A thread for those who wish to discuss what's in the news and what your take on it is.

*Harry & Meghan are perfect examples of 'style over substance'.

God only knows how Harry thinks he can change the world, when he couldn't even pass an A Level.*

I agree. And if we look at The Tig, it's styled on Goop which was created by Gwyneth Paltrow, a well connected Oscar winning actress. Her godfather is Steven Spielberg. The Tig would only ever have been an imitation

All they had to bring to the table was their Royal connection, but they're not going to use their Royal titles now

I think they'll crash and burn. He's a pampered coseted prince and she's a c-list actress. It could have all been so different if they took things slower to begin with and later on T not have rushed out that statement and website

peaceanddove · 26/01/2020 18:33

To be honest I'm just not bothering to read the posts by some posters. I just immediately click past them Smile

DandyAndFine · 26/01/2020 18:34

ty to style over substance.

I think that’s the sum of it.

DandyAndFine · 26/01/2020 18:34

Not ty, yy. Yes yes.

NancyDrewCrew · 26/01/2020 18:35

Someone asked earlier who the leak was to the Sun.
Apologies if posted already. Dan Wootton had the 'exclusive' at Xmas while in NZ and sat on it iirc for 10 days.
Sources are protected so this is hearsay but general feeling was that the leak came from Christian Jones, the communications officer at Kensington Palace.
He and Dan allegedly know each other very very well.
Leaks coming directly from Kensington was already reported on by the Times www.thetimes.co.uk/article/a-royal-rift-j3cft5d3d
and sibling rivalry had been the goss on sleb blinds and the like: the article at the bottom is interesting speculation.

www.royalfoibles.com/the-not-so-fab-four/
But yes money is on Christian Jones for whoever it was asked.

He actually passed 2 A levels but don't let facts get in the way of a clever comment!

@peaceanddove

God only knows how Harry thinks he can change the world, when he couldn't even pass an A Level

Wow. He went into the army and managed to have a role there before the media made his situation untenable and unsafe for the others around him.

You don't need book smarts to make a difference and the inference to those who try their best wherever they are is really sad and disappointing on a site like this.

JulietJanuary · 26/01/2020 18:39

Good work fact checking Rousette.

Roussette · 26/01/2020 18:41

Thank you Juliet I appreciate that.

NancyDrewCrew · 26/01/2020 18:42

Harry's work in fighting HIV stigma has been fanbloodytastic.
Credit where credit's due.

DeTwamps · 26/01/2020 18:42

I don't believe any of them have been known for academia?

Becles · 26/01/2020 18:42

I acknowledged that those two posters were trying, and failing, to encourage evidence based discussion but were being slated when they dared ask for examples or even used facts in their posts. Crown Shock

DeTwamps · 26/01/2020 18:45

This isn't the editorial room at the DM.
We're all just randomers discussing the royals.
I don't fact check every piece of nonsense I spout! And more fool you, if you believe everything everyone says!

DandyAndFine · 26/01/2020 18:46

He went into the army and managed to have a role there before the media made his situation untenable and unsafe for the others around him.

Just to be clear (and factual Wink), given Harry’s disdain for the British media, it wasn’t the British media who disclosed he was serving in Afghanistan as there was a media blackout here. It was an Australian magazine and/or a US website.

CanIHaveATiaraPlease · 26/01/2020 18:47

But it’s the British press that’s made his life a misery. Right.....

DeTwamps · 26/01/2020 18:47

Kate is quite arty I think? No idea what William studied? Did Harry go into the army straight after school? Diana worked in a preschool I think. No idea about Charles whether he went to uni either. He does seem to pontificate about being 'green' though.

WendyMoiraAngelaDarling · 26/01/2020 18:48

I acknowledged that those two posters were trying, and failing, to encourage evidence based discussion

Grin How conceited do you have to be to take yourself onto other threads to tell people they're discussing the subject matter wrong and you're here to tell them the correct way...sorry encourage the correct kind of discussion.

peaceanddove · 26/01/2020 18:48

Harry endangered his fellow soldiers just by being there, among them. I have several family members serving in the armed forces and they weren't appreciative of him indulging his fancies for being a soldier. He was also constantly accompanied by special forces, as I recall.

I do apologise though for not realising he had actually passed two A Levels.

Dongdingdong · 26/01/2020 18:49

The irony is, if they’d actually stayed in London, at KP it could have been less boring for her.

I was really surprised when they quit London for Frogmore. I get the proximity to Heathrow would’ve been a plus, but personally I’d find it quite dull compared to London.

I think there was a lot of heady romantic talk about ‘changing the world’ and unrealistic ideas of what they could do within the confines of the RF.

If you mean unrealistic in terms of having their own brand while working for the RF then I agree. But if they really wanted to “change the world” I’d have thought they could do far more for charities and good causes from within the RF rather than outside of it.

DandyAndFine · 26/01/2020 18:51

Harry got a B in Art and a D in geography apparently (cheers, Google).
I’m impressed with his B in art, it’s a hard one. Or at least it is these days apparently after they changed the syllabus Andrew it less creative.

I wonder if he’s done a portrait of Meghan? Grin

CanIHaveATiaraPlease · 26/01/2020 18:51

IIRC Kate studied history of art. William geography (?) & Charles went to oxbridge. But can’t remember what he studied.

DandyAndFine · 26/01/2020 18:52

I don’t know where that rogue Andrew came from!
But I hope it satisfies those posters who say that Andrew isn’t mentioned enough....

DeTwamps · 26/01/2020 18:53

I think it was on The Crown where it depicts young Charles heading to Gordonstoun where he was bullied. The queen seemed to think of him as a sensitive child whereas his father felt he needed to be toughened up.

SunsetBoulevard3 · 26/01/2020 18:53

I really can’t stand this attitude that if someone doesn’t have a raft of A Levels and a degree they are ‘thick’. What a load of nonsense.
It’s such a narrow blinkered way to look at the world. People have lots of different talents and abilities. Passing exams is just one measure of how bright someone is.
How dismissive and depressing.

WendyMoiraAngelaDarling · 26/01/2020 18:54

I know Windsor and the Kensington High Street area very well, love a couple of km from KHS. Windsor lovely but jam packed full of tourists constantly. No anonymous nipping out for a browse round the shops there. Kensington High Street is steps away from the palace and while busy, people are just going about their business. I believe the royals often pop out for a shop or drink and are just left to get on with it mostly. Not that they ever really lived at Frogmore Cottage though.
