Well here we are, another thread for those who wish to discuss. We are not nasty, but we do call account on what is going on, and and what taxpayers pay for.

Calm down, children, calm down.

I am going to the Oscarsso I will ask H&M personally what they think of this thread.

peridito · 06/02/2020 10:46

I made a remark about how H&M were being discussed on line which seems on topic for a thread that is to discuss and "call account on what's going on " .

If you dont want "reams " of posts about how pointless, personal or otherwise unacceptable the posts here are" I suggest you avoid responding to a perfectly reasonable observation with a remark about how I spend my time .Comment on the observation not the poster .

Good to know that everyone is welcome on this thread .

I’ve chosen my Oscars dress THIS ONE

I’m not usually a fan of strapless but this dress calls for it.

yolofish · 06/02/2020 11:12

Hmm. "Networking". I wonder what networking is to be done at Oscars ceremony itself, I should think its mostly done at the before and after parties. And for the most part would be about the film industry - finance being a pretty big topic I'd have thought, along with casting, etc etc. What would H&M be bringing to that particular discussion?

Lightbulb moment! H is setting up a production company to provide vehicles for M!

nice frock 7worfs! At the BAFTAs they were asked to wear something they'd worn before, as a nod to the environment etc. Are you sure you don't have something suitable in your wardrobe already?

GoFiguire · 06/02/2020 11:32

I raise you to this hessian sack turned into a dress. I win on sustainability.

but I seem to remember a convo about how, if she wanted to, HMQ could prevent him leaving the country.

This is highly unlikely. For one thing, Archie is an American citizen.

Harry came along Meghan had zero record of charity or social
justice work.

This is simply untrue.

Also on the “quiet life” bit. Where have they actually said that? They want a life on their own terms, but they have indicated from the beginning of their movement in a different direction that they intend to play a public role. Of course, they are having meetings and making plans.

yolofish · 06/02/2020 12:39

The HMQ thing being able to stop Archie from leaving the country was something to do with some ancient statute about the monarch's progeny being the property of the monarch IIRC. Highly unlikely to be used but I think technically possible!

"A quiet life" or "life on their own terms"? There was a lot of talk about the press intrusion, but perhaps what they didnt realise was that actually inside the Royal fold they had a better chance of keeping them at bay than outside it.

Just catching up.

Curious to see what dress Buttery will be wearing since, as seat-holder in chief (self-appointed), I should wear something similar but less grand.

My underwear will be by Tena Lady I suppose, since I doubt seat-keepers get any chance to go to the loo themselves.

And we should arrive on a tandem to demonstrate our green credentials.

Getting quite excited now!

7Worfs · 06/02/2020 13:12

It’s news to me that Archie is an American citizen.
Is this confirmed or do we assume dual citizenship?

yolofish · 06/02/2020 13:16

I wondered that 7, or do you just get it by being born to an American?

OP posts:
7Worfs · 06/02/2020 13:17

I vaguely recall something published around wedding time that MM had to give up American citizenship as Royals can’t have dual allegiances etc.

Anyone recall or have definite info?

LaMarschallin · 06/02/2020 13:26

Anyone recall or have definite info?

I don't have definite info, 7, but thought I'd read somewhere that M's application for British citizenship had been put on hold since the whole Megxit fandango.

My impression was that Archie has dual citizenship: British by virtue of been born here; American because his mother is American.

Don't know for certain, though.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 06/02/2020 13:29

This is quite interesting, in terms of how easy it will be for Harry to get citizenship.

Butterymuffin · 06/02/2020 13:33

I will be arriving on a donkey. That's got to be green.
Dress details will have to follow..

On Archie's citizenship, he must surely be
British. He was born in the UK, with one British parent. I guess Meghan could apply for US citizenship for him but don't see how that could have happened yet.
Re Meghan herself, I thought there had been a discussion about how with the new plans to move back to North America, her application for
British citizenship would be stalled. If that's correct and she doesn't yet have British citizenship, she must still be a US citizen. While there is a history of Royal Family American spouses being frowned upon, I don't think it's prohibited as such. Doesn't our esteemed Prime Minister have dual citizenship on account of being born in New York?

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 06/02/2020 13:47

Archie will surely have dual citizenship. Isn't there something about the US not recognising royal titles, so maybe that's why he hasn't got one.

Meghan I'm sure would not have relinquished her US citizenship if she planned to work there again (and clearly she did). It won't be any old lowly official who gets to process Harry's application, that's for sure.

FramboiseRoyale · 06/02/2020 13:49

Anyone recall or have definite info?

Meghan has not given up her American citizenship. Archie has dual citizenship.

Also that article is wrong saying that Meghan's US citizenship was put in jeopardy by her accepting a title. First of all, she doesn't actually have a title; it's Harry's and she holds it by marriage, not in her own right. Secondly, she is not in a position of authority or trust under the government, etc. For example, the actor/director Christopher Guest has an inherited British title of nobility, but he still has his US citizenship (by birth).

alliwantisagoodnightssleep · 06/02/2020 14:03

Regarding Oscar dresses. Meghan could recycle either of her Wedding Dresses or the extremely expensive Engagement Dress. Can you imagine being a nominee or a winner and H&M turning up. As an actress she never got close to an invite so if it was me I would be embarrassed that all these major Hollywood “stars” would be laughing at me.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 06/02/2020 14:16

Also that article is wrong saying that Meghan's US citizenship was put in jeopardy by her accepting a title.

I think the article was saying it would have been in jeopardy if the 11th Congress amendment had been ratified, but it wasn't. That was my reading anyway.

MissEliza · 06/02/2020 14:29

@alliwantisagoodnightssleep (great name) that's an interesting point that MM apparently never showed her face at the Oscars before. It indicates how low down the pecking order she was. I predict they will be at Elton John's party this year.

yolofish · 06/02/2020 14:39

Our esteemed PM gave up his American citizenship, something to do with having to pay tax in both countries I think.

I still think, IF they come back for Bea's wedding, they won't bring Archie. Flight too long, change in routine too disrupting etc. Jessica Mulroney will probably step in and babysit like she did last time.

Will they take Archie to the Oscars?! He could sick up down her frock!

FramboiseRoyale · 06/02/2020 14:47

It's still wrong. She has not accepted a title. She has no title in her own right, but only the convention in the UK of a woman having the style and title of her husband. Plus the non-ratified amendment was passed by Congress in 1810 and has not been close to being ratified for over 200 years.
