No harm in having it ready for the next event/announcement...

I understood it. Wink

yolofish · 02/02/2020 12:05

parker now you're being disingenous - or have you not rtft, or the 14 preceding?

Froq · 02/02/2020 12:06

did you see the blind the other day about the friend speaking about Harry’s mental health and how it is apparently particularly bad right now?

I did, I thought it was very sad but wouldn’t be at all surprised if it’s true. It would explain why the palace are being so lenient right now.
(I admit I missed your post because it was lost amongst the arguments)

So if they are listed as royals for rent without their consent, shouldn’t there be a lawsuit?

Or at the very least you’d expect the advert to be removed. I did lol at the fact they’re excluding the UK and Europe in any potential offers Grin just those from the Middle East, Asia, India (Asia?!) and US thanks.

'm getting pissed off by being told that we are talking about the situation because we are misogynists, racists, stupid enough to believe everything we read in the papers etc and need to be policed by people with far greater moral rectitude.

Me too..

rockingchaircandle · 02/02/2020 12:12

@DandyAndFine Apologies, I missed this earlier about the reversal on the rating. I was reading about it here www.pressgazette.co.uk/we-were-wrong-us-news-rating-tool-boosts-mail-online-trust-ranking-after-talks-with-unnamed-daily-mail-exec/ and you're right it has been changed to green. I wasn't trying to mislead; I found the original article when I was wondering how the allegations about the DM could be measured and didn't search for any follow up. Apparently, there are still concerns It still regards Mail Online as failing to gather and present information responsibility, handle the difference between news and opinion responsibly and provide the names of content creators with contact information. but that is very different to the original post.

Overall, these stories still seem to fit this cycle, in my opinion:
DM publishes rumours, that deliberately look like they could be true , rumour posted here and discussed, drives traffic to site to check, public exposed to rumour and more likely to believe the next one. DM get money and damage MM's reputation. Job done.

annielouise · 02/02/2020 12:15

peridito: "and nit pick about "hate" v "painted as hateful""

As FelicityFebruary pointed out you took her comment out of context so it is nothing to do with me nit-picking, you using it as an example was completely wrong.

Please stop derailing the thread.

FelicityFebruary · 02/02/2020 12:17

Peredito.

Please stop quoting me ( Juliet) as if I an describing something said by the Sussexes. The UK had been described in some way as horrible or hateful by another poster. Other posters have used sweeping pejorative language about the whole nation.

The Sussex duo may be hating the UK right now but they haven't said so. Then again they don't want to live here much so I don't think they have said they love it here nor do their actions say so.

DandyAndFine · 02/02/2020 12:22

Froq yes I thought that about the leniency too, it does make sense. Although of course I hope it’s not true for his sake.

Lol at Asia & India being different categories.

DandyAndFine · 02/02/2020 12:23

@rockingchaircandle thanks for acknowledging Smile

DandyAndFine · 02/02/2020 12:25

I have a theory about that Instagram post by the company but I’m not going to share it here.

WendyMoiraAngelaDarling · 02/02/2020 12:31

cast aspersions and labelled us as racists righteo ,not hating

Thanks for acknowledging that my post was not "hate" and therefore should not have been on your list of "examples". Smile

@SunsetBoulevard3

I think your reply summarises why people don't speak openly about MH issues. Because PH talked to a counsellor about the impact of his mothers death and a public funeral at a young age doesn't meant that he is suffereing from MH issues now. There is a constant drip from the RF about their concern for PH, his vulnerability, fragility etc and the public are being sold a story of a damaged prince in much the same way as his mother was labelled "damaged". I've got doubts. It all seems too convenient and paints a picture that PH only left the RF because of MH issues because nobody sane would obviously never want to leave!

I am a huge anti-royalist but even I admire the slick machine that is the RF PR machine.

FelicityFebruary · 02/02/2020 12:40

Knowing only about my own posting I am now very suspicious of all of perdito's examples!

Have a great Sunday everyone!

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 02/02/2020 12:40

Parker I can only speak for myself, but I think from these threads others share my view.

As far as MM is concerned I have an aversion to the type of personality she displays when I see her;
interviewed: engaging with others: making speeches: writing and posting for publication.

She is far too self involved for me, we wouldn't be friends irl so why would thing s be different because she is a public figure?

Then I hear stories of how she is demanding and difficult to work for (which may be exaggerated but are numerous enough for me to believe there is some foundation). I have worked with people like this and they are, frankly, a pain in the arse.

Finally the undermining of HMQ by repeatedly trying to break away from BP governance, going off on their own and releasing statements, setting up sussexroyal.com etc etc does not sit well with me.

Some are things she has "done wrong", in my eyes, some are just that I don't like or trust about her.

rockingchaircandle · 02/02/2020 12:49

@yolofish it was this post that made me think about it this morning from @IsntCoffeeWonderful
"I think she’d (Diana) have seen through mm for what she is... an TV actor coming up to her best before date, who saw a vulnerable person who wanted kids in her cross hairs, and decided to invite herself into his life and wedge herself in there with a kid for her own monetary advantage."

I'm not denying there is sexist ageism in Hollywood, at all. But it's been used here as a stick to beat Meghan with, which perpetuates it. The discussion then focused on whether or not her career was any good/whether she was near her sell by date rather than whether/why Meghan was portrayed as old, desperate and manipulative in the first place.

rockingchaircandle · 02/02/2020 12:53

@cakeisalwaystheanswer great summary of the problems with discussing mental health.

7Worfs · 02/02/2020 13:04

I think the government (PM, Home sec, Foreign sec) should look very closely into a few things:

  1. what are the close protection officers being used for
  2. just who exactly are they making overtures for as royals for rent? Very rich Russians, Saudis etc? What if they get involved with parties that go against the U.K. foreign policy? I’d raise the moral issue of what money are they being paid with, but they already accepted accommodation from a Russian with questionable reputation.
DandyAndFine · 02/02/2020 13:13

Rocking and cake do you think the interview this week with Harry’s good friend Nacho, talking about H’s state of mind, was a RF plant? Really awful if they’re paying international polo stars to lie Angry

cakeisalwaystheanswer · 02/02/2020 13:29

It's not about money though is it. Who else is Nacho friends with in the RF? What has he been told by them or asked to let slip? Polo is a very glamorous sport and relies on the attendance and involvement of high profile people like the RF. A professional polo player would have far more reason to be loyal to PC or PW than plain old Harry.

I don't trust the RF PR machine. There is a picture being painted and I am no more convinced by it than I am that the Queen is frugal.

Yes you’re right that a professional polo player has more reason to be loyal to PC or PW. I disagree he’s now “plain old Harry” however but I take your point. However Nacho has known close association with Harry. I don’t know if he has that with PC or PW. It would be a dirty trick indeed if he falsely represented himself as one of Harry’s close friends and deliberately tried to spread rumours. His comments were pro Harry leaving the RF and defending him.

ajandjjmum · 02/02/2020 14:02

I thought we were all friends now - and that it was ok to have different opinions! Confused

rockingchaircandle · 02/02/2020 14:02

I had a quick read here www.insider.com/nacho-figueras-prince-harry-suffered-from-people-judging-him-2020-1 where it's discussing Nacho's contribution to a documentary, is this what you mean? The previous point about loyalties is interesting, maybe Nacho might also like the publicity from talking about Harry. I'd never heard of him before. In the quotes from the article, Nacho's pretty vague but saying that Harry suffered from what had happened to him and wanted to protect his family just seems to be what Harry's said himself. Then I got distracted by a video about nacho doughnuts at the bottom of the article!

@IsntCoffeeWonderful you really can't know about Harry's mental health. I do think this speculation is harmful and unfair.

LaMarschallin · 02/02/2020 14:15

remember, he also smoked pot when he was a teen and had to go to a rehab centre for this.

I thought that because he'd been caught smoking pot (don't know how much or how often) prince Charles had taken him on a tour of a rehab centre to show him the damage drugs could potentially cause.

Afaik, there was nothing about H receiving treatment himself for drug problems.
