to wear to the Oscars Wink That Blind Gossip piece says the person already has a dress picked out. Is Givenchy still Meghan's go to designer of choice?
